Chapter 715 For The Sake Of A 'Debt'

Mu Anxiao didn't look at him, instead she peeked at the figures of them leaving and then breathed a sigh of relief, tilting her head up to look at Piao and saying, "I know you want to kill them. If it were me, I'd also want to strike them down immediately."

However, Piao didn't speak, just quietly stared at Mu Anxiao's face in the moonlight, blinking her eyes.

Seeing that Piao's expression was off, Mu Anxiao quickly let go of her hand and said, "Sorry, I know my appearance was a bit sudden."

"Why are you here?" Piao suddenly asked.

Mu Anxiao's expression stiffened, and she laughed, "Yes, why am I here?"

"Are you following me?" Piao asked.

Mu Anxiao blinked her eyes a couple of times and said, "Well, I just came out for a stroll, and then I ran into you. I didn't expect it," she touched the back of her head, "that we'd be so fated, hehe."

"You're worried about me and Rabbit joining forces, aren't you?" Piao saw through Mu Anxiao's thoughts.

Upon hearing this, Mu Anxiao took her hand away from the back of her head and said, "Yes, I was worried about you and Rabbit joining forces. I kind of regret telling you all that."

"Yes, why did you tell me all that? If you hadn't said those things, I wouldn't have had to pretend to be magnanimous in front of Rabbit like an idiot. It's all your fault," Piao said, looking down.

Mu Anxiao said unnaturally, "I didn't expect her to be like that either."

"I understand a principle now," Piao said.

"What principle?" Mu Anxiao had a bad premonition.

"I shouldn't trust any demons, any people. I only trust myself," Piao said faintly.

Mu Anxiao nodded, looking at Piao's indifferent expression, "You're right. I sometimes think that way too."

Seeing Mu Anxiao's bitter expression, Piao asked, "When so many people were saying bad things about you behind your back, how did it feel?"

"You know people were saying bad things about me?" Mu Anxiao pointed to herself.

"I told you, I removed your memories. Although I forgot what you looked like, I still remember your affairs clearly. Tell me," Piao said, "how did you feel?"

"Feel," Mu Anxiao couldn't help but recall the past, giving a bitter smile. "To be honest, at first, like you, I wanted to kill those guys who spoke ill of me. But then I thought, it's not worth it."

"Not worth it?" Piao questioned.

Mu Anxiao nodded, "Mm, their mouths are on their faces. They say what they want to say, and I'll just treat it as..." She trailed off and shook her head, "No, I still heard it, and my heart still felt heavy."

"Then you might as well have killed them," Piao said.

Hearing this, Mu Anxiao quickly looked up and said, "No, killing people is wrong. No matter how unpleasant their words were, I can't have such thoughts."

"Don't tell me you're going to look for reasons within yourself?" Piao asked.

"Why should I look for reasons within myself? I didn't do anything wrong," Mu Anxiao frowned.

"Then how did you process it?" Piao asked again.

Mu Anxiao thought for a moment and said, "I still haven't figured out a solution to this. However, I've found that as soon as I start a mission, it's as if none of these things have anything to do with me. So, I've concluded," she said, "that being busy makes me forget all my troubles, including those words, which will also completely disappear from my mind."

"Did they really disappear?" Piao didn't believe it.

Mu Anxiao frowned, "Sometimes, when I think about it, there's still a slight impression, but it doesn't feel as intense. It just seems laughable."

"Laughable?" Piao chuckled. "I think you're quite laughable."

"Really, think about it. You clearly didn't do it, but those people can fabricate a whole story about you doing it. Don't you think that's laughable?" Mu Anxiao's smile became increasingly unnatural.

Piao looked at the expression on Mu Anxiao's face, turned her head, and smiled, "Alright, I won't rub salt in your wound." Saying this, she reached out and patted Mu Anxiao's head.

Not far away, Feng Qishi watched Mu Anxiao's retreating figure, then looked at Piao's actions. He thought, So, it's my fault that Mu Shazi was spoken about like that. If I had been more rational back then, perhaps she wouldn't be like this. It seems I must compensate her well in this life. With that thought, he sighed and quietly walked away.

Mu Anxiao lowered her head and said, "I hate it the most when people pat my head."

"What if I pat it?" Piao said, deliberately patting it a couple more times.

Mu Anxiao pouted her mouth and said, "Fine. I see you're in a bad mood, so I'll offer my head for you to pat."

Hearing this, Piao stopped her actions and asked, "If Shen Yan wasn't around, would you have paid any attention to me?"

"Shen Yan?" Mu Anxiao repeated the name, tilting her head up to ask, "Why did you suddenly mention him?"

"I saw all your efforts for him. However, you pretended to be indifferent in front of him. You looked so..." Piao said, "truly pathetic."

"Pathetic," Mu Anxiao said, smiling. "Whether it's pathetic or anything else, that's all in the past. I don't care anymore."

"If you had a chance, would you like me?" Piao suddenly asked.

Mu Anxiao's body stiffened, and her eyes darted away unnaturally. "I don't even know what liking is. Do you think I would like you? Uh, I can't answer this question."

"Do you like Shen Yan?" Piao asked with a hint of jealousy.

"My relationship with him cannot be described as liking. To be honest," Mu Anxiao took a deep breath, "my meticulous care for him was purely because I owed him."

"Then why do you still... for Feng Qishi now..."

Piao's words were cut short as Mu Anxiao deliberately turned cold. "Feng Qishi's life was hard-won, so you are not allowed to have any thoughts about his life. Otherwise, I'll turn hostile towards you."

Piao froze for a moment, then nodded, "I understand."

Mu Anxiao hadn't thought much about it, but the moment Piao responded calmly, she suddenly remembered his volatile temper. So, she asked cautiously, "Aren't you angry?"

"Not angry," Piao said, supporting Mu Anxiao's shoulders. "One last question, will you save me?"

"Why are you suddenly asking such a depressing question?" Mu Anxiao gave a bitter smile.

"Will you?" Piao firmly uttered the two words.

Mu Anxiao smiled, "Of course, I will. But the prerequisite is that you promise not to kill me."

"I won't kill you," Piao smiled.

Mu Anxiao gave a silly laugh or two and said, "If I asked you to join me in saving the town, would you be willing?"

"I'm a demon, saving people," Piao rolled her eyes. "That's probably not my style."

Mu Anxiao pretended to think for a moment and said, "That's what they all say about you. So," she paused, then continued, "if you ask me, the biggest way to fight back against them is to do the opposite of what they expect."
