Gasp a mouthful of milk tea

Chapter 439: Trust Me

Chapter 439: Chapter 439: Trust Me

Diana Dempsey followed closely behind Nadia Archer, chasing her out of the restaurant.

"Nadia!" Diana, realizing she couldn’t catch up, shouted in frustration, "Stop, let’s make things clear!"

Nadia Archer halted and turned back with a complex expression towards Diana.

Gasping for air, Diana walked quickly forward and pulled her into the car.

Once in the car with the door closed, Diana sternly asked, "Alright, now tell me, what exactly are you thinking? We agreed to invite Director Thornton today to make Evelyn Clayton back out, yet you turned around and agreed to renew the contract, what are you trying to do?"

Nadia Archer pressed her lips together, turning her head away from Diana, "I’m not trying to do anything. I just want to take responsibility for my own future."

"Aren’t I taking responsibility for your future?" Diana was fuming, "So now you think me having you sign with Yolanda Thorne is harming you? Can’t you have a bit of conscience? You’ve been lukewarm all these years, earning little money, I wanted you to earn more, and now I’ve become the villain, is that it—"

"Enough, Ms. Diana!"

Nadia Archer, unable to bear it any longer, raised her voice sharply.

She seldom gets so emotional and loud, even Diana was slightly taken aback, staring in disbelief.

Nadia Archer took a deep breath to calm down before speaking, "Ms. Diana, maybe you’re doing it for my good! But this kind of good, I really don’t need! I never said I entered the entertainment industry to make money! I’ve held you back all these years, and I’ve wanted to find an opportunity to say... let’s terminate our contract."

As she spoke, Nadia Archer continued without waiting for Diana to speak, "There are different paths we want to take. You helped me land that movie when I was struggling the most, giving me a bit of fame, and I remember that. Until you find another stable job, I will continue to pay your salary, and when you leave, I’ll pay you severance."

Nadia Archer seemed to have made up her mind long ago, not dragging anything out.

After saying this, under Diana’s dumbfounded gaze, Nadia Archer simply got out of the car.

After walking a few steps, she bumped into Evelyn Clayton and Iris Lockwood coming out of the restaurant.

Diana, who was following closely behind, barely had time to grab Nadia Archer, but upon seeing the two of them, she stopped in her tracks, surprise evident on her face, "Evelyn, Director Clayton, and Iris, you’re leaving too?"

"Yes, what a coincidence, you’re still here," Evelyn Clayton smiled gently, her gaze shifting between the two.

Finally, she looked at Nadia Archer and chuckled, "Miss Archer, are you planning to part ways with Ms. Diana? If convenient, why not come with Director Lockwood and me? We can give you a ride home."

A struggle flashed through Nadia Archer’s eyes.

She looked back at Diana, then slowly grew resolute, nodding, "In that case, I’ll trouble Director Clayton and Director Lockwood."

Evelyn Clayton’s smile deepened. She looked at Diana, who appeared unwilling, smiled politely and distantly, nodded in acknowledgment, and then left gracefully.

In the car, Iris Lockwood volunteered to drive.

Nadia Archer sat in the back with Evelyn Clayton, and Iris Lockwood jokingly said while turning the steering wheel, "I’m your driver today, don’t forget to repay me another day."

Nadia Archer felt somewhat uneasy, but more so absent-minded, she replied politely with a smile and then fell silent, staring blankly at the passing scenery outside the car window.

Evelyn Clayton didn’t disturb her, and once Nadia Archer withdrew her gaze, she asked with a smile, "Nadia, what are you thinking about?"

Nadia Archer opened her mouth, forcing a smile, "Nothing much."

"If you’re worried about rejecting Yolanda Thorne at the dinner today, then let me reassure you," Evelyn Clayton said with a light laugh, "Since you’ve chosen Aegis, just relax and trust Iris and me."
