The dining room was empty except for the two of them.
Tianyi held Susu close, letting her lean against his shoulder. "Feeling any better? Still sleepy?" he asked.
"Not sleepy. I slept all day, so it's hard to fall asleep at night," Susu said, yawning.
Tianyi chuckled. "I doubt that. You always fall asleep instantly at night."
Susu, however, felt something was off. "Do you think I might have some terminal illness? That's why I suddenly became so weak."
"Nonsense," Tianyi exclaimed, exasperated. He patted her shoulder firmly. "Did your period get delayed this month?"
Susu hadn't processed his question yet. She counted on her fingers. "How did you know I was delayed?"
"Silly girl, what do you think?"
Susu suddenly understood. She sat up straight. "Could it be that I'm pregnant again?"
Tianyi nodded. "It's possible."
"Impossible," Susu said, feeling a bit dazed.
Tianyi put his arm around her. "I'll take you to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning, and we'll know for sure."
Susu looked at him. "We don't have to wait until tomorrow morning. Have you forgotten there's something called a pregnancy test? Can you stand waiting all night guessing?"
"You're right, I'm so stupid. I'll go buy one right now." With that, Tianyi got up and, calling for Xiao Lin, hurried out again.
Later that night, in their room, Susu looked at the pile of pregnancy tests in front of her, utterly amused. "One would have been enough. Why did you buy so many?"
"What if the one I bought happened to be faulty? Buying more allows for repeated verification," Tianyi said, his reasoning perfectly sound.
But Susu thought he was still acting like a spoiled rich kid, spending money carelessly and talking about it like a scientific experiment.
She took three to the bathroom. Since he had bought so many, it would be a waste not to use a few.
Standing in front of the washbasin mirror, she looked at the three identical results, unsure whether she should be happy or angry.
She had originally felt that three children were enough, and she and Tianyi had agreed not to have any more.
But after Tianyi had worn condoms for a while, he had decided he didn't like them and refused to wear them anymore.
She had wanted to get an IUD or take birth control pills, but Tianyi had researched them and said they would be bad for her health, so he wouldn't let her do either.
Fine, he had finally come up with the method of calculating her fertile period, claiming he was absolutely accurate and could reassure her.
Alas, the result! What was so accurate about it? It was infuriating!
Tianyi waited outside for a long time, and when he didn't see her come out of the bathroom, he knocked on the door. "Wife, how is it? Am I right? Open the door!"
Susu grabbed a pregnancy test and immediately opened the door, facing him with a flurry of playful punches. "Didn't you say your calculations were very accurate? You liar! You're making me so angry, you really are a deceiver!"
Tianyi dodged her little punches, snatched the pregnancy test from her hand, glanced at it, and immediately exclaimed with joy, "You really are pregnant! We might have a little princess!"
Susu pushed him onto the bed and lay on top of him. "Look at the mess you've made, and you're still so happy!"
Tianyi hugged her, afraid she might roll over and fall. "I really did research it online for a long time. The fertile period calculation is absolutely foolproof. This is an accident, an accident."
Susu pouted. "You're just making excuses."
Tianyi looked at her seriously. "Whether we keep this child is your decision. I respect whatever you choose."
"Let go of me, you're squeezing me so tight I can barely breathe," Susu said, pushing against him with her hands.
Tianyi quickly loosened his grip. "Be careful yourself, don't fall."
Susu sat up. "Since I'm pregnant, of course, we're keeping it."
"What did you say?" Tianyi thought he had misheard. He sat up and moved closer to her. "You mean you want to give birth to this child."
Susu looked at him, annoyed. "Once conceived, it's a life. Of course, I'll give birth to it!"
Tianyi jumped up with joy. "That's wonderful! I hope it's a girl, so she'll have a companion like Tiantian."
Susu smiled at him. "See? This is your scheme. I'll never believe your 'very accurate calculations' again."
"Yes, yes, yes, my dear wife," Tianyi said, smiling at her. "We'll still go to the hospital tomorrow for a prenatal check-up and to set up a file."
"I know," Susu said, lying down on the bed. She thought about how this would delay a lot of work at the studio. "I'm sleepy again."
Tianyi quickly sat by the bed, helped her pull up the covers, and said tenderly, "Sleep, sleep. I'll stay with you."
Susu turned over, her back to him, and smiled secretly. Having Tianyi take care of her so meticulously made her feel very happy.
Actually, she knew Tianyi really liked daughters and wanted to have another one for him.
But she wasn't that foolish. If Tianyi knew her true thoughts, she would deliberately act reluctant, and then Tianyi would cherish her efforts even more.
...
The next morning, they went to a well-known private obstetrics and gynecology hospital.
After Susu finished her examination in the consultation room, she saw that the chief physician who examined her looked serious.
She asked nervously, "Doctor, have you found any problems?"
The chief physician glanced at her, then at the ultrasound results in her hand, and asked, "Are you here alone for the examination, or do you have family with you?"
"My husband is with me," Susu replied.
The chief physician said, "Shall I have the nurse call your husband in?"
"Okay," Susu asked anxiously, "Is there something wrong with the baby in my womb?"
"No. Your pregnancy is one month along, and the embryo is developing normally."
Susu couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. She didn't understand why the doctor wanted to call Tianyi in if the baby was normal. Why couldn't she just tell her directly?
Just then, Tianyi arrived at the consultation room. He quickly placed his hand on Susu's shoulder and asked, "How were the examinations? Are you feeling unwell?"
Susu didn't know how to answer him.
The doctor asked him to sit down first. After looking at them, she said, "Mr. Qin, based on the examination results of your wife, her condition is somewhat perilous."
Tianyi was startled. He tightly grasped Susu's hand and asked the doctor nervously, "Is my wife's physical condition not suitable for pregnancy? Then we won't have this child. My wife is more important than anything. I just want her to be safe."
Susu could feel his palms sweating. She quickly comforted him, "Tianyi, the doctor just told me the baby is developing normally..."
"Didn't you hear the doctor say it's perilous!" Tianyi interrupted her, insisting, "Forget it, we won't have this child. Nothing is more important than your safety!"
Susu also became anxious. "Just let the doctor finish speaking! Weren't you looking forward to this pregnancy!"
"Mr. Qin, Mrs. Qin, please don't argue. Listen to me," the doctor said, seeing how much they loved each other and were concerned for each other. She couldn't help but be touched.
They looked at each other. Tianyi calmed down and asked, "What exactly is perilous for my wife?"
