Terrance stayed in Kalos, one reason being that he hoped to wait for Altaria.
Since returning to the Hoenn region would also involve training, he figured it was better to remain in Kalos. That way, if Altaria completed its training, it could quickly return to his side.
Terrance planned to stay in Kalos for one month.
He aimed to carry out an intense 30-day training plan!
After Altaria left, the lack of strength in Terrance’s team immediately became apparent.
Right now, the only Pokémon in Terrance’s team that had reached the level of a Top Trainer’s main Pokémon was Mismagius.
As for Beautifly, Arcanine, Castform, and Gallade, while they each might have certain high-level stats, those alone weren’t enough to make up for their shortcomings and elevate them to the combat power expected of a Top Trainer’s main Pokémon.
Terrance felt that he had built a solid foundation already, having spent significant time gathering resources and reinforcing the basics, and now—
Resources weren’t lacking, and he had a clear direction for growth.
What he lacked was simply time.He planned to use this one month to carry out an extremely difficult push to elevate the strength of all the Pokémon he currently had to the next level!
As for Mismagius, it needs to better experience its current state and strength, and strive to adapt to this newly acquired power as soon as possible.
According to data analysis by Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex, Mismagius, having fully converted its potential into strength, entered a rapid growth period in all aspects. This phase of efficient strength increase lasted three days before starting to taper off on the fourth day.
During this time, Mismagius’s overall stats improved by about one-tenth. As for energy control, that stat improved even more, though Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex couldn’t quantify the exact level. The only thing they knew was that the illusions Mismagius created were now more stable.
As for Little Vulpix and Larvitar back in the Hoenn region, they wouldn’t lack resources, and their training was still in the foundational stage, so Terrance didn’t need to supervise them personally.
Since it was only a month, Terrance believed it was best to solidify the strength of his main Pokémon first.
Once he had fully stepped into the domain of Top Trainers, it wouldn’t be too late to return and focus on training those two Pokémon that had just entered the growth stage.
Given Terrance’s current training and breeding experience, along with the resources he possessed, training new Pokémon would be much easier than when he had just started out.
Day One.
Terrance, under his identity as an international researcher, applied for temporary use of a Laboratory and a set of physical training equipment similar in function to the “Macho Brace.”
The Macho Brace was an item Terrance had obtained at the Battle Tower, used to train the body. It had accompanied Arcanine throughout its growth and had an extremely outstanding effect. However, as Arcanine’s strength increased and it obtained totem aura, the item was no longer effective in training Arcanine’s now powerful physique.
The new set of equipment Terrance applied for was custom-made for Arcanine’s body. This time, the equipment was no longer a single item but a system made up of equipment for various body parts. The setup could provide high-intensity, focused training to every part of Arcanine’s body. The intensity was far greater than that of the standard “Macho Brace” meant for ordinary Trainers. With this sudden increase in training intensity, Arcanine should show significant improvement in the short term.
The Laboratory was an independent research site located in Lumiose City, near a forest.
After gaining temporary ownership of the Laboratory, Terrance moved in directly with his Pokémon.
As for the Laboratory’s purpose, Terrance had two main goals: first, to research the “nutritional potion” obtained from “Behemoth Bruce”; second, to assist Beautifly in mastering the reverse totem aura technique known as the “Source of Stamina.”
First, Terrance planned to spend a few days carefully planning Arcanine’s giant form breeding method, based on the recipe and pharmacology of the nutritional potions paired by the other party.
On the third day, the new training equipment for Arcanine was delivered.
Arcanine’s deep orange fur, adorned with black stripes resembling the black and orange stripes of a tiger, looked incredibly majestic. When Terrance equipped it with the training equipment that resembled a flame armor, Arcanine let out a loud “howl.”
“Does it work?” Terrance grinned.
If it managed to cause Arcanine some pain, it meant this training equipment packed quite a punch.
This brand-new training equipment came with a steep price. Even with Terrance’s multiple identities such as Gym Leader, and access to various funding sources, purchasing this equipment was still a painful expense.
This was truly high-end tech that ordinary Trainers simply couldn’t afford. Even if someone could afford it, the bodies of most Pokémon wouldn’t be able to withstand the pressure this equipment exerted.
“Hang in there. The initial intensity was set to match your limits during customization…”
Watching Arcanine’s whole body tense up, struggling with gritted teeth under the pressure of the new training equipment, Terrance chuckled.
Arcanine’s fluffy chest fur was tightly secured by the flame-like equipment. The flax-colored fur glowed alongside the equipment. Not only that—its legs, back, and even feet were now fully equipped with this custom-made training equipment. Arcanine, whose body once seemed to merge with the wind, now looked like it was clad in armor.
The initial intensity of these equipment was five times greater than that of the “Macho Brace,” and even for Arcanine, using it put considerable strain on the body.
However, at this level of strength, the equipment could effectively train Arcanine’s current physical strength. If Arcanine could withstand it over a short period, its explosive strength and endurance would become even more formidable. The internal structure of the equipment was highly complex, using a combination of massage and stimulation techniques at its core, so advanced that even Terrance didn’t fully understand the principles behind it.
But by the sixth day, after three days of use, Arcanine had already begun adapting to the new training equipment. Using the Rotom Pokédex, Terrance re-evaluated Arcanine’s all round stats growth.
In the end, Terrance found that this equipment was indeed impressive. Its training effect on Arcanine’s body was several times better than the Macho Brace.
Since Arcanine had just started using this equipment, it was about to enter a burst period of physical improvement. Only after it fully adapted to the new equipment would the rate of progress slow down.
On the sixth day, Terrance also modified his last remaining bottle of nutritional potion, sacrificing two bottles in the process. He had received three bottles from Behemoth Bruce, each with a corresponding diet recipe for Altaria, Arcanine, and Larvitar. Unfortunately, during his research, Terrance wasted two of them.
Although he hadn’t uncovered the exact components of the potion, he had mostly figured out the pharmacological reactions within them.
Based on Arcanine’s condition, Terrance made minor adjustments to Arcanine’s diet recipe. These tweaks didn’t significantly affect the original recipe but made it better suited to his own Arcanine.
As for the recipe of Altaria and Larvitar, Terrance simply tossed them aside as trash. Enlarging their bodies wouldn’t suit those two Pokémon and could even have negative effects. For now, having just Arcanine attempt the giant form breeding method was enough. Larvitar’s massive body and Altaria’s training alongside a Legendary Pokémon made this method unnecessary for them. They had their own paths to follow.
After all, this was just an advanced breeding method obtained from a Trainer at the Champion League level. It wasn’t valuable enough for Terrance to treat as some kind of holy grail.
He only intended to draw upon the strengths of that Trainer’s methods and try raising one suitable Pokémon in his own team.
Also on this day, Arcanine, now equipped with the training equipment Terrance dubbed the “Flame Armor Brace,” began a new meal plan aligned with the giant form training route.
On the eighth day, outside the Laboratory—
Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex watched Beautifly demonstrate a technique, both revealing expressions of surprise and delight.
