Chapter 236

Chapter 236: Chapter 236

- HAZEL -

I walk to the door, my heart thumping in my chest. Unlike the usual way where it feels like I’m about to vomit my heart out, my heart beat is regulated and calmer. I am wary of what he wants to say to me but at the same time, I also feel quite comfortable. Maybe because the person who’s about to deliver this news to me, whatever it is, is none other than Killian’s brother and this brother has helped me escape what would have been a very complicated situation.

I let out a sigh, trying to calm myself further. I do not know if I should be more worried because it’s his brother. Brothers know each other more than anyone else would and what worse time could a sibling pop up to his brother’s girlfriend than when he caught them being. . . I swallow. . . Intimate.

I unlock my door slightly and stick my head out.

“You can come in now.” I whisper under my breath. Liam flashes me a smirk. This is when I pull the door open completely to let him in.

When he takes a few steps inside, he stops and gazes at my room. “So this is what a girl’s room looks like.” A chuckle leaves his lips. He turns to face me. “Cute.”

I don’t know why but my eyes widen for a second and I immediately turn around to shut the door.

My room is not cute!!

“So, what brings you here?” I ask, still standing by the door. I have no particular reason for not going in with him, I just would prefer having a good view of my room when someone else roams around it.

“Really? No soft love for the saviour pretending to be your lover?” Liam says playfully then drags his hand up to rest on his chest. “I’m hurt.” I can hear the mock-sarcasm humour in his flirt. This makes me roll my eyes.

“Welcome to my not so glamorous sleep haven. Now, what brings you here?” I smile widely, my voice polite.

The chuckle that eludes his lips goes straight to my skin, making goosebumps pop all over me.

“I’m just here to check up on you, that’s all.” Liam says, taking my humour with a grin.

“I appreciate the gesture.” I say to him. I’m still clung to the door. I think this may seem like I’m ready to escort him out when he’s ready but I’m not much bothered by how my standing by the door may come across and it seems like he’s not too. I’m actually keeping my distance from him based on embarrassment. I still can’t believe I was caught. And by him.

His freaking brother! Blood brother. I wonder if he heard me moan. That would be even more embarrassing to know. I would rather not find out.

“Now,” I finally mumble. “What is it about your brother that you wish to tell me?”

I notice his hand fold into a fist for a second before releasing. This makes my brows furrow.

“Honestly, I just figured out it’s none of my business.” Liam utters. Now my brows crease. What the heck?

He walks towards me. I assume he’s headed for the door and I step to the side to move away from the door completely but a hand stops my movement. Liam rests both his hands on both ends of the door, trapping me between them. His body is close to mine but not so close that I can feel his fabric come in contact with my skin. He’s being respectful with space. I appreciate that but the way he stares at me though leaves me anxious.

He stares at me like he’s looking at something exciting. “You’re so innocent and young that sometimes I fear for you.” Liam says, picking his words gently. He takes one hand off the door and I suddenly feel something tug the end of my hair softly. Normally, a gently touch like this would leave me feeling calm but not this time. Not when his facial expression and smile along with his warm tone seem to insinuate something deadly.

Something dangerous. And it’s odd because he looks and sounds so relaxed yet my brains gives me a warning. Such an irony.

“Not everything is as they seem, innocent pumpkin. Don’t let a fragile infatuation scar you for a lifetime.”

Huh? What does he mean? What infatuation and if it is what I think it is, how dare he tell me this when my love interest is his brother?!

I don’t know what to say. The last time I spoke to someone commenting on my relationship with Killian, that person ended up being his mother figure. This time, I am aware Liam is his brother so I can’t decide on how careful my words should be so I remain quiet.

He lets go of my hand and his other hand leaves his resting place on the door. He smiles at me. His smile looks so pure like he did not just say the most bizarre thing ever. Do I even tell this to Killian? I do not know and it is infuriating.

“See you downstairs tonight, darling.” Liam says, stepping away from me. His hand leans forward to the door knob making me adjust to the side completely. “It seems the other ladies have a little game in stall for us all to play.” I raise my brow. I wasn’t aware of no game but him coming here to talk to me about a game would’ve been much preferable compared to now.

I do not say a word.

“That is, before Killian and I leave tonight.” Liam adds. This makes me shoot my head up to face him. A soft gasp leaves my lips.

They’re going tonight? I did not know. Killian said nothing to me and neither did Kate. I suddenly feel saddened. I hate that I wasn’t aware till now.. I barely had time spent with him after so long and now he’d be leaving in a few hours. That seems so unfair.

“Okay, thanks for the info.” I murmur, trying to hide my dismay. He winks at me then steps out. I huff when his presence is completely gone.

This whole thing sucks.
