Chapter 422: What Matters Most

Chapter 422: What Matters Most

If it weren’t for the curse, Wen Nuan would have never tried to figure out if her mother was her biological parent. The truth didn’t matter to her; she believed that her mom was her mom, no matter what.

But because of the curse, she had to uncover the truth.

For Wen Nuan, this was a very painful thing.

Ye Feimo was right there, his scent lingering around her, but he would never know what she was thinking, worrying about, or caring about. He thought the problem in their marriage was because of the miscarriage.

Should she tell him?

Wen Nuan had thought about telling Ye Feimo everything. She had thought about just letting it all go and staying with him, even if they only had a few days together because of the curse. As long as they were happy, a short life wouldn’t matter.

They could pretend that she only had a few years to live and just enjoy their time together.

Just like if she had cancer, Ye Feimo would definitely choose to stay with her until the very end.

But she couldn’t be that selfish. If Ye Feimo could live a good life without her, then she would let him. Knowing that he was okay was more important than anything else.

Some things could be faced together, but some things could be faced alone.

There was no need to tell him.

Even if it meant being misunderstood, feeling like she was being pierced by a thousand arrows, and being alone, she would stick with her decision.

So, she was sorry.

For the time they were in Athens, she would selfishly put aside all her worries and just spend a happy time with him. That way, when he looked back on it, he would have one more happy memory, and that would be enough.

With that thought, Wen Nuan hugged Ye Feimo tightly.

The next day, when Wen Nuan woke up, Ye Feimo was no longer in bed. She got up, washed up, and went downstairs. Ye Feimo was in the living room, reading the newspaper and having breakfast. When he saw her, the butler brought her a hot breakfast. Wen Nuan thanked him but didn’t see her mother. Wen Nuan asked, "Where’s Mom? Is she still in bed?"

Ye Feimo said, "Mom went out."

Wen Nuan’s heart sank. She had a bad feeling and quickly asked, "Did Mom say where she was going?"

"No."

Wen Nuan was annoyed. "Why didn’t you wake me up? I didn’t even know Mom was gone."

Ye Feimo looked at Wen Nuan, confused. He thought she was overreacting. It wasn’t her mother’s first time in Athens; she knew the place better than they did. There was nothing wrong with her going out for a while. Why was Wen Nuan reacting like this?

Wen Nuan also felt that her reaction was a little too strong. Ye Feimo said, "When I came downstairs, the butler told me that Mom had gone out. She didn’t take a car and said she would be back tomorrow. She said she was going to see a friend and that we shouldn’t worry."

Wen Nuan was secretly annoyed with herself for not knowing when her mother had left. The thought of her mother leaving while she was asleep made her panic. She had come here to solve a mystery, but now what was she going to do?

Wen Nuan had an idea. She asked Ye Feimo, "You have so many connections. Can you find out where Mom went?"

Ye Feimo put down the newspaper and looked at Wen Nuan deeply. He asked, "Why are you so eager to know where Mom went? If you want to travel with her, you can wait for her to come back. She told the butler she’d be back tomorrow. You can travel together then."

"It’s not about that," Wen Nuan said anxiously. "Can you or can you not find out where Mom went?"

Ye Feimo said calmly, "I can’t."

Wen Nuan’s heart sank. If Ye Feimo couldn’t find out where her mother was, how could she? Athens was so big. Had she come all this way for nothing?

Did her mother sense something and leave while she was asleep?

Her mother had been hesitant about coming on this trip. Now that Ye Feimo was here to watch over her, her mother was more than happy to leave and hand her over to him.

Otherwise, her mother wouldn’t have left without telling her.

In a flash, many thoughts crossed Wen Nuan’s mind. If only she had stayed in the same room as her mother yesterday. The thought of her mother hiding from her made Wen Nuan uncomfortable. She couldn’t help but glare at Ye Feimo.

Ye Feimo looked very innocent. How had he offended her this time?

"The weather is nice. Do you want to go for a walk?" Ye Feimo suggested. Wen Nuan looked sullen. The one thing she wanted to do had fallen through, so she wasn’t in the mood to travel. Ye Feimo thought she was worried about her mother and said, "Don’t worry. Mom will be fine."

After an unhappy breakfast, Ye Feimo saw that she really wasn’t in the mood, so he said, "If you really want to know where Mom went, I can send someone to find out."

Wen Nuan’s eyes lit up, and her face was filled with hope. "Can you really find out where she went?"

"If Mom bought a ticket, I should be able to find out, but it will take some time," Ye Feimo said. He saw how hopeful Wen Nuan was and didn’t want to disappoint her. It would be much harder to find someone in Athens than in A City or North America. It would take at least half a day to get any information.

"I want to know where Mom went. It doesn’t matter when, as long as we can find her." Wen Nuan said. As long as she could find her, she would know where her mother went. "Feimo, I need to know where Mom went and who she met. Please help me."

Even though Wen Nuan tried not to seem too anxious, Ye Feimo noticed that something was off. Wen Nuan would never act like this. It was as if she was trying to follow her mother. Was she hiding something from him?

Wen Nuan knew that Ye Feimo was observant and that she was acting strangely. She explained, "Mom comes to Athens every year to see someone. She says it’s a friend, but I know all of Mom’s friends. I don’t know this one, so I want to know what friend she’s meeting."

Ye Feimo looked at Wen Nuan. She lowered her head and ate her breakfast, hiding the worry in her eyes. Ye Feimo asked, "Didn’t you come with Mom to get some fresh air?"

"Getting fresh air is one thing. This is another. I’ve been wondering about this for years, and I want to know the truth," Wen Nuan said calmly. Ye Feimo nodded, got up, and made a phone call. He had his people look into her mother’s travel route.

Since it was something Wen Nuan wanted, he would do his best to fulfill her request, even if it didn’t seem right.
