Susu explained, "I thought he wouldn't understand anything I said, so I used the most direct method to stimulate him, to see if he could regain his memory. Is that not allowed? Then how do you want me to help him recover his memories of you?"
Allen ordered Tom to push Yang Sijie back to his room to rest. Then, he looked at her and said with a cold laugh, "Do you still need me to tell you what you should do? Are you so indifferent to him, not caring at all?"
"He killed people, laundered money, trafficked organs, and coerced women, including my friends. He committed so many heinous acts! You can't erase his past wrongdoings just because he's become incapacitated now!" Susu only wanted Allen to be clear-headed and rational. Not everyone could be like him, blurring right and wrong for the sake of his friendship with Yang Sijie.
Allen pursed his lips and said dismissively to Susu, "Ask yourself, is Frank really so wicked in your eyes? You only remember that he threatened you, forced you, and all his bad deeds. But what about his kindness to you? From beginning to end, did he ever truly harm you? I know best that he has always thought of you, always considered you. Who is to blame for him becoming like this? Yet, even in this state, he still remembers you."
Susu looked at him, unable to utter a word, her heart feeling as if it were being torn apart.
Allen also spoke words that had been weighing on his heart for a long time, "Sometimes I can't understand why he loves you so much. Is it worth it? But it's meaningless to say this now."
After speaking, Allen abandoned Susu and turned to leave.
Susu stood rooted to the spot, her heart aching terribly, not knowing what to do.
The events of her youth surged back to her like a tide...
One winter, it was snowing. She was bullied by some girls from the orphanage and wrongly accused.
The director of discipline at the time didn't believe her and made her stand in the courtyard as punishment.
In a fit of anger, she climbed over the wall and ran away, heading to the mountain behind the orphanage's fence. It was already dark, and the mountain was cold and gloomy. Because she couldn't see the path clearly, she fell several times, her forehead hitting the ground and her hands getting scraped. Covered in snow, she felt as if she would freeze to death on the mountain.
Disheartened, she curled up beside a rock, knowing she was an unwanted orphan. No one would care about her, and no one would notice her absence from the orphanage on this snowy day.
It wouldn't matter much even if she died. In this world, she was merely superfluous.
She was shivering so hard her teeth chattered, no longer feeling the cold. As she drifted into unconsciousness, someone with a flashlight woke her up, "Susu, you're so foolish, really planning to give up your life for those scumbags!"
She looked blankly at the person who had woken her and stammered, "Sijie gege..."
Yang Sijie didn't say anything further. He simply picked her up onto his back.
The road was slippery after the snow, making the descent even more treacherous. Yang Sijie almost knelt, forcing himself to carry her down the mountain, preventing her from getting hurt again.
On his back, she felt her snow-soaked clothes dry in the mountain wind. But as they pressed together, she felt warmth spreading through her body.
She rested her head on his back and whispered in his ear, "Sijie gege, you are the person who cares about me the most in this world. For you, I will never do anything foolish again. You too."
"It's good that you think that way. We both need to live well, live well together..."
The memory abruptly ended. Susu felt a pain in her chest so intense it felt like it would explode. She crouched down on the ground.
She didn't understand why she had become this way, hating Yang Sijie so much that she didn't want him to live.
In the following days, she tried her best not to think about Yang Sijie's past wrongdoings. She treated him simply as a paralyzed patient, taking care of him diligently during the times Allen allowed, accompanying him in laughter and in silence.
She spoke to him in a gentle tone about many things that had happened between him and Allen.
Of course, she had heard these stories from Allen, some he had told her at the dessert shop, and others he recalled when he had free time.
In Allen's eyes and heart, Yang Sijie was an exceptionally loyal person, willing to go to any lengths and spare no effort for his friends.
Listening to his memories, Susu also recalled many events from their youth. In fact, Yang Sijie's original nature was like this; it was only the desperate circumstances of survival later that changed him.
She also tried to subtly extract information from Allen when he was completely relaxed and unguarded, attempting to find out where he had imprisoned Tianyi.
But he always discovered her intentions, saying with a smile, "Don't forget the conditions we agreed upon. Have you fulfilled them? If not, I won't tell you."
"What if he never remembers you?"
Allen replied in a cold tone, "Then you'll stay here forever. I don't mind having one more person to make him happy."
"Then will you keep Tianyi imprisoned forever?" Susu pleaded, "It's fine if you keep me here, but release Tianyi, release him..."
"You take me for a fool. If I release him alone, will he just let it go?"
Whenever she mentioned letting Qin Tianyi go, Allen's expression would immediately change, and he would refuse to speak further with her.
Thus, Susu counted the days, and seven days passed in the blink of an eye.
One morning, she saw Allen carrying a travel bag, indicating he was about to leave.
"Where are you going, and for how long?" Susu asked worriedly. "Have you put enough water and food where Tianyi is being held?"
Allen replied, "There's enough food and water there for ten days."
"You're leaving for ten days, meaning you're going somewhere off this island. What are you going out for, and where are you going?" Susu asked all her questions in one breath.
"I don't need to explain any of this to you. Stay here obediently and continue to care for him according to Frank's schedule. Tom will help you if anything comes up," Allen warned her again. "Don't have any ulterior motives. If you dare to mess with my plans, when I return, I will cut off all supplies to Qin Tianyi. Let's see how many days he can survive without food or water."
With that, he strode out of the house, followed by Tom, who was likely seeing him off.
Susu knew she could leave the premises and escape once Allen was gone.
But where would she go to find Tianyi after leaving here? If Allen found out and became enraged, would he starve Tianyi to death?
She couldn't abandon Tianyi. She still needed to make Yang Sijie remember who Allen was as quickly as possible.
At that moment, Yang Sijie's voice came from the room. Although his enunciation wasn't very clear, Susu could tell he was repeatedly calling her name, "Susu."
She went into the room and pushed him out, noticing that the blanket on his lap had fallen.
She carefully covered him again with the blanket and prepared to push him into the garden to look at the sea.
But he firmly pressed the automatic control button, preventing the wheelchair from moving forward, and said, "Help me up... I want to walk..."
Susu thought she had misheard and asked, "What did you say you want to do?"
