Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Daniel, You Deserve It!
Chantelle gave him a displeased look. She bent her knees and kicked him in the stomach, and her expression turned cold. "Get lost!"
Railer, who was guarding the door, was startled by Chantelle’s voice. When he saw Russell and Philip about to enter with the medicine, he quickly stopped them and signaled for them to stay silent.
Philip glanced inside and saw Daniel lying on the ground, looking embarrassed. Chantelle didn’t even glance at him. She sat on the bedside, playing with her phone.
Philip laughed and said, "Daniel, you deserve it!"
Then Philip strode into the room. Russell and Alexander exchanged a look and followed behind.
"Daniel, what are you doing? Is the floor comfortable?" Philip asked with a gloating smile.
Daniel stretched out his leg and swept Philip off his feet, making him fall to the ground. Luckily, the room was clean, or dust would have flown everywhere.
Russell winced at the sound of Philip’s groan. After giving him a sympathetic look, Russell turned to Chantelle. "How do you feel?"
"I don’t have much strength. I feel a little dizzy and nauseous," Chantelle said, ignoring Daniel’s worried eyes.
"You should sleep first. Take this medicine when you wake up." Russell placed a bottle of medicine on the bedside table.
Chantelle nodded, then glanced at Railer, who stood at the door looking left out. She waved him over and asked when he came closer, "Why are you unhappy?"
Railer looked up at her, then turned his eyes toward Daniel without saying anything. But Chantelle understood what he meant.
She sighed helplessly in her heart and swiftly changed the topic. "Where’s Kane?"
"Kane lost to Trenton’s programmer last time. I don’t know how he got in touch with him again. They’re competing now," Daniel quickly answered before Railer could say something.
When Chantelle heard that, she stopped talking. The room fell into an awkward silence.
"Chantie, Daniel, you both need to rest before taking the medicine, but you don’t have to stay here all day. Why don’t you go for a walk tomorrow?" Philip suggested.
Chantelle looked at him like he was an idiot. In Carcosa, no one would go out walking in this season. She wondered if he had lost his mind.
Philip seemed to realize his mistake. He laughed awkwardly and said, "Or you could go to Daniel’s resort. It’s on a small island. It’s beautiful."
Seeing Philip keep blinking at him, Russell could only try to persuade Daniel and Chantelle. "You’re both in good health now and can do some proper exercise. Going out to relax will also help your recovery."
"Mommy, let’s go to the resort!" Railer happily grabbed Chantelle’s hand and begged her.
Chantelle’s heart softened at Railer’s hopeful eyes, but she felt awkward when she glanced at Daniel.
"Is it safe?" Chantelle asked, giving herself an excuse.
"Trenton has already left, and I’ve nearly finished handling things here. The island is well hidden. I’ll send more people to guard the area. There won’t be any safety problems," Daniel promised quickly.
He badly needed a chance to clear things with Chantelle. If the stalemate lasted until Xander recovered, it would be even more troublesome.
When Chantelle saw everyone in the room looking at her with bright, expectant eyes except Alexander, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse. She had no choice but to agree.
Daniel said happily, "Chantelle, get some good rest! I’ll prepare everything so we can leave early tomorrow morning."
Philip had never seen Daniel speak in such a cheerful tone, almost like a child. He looked at Daniel with a playful expression.
Daniel is good at changing faces. He treats Chantie so gently, but he’s always cold to me. I was the one who gave him this idea, yet he didn’t even thank me. Hmph!
"Mommy, I’ll stay with you." Railer sat on Chantelle’s bed and refused to leave.
Chantelle nodded with a smile. She told him to take off his shoes before getting on the bed. Then they started talking. After the serious events of the past two days, she hadn’t had the chance to check on the children’s mental health, especially Railer’s. It would be awful if he were left with painful memories.
When Daniel saw them laughing and talking happily, he quietly closed the door.
"Daniel, don’t forget to thank me. I’ve helped you a lot this time. You have to—"
"I’ll cover all the research funding for next year." Daniel gave Philip a glance. He really didn’t want to admit that this shameless man was his best friend.
Philip cheered happily. If Daniel hadn’t been giving off that cold aura, Philip would have wanted to hug him and kiss him.
Daniel would cover all the funds, which meant Philip could run any experiment without worrying about the cost of materials. Even if the lab exploded, he wouldn’t feel bad.
As long as I keep pleasing Chantie, Daniel will guarantee my future funds!
Chantelle slept through the night. When she woke up, Railer was sitting obediently beside her, reading a book. Her heart ached when she saw how serious he looked.
"Mommy, are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat," Railer said as he got out of bed.
After their talk, Chantelle knew Railer hadn’t been left with any trauma from the events of the past two days. What he worried about was her relationship with Daniel falling apart.
She promised Railer that no matter what happened between her and Daniel, she would never leave him. She would always love him and take care of him. At the same time, she explained that everyone was independent and had the right to choose their marriage partner and the kind of life they wanted.
It was wrong for Daniel to use his feelings to force her into a life she didn’t want.
Railer seemed to understand, but he still hoped Daniel and Chantelle could reconcile like they had in Easthan. He remembered how good it felt then, when the whole family was happy.
"Ms. Chantelle, someone hit Steph!" Russell suddenly burst through the door, saying in panic.
Chantelle was startled and quickly got out of bed. "Are her injuries serious? Where is she hurt?"
"She got two slaps on the face." Russell pressed his lips together. He had watched Stephanie grow up and always cherished her. Now that someone had slapped her for no reason, he barely contained his anger, too.
"The doctor already checked her. It’s nothing serious, just some pain." Seeing Chantelle’s face darken, Russell quickly added, afraid she might lose control too.
He felt sorry for Stephanie, but when he saw the fury in Daniel and Chantelle’s eyes, he worried even more about what they might do to Caitlin.
If that happened, they would face legal punishment, and the children would be burdened by the hatred.
"Who hit Steph?" Chantelle was furious, especially after hearing Railer explain how Trenton had besieged them that day.
