Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Bad Condition
Victoria was shocked to hear the devastating news from the hospital. Her father’s worsening condition nearly caused him to faint. Although she had always hated him for his increasingly indifferent behavior in the moments before his cancer, she still loved him deeply. Before he married her current stepmother, he had doted on her and treated her like a fairytale princess.
Luckily, her hand had recovered, allowing her to do whatever she wanted, as long as she didn’t overdo it. Now she had to visit the hospital to check on her father. But now that she thought about it, would her husband allow her to do so? After all, her husband had hated her father for so long, ignoring the plight of a dying old man. It was perfectly natural for Matthias to harbor a deep resentment for causing the T&H Group significant losses because of his family. However, that didn’t mean abandoning him as if he were thrown into the ocean.
Her husband happened to be at home, getting ready to leave for work. Should she tell him openly that her father was truly dying? Would he forbid her from visiting the hospital?
Victoria stood in the doorway with her head bowed. "Matthias, I have something important to tell you."
Matthias turned to look at his beloved wife. "What do you want to talk about?"
"Can I go to the hospital?"
"Are you sick again?" Matthias glanced at the calendar on his phone for a moment. "And today isn’t the day for your checkup with the gynecologist."
"It’s not really about those two things. But, something must have made you angry."
If his wife spoke like that, he could already guess which hospital she was going to visit and whom. His expression returned to a blank expression, which had initially been a cheerful smile. He had hated his father-in-law for years. He had never liked his father-in-law, who had always extorted money from him. Although his wife had always said he was a good father, Matthias didn’t believe it. Because what he had seen firsthand was that his father-in-law had never treated him well.
"Do you want to visit your father?" Matthias asked in a cold tone.
"If you don’t let me do it, I won’t do it."
Matthias laughed in annoyance as he looked away. "Am I a cruel man in your eyes?"
"No. I know you were cruel to my father because my father always made things difficult for you."
"But, if your father is dying, it is impossible for me to stop you."
A wide smile immediately spread across her beautiful face. "Really? You won’t stop me from visiting him?"
Matthias nodded. "Because he is your father. Although in my eyes he is a very cruel man, he is still a good father to you."
"Matthias..."
"Actually, I feel guilty because I neglected him when your father was dying. Hearing this bad news, I think I should visit him too."
"Really? You won’t kill him when you visit him, will you?"
Matthias rolled his eyes. "Tory, even though I hate him so much, that doesn’t mean I killed him. He’s my father-in-law. In fact, I still hope he gets better so he can attend our wedding." Matthias scratched his head. "I guess I should have liked him from the start so he wouldn’t hate me so much."
Victoria still couldn’t believe her husband’s sweet words. Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks, her arms tightly embracing him. "Thank you for not hating my father, Matthias."
"Now I have to take you to the hospital. You have to be the first person to visit him today."

Upon arriving at the hospital, Matthias led his beloved wife to a VVIP ward, where Victoria’s father had been treated for years. It had been a long time since they had visited an elderly man who had been lying in the hospital for a long time. After so long without visiting, Victoria was still not used to this awkward atmosphere. Her eyes grew increasingly teary as she watched the nurses and doctors rush out of the room. Moreover, the head doctor had told her father’s true condition that he had not much time left. This made Victoria desperate to the point of almost fainting, fortunately she was still with her beloved husband.
"Victoria..."
Victoria burst into tears as she stared at her father, who was still unconscious. "I wish my father would at least open his eyes. After years of lying in the hospital, he never opened them once."
"Victoria... I’m sure your father will recover." Matthias looked at his father in law for a moment with pity. "We can only pray. The doctor said earlier that his condition is very difficult to recover from."
"Dad... I haven’t even had a chance to tell him much. From when I started dating you until now."
"But, will your father be happy to hear this? Hasn’t he been annoyed with me all this time?"
"My father wouldn’t be upset with you if he knew you were my life partner. He certainly wouldn’t think of you as the one who ruined his life."
Matthias spontaneously pulled the blanket up to his father in law’s neck. "After your father wakes up, I’ll apologize to him too. I also have something important to tell him."
"What do you want to say? Are you going to blackmail him again?"
"No. I will definitely say something that will make your father happy."
Victoria smiled warmly at her husband. She took his hand and swung it enthusiastically. "My father will feel like he’s in a dreamland. He’s still not used to casual conversations with you."
"Somehow, seeing him lying in the hospital for so many years made me breathless. I wondered if I’d been too cruel to him."
"Don’t worry. My father isn’t that kind of man. Hearing you say that must make him even more eager to wake up from the nightmare that’s haunted him for years."
Suddenly, in the middle of their conversation, the father’s right hand suddenly showed a movement that made their eyes widen.
