"You brat!"
Hearing Wan Yunting suspect he was responsible for his parents' deaths, Lei Jun pointed at him with a cigar in his hand, laughing exasperatedly, "Have you gone crazy in prison? I would kill your parents?"
"Yes, I had a competitive relationship with your father back then, but I, Lei Jun, conduct myself with integrity. Although I’ve built a company this large and have wronged many people privately, I, Lei Jun, would never resort to murder!"
Wan Yunting smiled without betraying his emotions, taking a puff of his cigarette without speaking.
However, in his heart, he didn't actually suspect Lei Jun of being the murderer of his parents!
As he said, he didn't have the guts to kill anyone, Wan Yunting was certain of that.
"Manager Lei, can you tell me, after I went to prison, during the three months, did my father have any other disputes within the business circles?" Wan Yunting asked immediately.
Lei Jun rolled his eyes at him and said, "Let me think..."
Because Wan Yunting was sentenced to prison that year, his parents died in a car accident three months later.
"I really can't recall if your father had any other conflicts or rivalries at the time..."
Lei Jun shook his head, but then his brow furrowed, and he let out a hiss, "If there was any conflict, your father had an altercation with a young man at a private party!"
"An altercation?"
Wan Yunting's eyes narrowed. Lei Jun nodded and said, "Your father, Wan Tielin, for some reason, got into a physical altercation with a young man at the party."
"Fortunately, someone pulled them apart, so they didn't fight. However, that young man publicly vowed to kill your father!"
This made Wan Yunting frown. He didn't even know about this incident and hadn't heard his eldest sister or second brother mention it.
"Manager Lei, do you know the name of that person?" Wan Yunting asked.
"Let me think... um, his name is Gao Zhe. He's from Shenzhen, not from our Huadu. And I heard he's from a prestigious family, but I'm not sure exactly what kind," Lei Jun shook his head. He emphasized, "That young man that night was very mysterious. No one knew who invited him, as he wasn't from our city."
Wan Yunting frowned. It seemed the Gao Zhe Lei Jun mentioned was a significant issue!
"Actually, I also find the deaths of your parents suspicious. After all, your parents died in a car accident just a few days after that incident," Lei Jun said, exhaling smoke and curling his lips.
Wan Yunting nodded. This was indeed an unexpected clue!
"Who hosted that private party?" Wan Yunting asked.
"Of course, it was Kang Hongwen, the mayor of Huadu," Lei Jun said with a smile.
"Oh!"
This surprised Wan Yunting. He hadn't expected it to be Kang Hongwen.
No wonder he recognized him when he treated the old lady and said he had a deep impression of his father!
It seemed he needed to find Kang Hongwen to ask what exactly happened at that party back then.
Wan Yunting stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and looked up at Lei Jun apologetically, "Manager Lei, I apologize for the abrupt visit today. I hope you can forgive me."
"I understand."
Lei Jun waved his hand and sighed, "Although your father and I were at odds back then, I truly regret his death. So, Yunting, if your parents were indeed murdered, I hope you can find the killer and bring them to justice!"
Wan Yunting nodded with a serious expression, then stood up, "Manager Lei, I will take my leave then. I'll visit again another day to apologize."
"Mm, Xiao Tao, see him out for me."
Lei Jun nodded and called his secretary in to see Wan Yunting downstairs.
Just then, his phone rang. Lei Jun got up and walked to his desk. He saw it was his daughter calling and smiled, "Yu Meng, what's wrong?"
"Dad, Mom's condition has worsened!"
"Ah, why has her condition worsened? How is she now? Has she been sent to the hospital?" Lei Jun asked anxiously.
"Uncle Min has already seen Mom. Her condition is stable now. I've also asked Cousin Luo Tang; she'll be here soon," his daughter said.
"That's good, that's good."
Lei Jun breathed a sigh of relief, then said, "Yu Meng, I'm on a business trip in Dongshi now and won't be back until tonight. You take good care of your mother first, and we'll talk when I get back, okay?"
"Oh, alright, then Dad, you go ahead and be busy."
"Okay..."
After ending the call with his daughter, Lei Jun raised his eyebrows and sighed helplessly...
Wan Yunting went downstairs and returned to his car. He picked up his phone and called Kang Hongwen directly, but it was his secretary, Lin Gaofeng, who answered. "Doctor Wan, Director Kang is in a meeting. Is there anything you need?"
"Director Kang isn't in Huadu?" Wan Yunting raised his eyebrows.
"Yes, we're on a business trip in Jiang City and won't be back until tomorrow."
"Alright, then that's all for now. Please let me know when Director Kang returns, Secretary Gao," Wan Yunting wanted to speak with Kang Hongwen in person about this matter.
"Okay."
Lin Gaofeng nodded, and they hung up. Wan Yunting frowned, wondering if his parents' deaths were related to Kang Hongwen!
Just then, his phone rang, interrupting Wan Yunting's thoughts. Seeing the caller ID was Qi Miaomiao, he answered, "Hello, Doctor Qi. Is there something you need?"
"Doctor Wan, do you have time now?"
Qi Miaomiao, speaking from Gu Luotang's study, said, "My senior sister's relative is ill and hasn't been recovering. She'd like to ask you to come and take a look."
Hearing this, Wan Yunting didn't think much of it. He checked the time and nodded with a smile, "No problem. Send me the location, and I'll head over now."
"Okay, I'll send it to you via WeChat. You can pick us up first."
As soon as Qi Miaomiao saw him agree, she gave Gu Luotang a look, making her feel a bit embarrassed.
"Okay."
Wan Yunting nodded, hung up the call, and soon Qi Miaomiao sent him the address of Gu Luotang's grandfather's house...
Half an hour later, Wan Yunting's car slowly stopped at the main entrance of the Gu residence. As he got out of the car, he was about to call Qi Miaomiao when he saw the two sisters walking out.
Wan Yunting was taken aback. Gu Luotang had changed into another Hanfu – a lotus-leaf green bandeau dress, with a gradient green brocade robe worn over it. Her waist was cinched with a wide, pale blue sash, tied into a butterfly knot, accentuating her slender figure.
Her jet-black hair was styled into an elegant double-bun hairstyle, adorned with a few jade decorations. A long silver orchid hairpin was inserted into the bun. Coupled with her ethereal aura, she appeared as graceful and moving as a pure and immaculate orchid from an ancient painting.
"Doctor Wan..."
Seeing the man's gaze fixed on her, Gu Luotang's pretty face flushed pink, and her heart trembled with shyness, as she had deliberately dressed up before coming out.
"Doctor Gu, Doctor Qi."
Wan Yunting snapped back to reality and smiled apologetically. He had to admit that Gu Luotang truly looked like a fairy emerging from an ancient painting, serene and captivating.
"Then let's go."
Qi Miaomiao, also wearing a beautiful Hanfu dress, was equally lovely, but her temperament was slightly less refined compared to Gu Luotang.
Wan Yunting nodded and personally opened the car doors for them. Qi Miaomiao then gently pushed the somewhat shy Gu Luotang into the front passenger seat, while she herself sat in the back. Wan Yunting, as if privy to their thoughts, smiled before turning to get into the car.
"Doctor Wan, the address is Tianhong Villa District," Qi Miaomiao said from the back seat.
"Okay."
Wan Yunting nodded and immediately turned the car towards Tianhong Villa District. He then turned to look at Gu Luotang sitting beside him, whose expression was extremely unnatural, and said with a smile, "Is the patient one of Doctor Gu's relatives?"
"Ah, yes..."
Gu Luotang, lost in thought, responded quickly, appearing very nervous.
"She's my senior sister's aunt," Qi Miaomiao said for her from the back.
"Mm."
Gu Luotang also nodded at Wan Yunting, trying hard to suppress her inner feelings. She said, "Actually, her illness isn't serious. It's a condition of stagnant qi and blood!"
Upon hearing the diagnosis, Wan Yunting turned to Gu Luotang beside him and asked, "Then Doctor Gu should have no problem with this, right?"
This question caused Gu Luotang and Qi Miaomiao to exchange a glance, their expressions somewhat awkward, because the real reason they invited Wan Yunting was to get to know him better...
