Chapter 1232: Chapter 1232: Extra Story of the Eel 69

“Li Li is fine… I stayed with him… No, that’s not right, I had dinner with him. Now… I’m about to head home. Have you… gone to bed yet?”

She drafted those few simple sentences over and over again, and finally added a smiley emoji before sending it out.

Actually, she didn’t need to explain it so clearly.

If she wanted to maintain Lu Yuwen’s good opinion of her, she didn’t even need to tell him that she had dinner with Li Li.

But Su Man wasn’t the type to overthink like that; she always felt that honesty mattered more. Even hiding just one sentence would make her feel as if she had done something wrong.

Lu Yuwen replied to her quickly, just a few simple words:

[Lu: It’s good nothing’s wrong. That way you don’t have to worry too much. Drive safe on your way home.]

Looking at his response, Su Man’s mood gradually improved, but at the same time… it wasn’t particularly great either.

As she sat there in a daze, another message from Lu Yuwen popped up:

[Lu: Let me know when you’re home, and I’ll give you a call.]

Su Man stared at the message for a while, the corners of her mouth curling up ever so slightly. She felt happy.

[Manmanmanman: Okay.]

Su Man drove home and parked her car in the garage. Before even stepping inside, she couldn’t wait to call Lu Yuwen.

There was a trace of amusement in Lu Yuwen’s voice: “You got home so fast? Don’t tell me you were speeding?”

“Are you questioning a traffic officer’s professionalism?” Su Man laughed. “The roads are clear at night, no traffic, and I didn’t run into many red lights.”

Lu Yuwen remarked, “Your voice sounds much calmer now compared to the last call.”

Su Man took out her keys to open the door and smiled sheepishly at his words. “I was a bit flustered earlier. Hearing him say he was bleeding kind of… threw me off.”

“It’s okay, I understand,” Lu Yuwen said gently. “After all, adults fighting isn’t like kids squabbling. When adults fight, injuries can get serious—broken bones, blood—it’s normal for you to worry. The important thing is that everything’s fine now. Just rest well now that you’re home.”

Su Man’s lips curved into a smile. Even though he couldn’t see her through the phone, she unconsciously nodded her head. “Mm, I just got home. I’ll clean up a bit and then go to bed. What about you?”

Hearing some movement, Su Man’s mother stepped out of her room and caught sight of her daughter’s sweet smile. She had been about to ask why Su Man came home so late but, seeing her expression, held back and quietly retreated to her room.

Su Man’s mom thought to herself: She must’ve gone out with Xiaolu again.

Su Man returned to her room, gently closed the door, and leaned her ear against the phone while listening to Lu Yuwen’s warm and soft voice:

“No rush, I’ll wait for you to fall asleep before I do. Anyway, I don’t have to wake up early tomorrow.”

“Ah, so jealous,” she said with a laugh. “I wish I could wake up naturally every day too. I haven’t been sleeping well lately. It’s not that I don’t get enough hours, but I’ve been dreaming a lot—dreams about rabbits, palaces… They leave me feeling groggy.”

“You could try a massage. There’s a good place near my hotel. I can take you there in the evening to give it a try,” Lu Yuwen suggested. “It helps with sleep.”

Su Man was just about to agree when she suddenly remembered Li Li’s situation, and her mood sank.

“I can’t…” she mumbled gloomily.

She didn’t specify the reason, but Lu Yuwen quickly seemed to understand and tentatively asked, “Are you planning to spend some time with Li Li tomorrow?”

“Mm…” Su Man sighed. “He sprained his leg and he’s staying alone in his apartment. It’s inconvenient for him to do anything, and he looks so listless. I thought I should go check on him.”

“He’s not going back to his parents’ house?” Lu Yuwen asked.

Su Man then explained all the details about how Li Li got injured in a fight and why he couldn’t go home.

After listening, Lu Yuwen fell silent for a moment.
