Chapter 1231: Chapter 1231: Extra Story of the Eel 68

Su Man ate takeout with Li Li, cleaned up the food containers, then helped him adjust the hot water, supported him to the bathroom to wash up, tidied up his bed and pillows, boiled water, and even made him a cup of coffee.

She rarely did housework, and after all this, she was utterly exhausted.

Seeing Li Li lie down on the bed contentedly to rest, she wanted to suggest hiring a nursemaid to take care of him. But as she began to speak, she remembered how he said he would stay here only for two or three days.

Two or three days… it seemed unnecessary to hire someone.

Su Man pursed her lips and said to Li Li, “I’m going now.”

Li Li asked, “Will you come tomorrow?”

Su Man’s expression turned a bit hesitant. “I’m not sure if I’ll have to work overtime tomorrow…”

“If you don’t have overtime, come by.” Li Li sighed. “It’s too boring for me to be alone here. This place doesn’t even have a computer. The only way to pass time is watching TV. If you’re here, I’ll have someone to talk to.”

Su Man said, “Then call Wu Xinghai.”

Li Li’s tone was utterly disdainful. “He’ll avoid me as much as possible now. It’d be strange if I could even find him. Besides, didn’t I already promise you that I won’t associate with him anymore?”

Su Man sneered faintly.

Li Li caught the look in her eyes and spoke slowly, “We grew up together. It’s been so many years of friendship, and you won’t even help me with this? Do you want to leave me alone in this shabby house?”

As soon as he mentioned this, Su Man couldn’t refuse. She said helplessly, “Fine, I’ll help you. I’ll come look after you tomorrow.”

Only then did Li Li reveal a satisfied smile.

Su Man simply sighed, got up, walked to the door, and stopped. Once more, she reminded him, “If your leg still feels uncomfortable tomorrow, you must go to the hospital. Don’t delay, okay?”

“Got it.” Li Li cheerfully waved at her. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing~”

Su Man nodded, then turned and left.

Li Li heard the sound of the door opening outside, and then the soft click of the lock fastening shut.

He knew that Su Man had indeed left.

Li Li’s lips curled into a grin as he raised his hand to grab his phone from the bedside table and called Wu Xinghai.

When the call connected, his tone brimmed with smugness: “It’s done! That special-effects makeup artist you introduced to me is good. The bruises on my face look so realistic. The only problem is they aren’t waterproof. When I took a shower just now, they almost washed off.”

Wu Xinghai’s voice sounded tense on the phone: “Su Man didn’t figure it out, right?”

“She didn’t.” Li Li chuckled, “The lights were dim inside, and I deliberately lay sideways. She couldn’t see clearly.”

Wu Xinghai sighed, “I was really worried she’d notice. I’m a grown man now. If I get beaten up by a woman again, how am I supposed to save face out there?”

Li Li laughed heartily, his laughter full of delight. “Relax! She won’t find out! She’s always been pretty clueless. Stop overthinking it. Tomorrow, make sure to bring the makeup artist over again. The bruises on my face need to fade day by day. We can’t have her catching on!”

“Alright, alright, I’ll take care of it,” Wu Xinghai replied.

Li Li hung up, absolutely overjoyed, feeling victorious, even his big toe couldn’t help but wiggle. Just thinking about how Lu Yuwen couldn’t manage to meet up with Su Man tonight made him unbelievably happy.

Su Man got into her car, gripped the steering wheel, and let out a long, quiet sigh…

She had rushed over in a panic, especially after hearing on the phone that there was bleeding. She had been truly flustered.

But now, on her way back, she felt inexplicably lost and empty. It was hard to describe the feeling—like her heart was wrapped in a thin layer of plastic film, stifling and heavy…

Maybe it was because she had confirmed that Li Li was no longer in any real danger, and there was no need for her to stay anxious.

The issue now before her was a new one: How would she explain this to Lu Yuwen?

It was already close to 11 o’clock. Was he still waiting for her phone call?

Or had he already gone to sleep?

Perhaps… she’d just send him a message instead. If he was asleep, she wouldn’t have to wake him.

Su Man took out her phone and began to carefully compose a message to send.
