Chapter 387: Resignation to Fate

Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Resignation to Fate

Because of the shadowy figure she saw the previous night, Evelyn Clayton didn’t sleep well at the Ford Family residence all night.

In the morning, someone knocked on the door. It was a Ford family servant, softly inviting Evelyn Clayton to the main building for breakfast.

After a simple wash, Evelyn left together with Yara Reagan.

On the way, as usual, she flipped through her phone to check emails. Suddenly, breaking news made Evelyn stop in her tracks.

"What’s wrong?" Yara asked in confusion, turning to look at her.

With slightly trembling fingertips and a face turning pale, Evelyn pointed it out, causing Yara to notice her unease and come over to look at the phone screen.

The financial news headline was strikingly apparent.

[Atlas Group President, the eldest son of The Grant Group, James Grant, has announced his exit from the family enterprise as of today. The Atlas Group board has already acknowledged the news.]

Yara looked at it and blurted out a curse, "Has James lost his mind?"

Evelyn’s hand tightened slightly.

After a long pause, she raised her eyes, a shadow passing through her pupils.

"Let’s go ahead; don’t keep them waiting."

Inside the main building, Violet Ford and Franklin Ford were already in the dining room.

Unlike usual, the siblings were dressed very casually. Violet warmly greeted the newcomers.

Evelyn’s face relaxed a bit as she and Yara sat down.

"Did you not sleep well, Evelyn? Your eyes look a bit red," Violet looked at Evelyn and inquired.

No matter how well Evelyn concealed it, her smile was still a bit forced, "No, maybe I drank a little too much yesterday."

Hearing this, Franklin poured a glass of honey water and placed it next to Evelyn’s hand, showing his concern naturally: "Why not stay here today and rest for another day?"

"No need, I have to go to the company later," Evelyn smiled.

Yara hurriedly changed the subject, "Uh, where’s Director Monroe?"

Violet did not pay any more attention to Evelyn, lightly scoffing, "She is not worthy of eating here."

Yara awkwardly laughed twice, picked up a tofu skin bun to eat, and then praised eagerly, "This is so good! How did you make it?"

Franklin’s gaze swept over Evelyn’s face and then he smiled, "You’ll have to ask my sister about that one, it’s her specialty."

Violet picked up some coffee and, in response to the compliment, said with a smile, "It’s very simple, I’ll give you the recipe for the filling someday."

The breakfast ended smoothly, with Yara orchestrating the conversation. Only when they arrived at the company did Yara rush into Evelyn’s office.

"The news didn’t trend but it’s been highly discussed," Yara sighed, "It’s only a matter of time before Violet and Director Ford find out, so hiding it from them just now wasn’t necessary."

Evelyn pinched the bridge of her nose, her voice slightly hoarse: "Not telling them is to avoid them asking me more questions..."

Right now, she wanted to confront James Grant and ask what was going on.

But after some thought, she knew that would definitely be inappropriate.

After considering, Evelyn finally found Lynn Yates’ number.

She dialed, and it was answered quickly on the other end.

"Evelyn, why the call at this time?"

Lynn’s tone was very calm, with the sound of employees reporting work in the background.

Evelyn hesitated a moment, "If you’re busy, I’ll call back later."

"Are you calling about James Grant?"

Lynn asked lightly in return.

Evelyn’s throat tightened, and after a moment of resignation, she closed her eyes. "I’m just quite surprised. Everything was fine yesterday, but today..."

"I’m wondering the same," Lynn chuckled lightly, the sarcasm evident, "But if you can’t reach him, neither can I. This morning, I had my assistant try, but he didn’t answer calls or messages, and no one could find him."

After a pause, Lynn continued, "Perhaps you could try asking Keith Donovan or Trevor Hawthorne."
