Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Jenna And Kyle
Ivy led the team to the backside of the base and started fighting the zombies.
Lucas, Arthur, and Maxwell, as well as a few other soldiers, fought alongside Ivy. By the time they finished one of the zombies, they realized that Ivy had dealt with five.
While they were panting and struggling to keep up, Ivy only sweated a little. When they left, Ivy still looked nonchalant and even escorted them back, causing each of them to feel embarrassed.
They had promised not to drag down Ivy, but here they were... needing the help of their instructor to escort them. Ah... what a shame.
"Sorry, instructor." Lucas was the first one to apologize. Before, he thought he was competent, but now... compared to Ivy... he looked like a kid trying to imitate adult.
Others followed along. Ivy calmly shook her head and lectured, "Take this as a lesson. In the future, before utilizing all of your energy, remember to preserve your strength a bit. God knows what kind of danger you might face unexpectedly; always think ahead."
"We understand, Instructor." All of them stated, their voices sounding in unison, giving Ivy the illusion that they were a bunch of kids who needed to be guided properly.
"Good kids." She left a single sentence before making a beeline for the entrance.
If she had looked back, she would have realized that all the soldiers were looking at her with a heartbroken gaze.
Them? Kids? Was that how their instructor saw them?
Ah! So furious!
"Come on, if I had met a person who is far too inferior to me and needed my constant guidance, I would have called them a kid too." Maxwell said bitterly, while others clenched their fists.
..............
"Trust me, it’s a good opportunity, and we should take advantage before the boss notices this loophole!" A woman’s voice, soft and feminine, echoed in the living room.
The woman had shoulder-length blonde hair; her green eyes were shimmering like a jewel in a clear stream of water. This was Jenna.
One of the famous singers before the apocalypse.
Just when she was preparing for her concert, the apocalypse arrived. Luckily for her, her boyfriend, who also was her bodyguard, led her to one of the hotel rooms.
After knowing about the situation, they tried to use her money to buy the supplies. Unfortunately for them, by then the paper currency had lost its value completely.
However, her boyfriend proposed that he and Jenna should rob the shops instead.
At first, she was resistant to the idea. She was Jenna, the famous singer, the pop queen. Fans lined up to meet her. How can she... rob others?
But seeing the worsening situation, she agreed in the end.
With her boyfriend, Kyle’s help, they accumulated 20 kg of rice, a few packs of sanitary pads, as well as a few packets of seasoning, canned food, and other essentials.
Just enough to last 3 months.
They thought the situation would be handled by the government and end by the 3rd month.
Who would have thought that it would just continue to escalate?
After 3 months, when their supplies were on the verge of vanishing completely, they got news about the military base’s establishment and rushed there.
Because of Kyle’s frequent hunts, she was able to live a good life. However, she wasn’t the type of woman who liked to depend on someone.
Hence, she tried to learn fighting... only to realize that she wasn’t cut out for fighting at all.
Though Kyle never complained and even tried his best to provide a good life to her, she always felt guilty for making him tired.
One day, when she had accompanied Kyle on a trip, she got to know about this nameless base and curiosity got better of her, and she ventured in.
Who would have thought that what appeared in front of her would leave her stunned?
The base itself wasn’t aesthetically pleasing; however, the houses, which only had a living room and one bedroom with a kitchen, looked warm and welcoming.
The houses was devoid of any leaky ceilings, makeshift tents, or neighborly noise. Maybe it was due to low population, or maybe it was because of the soundproofing walls.
Either way, Jenna fell in love with the entire setup and begged Kyle to move into the nameless base.
At first, Kyle strongly resisted; this nameless base didn’t even have a guard. And its gate was wide open, as if to attract the attention of all the zombie and lead them in.
However, after surveying the base and remaining inside for the next 20 minutes, he realized that, although the zombies appeared at the gates, they had never actually entered.
Even with the presence of humans, they left, as if they were afraid of the unknown force.
Gradually, he caught sight of the grocery store and discovered the impending installation of a solar panel, which filled him with excitement.
At last, they exchanged all their remaining supplies with the military and others for 10 gold bars and bought permanent residency.
They observed the gradual recruitment of talents at the base, which formed a team of soldiers that patrolled 24/7, ensuring their security.
From their perspective, the base will only continue to prosper.
Life couldn’t get any better, except... Jenna came up with an idea.
Food reselling business.
"The grocery store is mostly likely owned by the mysterious base owner; we can buy the rice from here and sell it online. In this way, we can earn a huge amount of crystals and slowly become rich." She proposed.
To say Kyle wasn’t tempted would be a lie, however...
"What if the base owner felt offended? After all, if it’s just about reselling, why didn’t the base owner do it? And why didn’t others do it?" His brows were furrowed; although he had an answer in his heart, he couldn’t express it directly, which is why he asked so many questions.
Jenna took the bait and asked with a frown, "Why?"
"Because... "
