Upon hearing this, Song Kai Cheng felt a pang of disappointment but managed a smile, saying, “It’s alright. Your health is more important.”
Only then did Mei Yun realize that not only had she made breakfast for them, but she had also spoken with the children on the phone.
This meant she had woken up at three or four in the morning.
With a look of concern, she quickly said, “Xi Xi, you should rest well. It’s okay if you visit another time.”
After finishing their meal and returning to the room, Shen Xi couldn’t stop yawning as the sleepiness grew more intense.
She had barely lain down on the bed before she drifted into a deep sleep.
An hour later, however, she was jolted awake by a persistent phone ring.
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she picked it up and saw that it was Qin Si Ye.
Sitting bolt upright in bed, Shen Xi’s sleepiness vanished instantly.
Her gaze instinctively flickered towards the door before she immediately answered.
She reprimanded him in a low voice, “What’s wrong with you? Didn’t I tell you not to call me? Why did you call again?”
“I sent you WeChat messages, but you never replied. I had no choice but to call,” came Qin Si Ye’s aggrieved voice from the other end of the line.
Shen Xi immediately hung up and opened her WeChat to check.
As expected, she saw three or four messages from Qin Si Ye.
They stated that the water pipe in her house was broken and asked her to come back and take a look.
Shen Xi frowned and replied below, “Just find the building’s property management and have them send someone to repair it. Isn’t that simple?”
Qin Si Ye immediately replied, “I tried. The property management said they need the owner to be present. Otherwise, it’s inconvenient for them to come.”
Shen Xi thought for a moment and then asked, “Is it leaking a lot?”
“Quite a lot, it’s been running continuously,” Qin Si Ye replied quickly.
Shen Xi rolled off the bed, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door, saying, “Alright. I’m coming over now.”
As soon as she reached the ground floor, she saw Mei Yun sitting on the sofa watching television.
Shen Xi’s steps faltered slightly, and after a moment’s thought, she walked over to Mei Yun with composure.
“Auntie, the property management at my place just called me, saying there’s a leak at home, and I need to go check it out.”
Mei Yun glanced at her sideways and asked with a hint of confusion, “When you returned to the country, didn’t you turn off the water main?”
“I think I did, but I can’t quite remember. I should go and see,” Shen Xi replied thoughtfully.
Mei Yun stood up, a worried expression on her face. “Kai Cheng just left. If only he were here, he could have accompanied you. How about I arrange for a bodyguard to escort you?”
“No need to trouble you, Auntie. My place isn’t far from here. I can just hail a taxi by the roadside, and I’ll be there quickly.” Shen Xi’s heart skipped a beat. She waved her hands repeatedly and then hurried towards the main door.
“Wait a moment.” Mei Yun walked over to a cupboard, took a car key from her bag, and handed it to Shen Xi. “It’s sparsely populated here. It’s not easy to get a taxi. You can drive my car.”
“Okay. Thank you, Auntie.” Shen Xi gratefully accepted the key and quickly walked out the door.
When she rushed to her villa, she saw Qin Si Ye waiting for her outside the main entrance.
Seeing Shen Xi park the car and get out, he walked towards her with a smile, took her hand, and said, “You came quite quickly.”
Giving him a slight glare, Shen Xi pulled her hand away and said irritably, “I was afraid you’d flood the entire house.”
Shamelessly, Qin Si Ye took her hand again and led her inside. He tilted his head and looked at her innocently, saying, “How can you blame me for this? It broke on its own.”
Shen Xi didn’t reply. She walked into the living room and asked, “Where is it broken?”
“The bedroom,” Qin Si Ye replied somewhat guiltily.
The two of them went upstairs together. Shen Xi asked, “Which bedroom?”
“This way.” Qin Si Ye glanced at her and walked directly towards the master bedroom.
Shen Xi stood at the doorway, looking at the neatly made bed, and finally felt at ease.
It seemed this man had already moved out.
When she entered the bathroom, Shen Xi glanced at the toiletries on the vanity and couldn’t help but look back at Qin Si Ye, asking, “Didn’t you move out? Why are your toiletries still here?”
“I haven’t had time to tidy them up yet.” Qin Si Ye’s lips curved into a handsome arc. He walked into the shower area and said, “Don’t worry about that for now. Let’s see how to deal with this leaking pipe.”
Shen Xi walked over and glanced at the pipe that was leaking water downwards. She frowned and said, “That’s not right. Qin Si Ye, you don’t even live in this house anymore, so how did you discover this pipe was leaking?
You must have lied to me, right? You haven’t moved out at all.”
