Chapter 127: You Would Protect Her Than Me?

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: You Would Protect Her Than Me?

Victoria struggled to control her pounding heart, which was being fed antibiotics in a different way. She initially thought only male leads in dramas could do this, but the main characters in her life could use the same method. Her cheeks flushed, and it was difficult to look at her husband’s charmingly handsome face. Although she actually really liked him treating her this way, not telling him anything made her feel incredibly awkward now.

"Tory, does the medicine taste better?" Matthias asked in a sexy tone.

Victoria nodded and still frowned. "Now that tastes sweet."

Hearing his wife’s answer only made Matthias even more arrogant. "I knew you’d like it. I told you I could turn bitter medicine into sweet medicine. That’s why you’re so eager to take the antibiotics the doctor prescribed."

"Matthias, since when did you get so creative with things like this?" Victoria stroked her husband’s head with her left hand. "Thank you for making me hate medicine less."

"So, you will like the medicine more?"

Victoria shook her head quickly. "I’d like it if you fed me a little differently than other people do." She folded her arms for a moment. "So, you learned all these unique things from the romance dramas I’ve watched?"

"Even though I’ve always been called a stiff man, I’m the most reliable when it comes to things like this." Matthias winked his right eye.

"Seeing you so adorable like this, I don’t want to hate you even more."

In reality, Matthias is more likely the one still anxious. He’s still betting his mother that he wants to prove Victoria is more worthy of his wife than Amber. Now that his wife is this seriously injured, if his mother finds out, his plans will be ruined. How can he succeed?

"By the way, you’re not hiding anything from me, are you?" Victoria grinned at her husband.

"What am I hiding?" Matthias replied with an innocent look.

"I’m sure you’ve been secretly investigating my accident. But you’ve been hiding it from me so you don’t worry about me, right?"

"Tory, I didn’t mean to hide it from you." A shaky breath escaped his lips. "But I really don’t want you to worry more about this. Especially since you’re still recovering, I don’t want you to become even more stressed."

"I wouldn’t be stressed if you told me everything. I’d be more stressed if you kept things from me. We’re married, and I don’t like us keeping secrets all the time!"

Matthias clasped his wife’s hands with a sad look. "I’m sorry. I’ve been investigating this incident secretly. But I haven’t been able to find the perpetrator. It’s been very difficult because the construction site doesn’t have CCTV cameras."

"Then what about the construction workers?"

"They didn’t say anything suspicious that day. In fact, they told me they hadn’t done anything to the metal rack. None of the hooks had come loose."

Victoria frowned. "There’s no way I accidentally bumped into the shelf and it fell on me."

"Besides, your strength is weaker than theirs because you’re a woman. I’m still convinced someone deliberately loosened the hooks on that metal shelf."

"Matthias, this problem won’t be resolved if the person in question refuses to admit their guilt. Because when I got there, no one was there." She sighed resignedly. "I don’t mean to accuse anyone, but I suspect Amber is the culprit."

Matthias folded his arms. "Why do you accuse her of being the main culprit who wanted to kill you?"

"To be honest, I had a fight with her before the shelf fell on me. Although we didn’t fight over that area, I suspect she had ulterior motives."

"So, that’s why you guys continued your fight at the hospital?"

Victoria nodded. "Because I’m sure she’s the culprit. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t have bothered to visit me and brought me flowers."

Matthias immediately knelt before her, his eyes filled with worry. "Tory, I don’t mean to defend him. But you can’t accuse her without proof."

Victoria was actually a little offended by her husband’s words. Matthias should have been able to see for himself who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. If Amber had been such a nuisance in his eyes all this time, why couldn’t he have just assumed that she was the culprit?

"Matty, until now you still defend her over me?"

"Tory, I’m not defending her. But my principle is that I can’t just accuse anyone without proof."

"Then, should I tell you? What did I fight with her about?"

"What else are you two fighting about? I’ve noticed you haven’t been getting along well lately."

"It’s all because of a video advertisement that spread online. She was furious about it and thought I was just a slut who liked to tease you just to steal your money."

Matthias’s gaze widened. "What?"

"I should have recorded our conversation so you would believe me."

"I actually trusted you." For a moment Matthias massaged his temples. "But I didn’t expect Amber to go that far."

"That’s why I don’t like hearing you defend her. You need to know the facts first!"

Matthias hugged his wife tightly. "You should have told me this from the start. I’m sorry, Tory."

"Do you trust me more than her now?"

"I’ve always trusted you more because I know you’re very sincere, compared to her cunning personality."

Hearing her husband mock her best friend for the first time, Victoria burst out laughing. "You should have said it to her face."

"So it can be concluded that from now on I have to focus on her."

"I can only advise you to remain wary of him. We never know what the future holds."

Time flies. Three weeks have passed, and Victoria is finally allowed to remove the cast on her right hand. Now it’s time to focus on her father’s company anniversary, the day after tomorrow.

However, a new problem arose. Suddenly, the hospital where her father was being treated contacted her, making her terrified.
