After Li De set the direction, the construction of the running water system quickly entered the right track. Especially with the dwarves joining in, there was hardly anything left that required his personal attention.
Concentrating power to accomplish great undertakings, this was the advantage of a dictatorship. The power structure of Dawn City ensured that anything Li De wanted to do would be handled immediately.
For a nascent power, this was absolutely the key to taking off.
Of course, there were drawbacks as well. If the decision-maker made a mistake, it was easy for the entire faction to suffer massive losses.
However, based on Li De’s judgment so far, the probability of that happening was still quite low.
Every decision he made was premised on strengthening Dawn City: building farmland, developing the city, establishing the Dawn Mage Tower, creating livestock farms, sustainable development plans, and so on.
If a plan could make Dawn City stronger, he would weigh what price needed to be paid, what success would bring, and what consequences failure might cause.
Once he judged the benefits outweighed the drawbacks, he would push it forward without hesitation.
It was thanks to Li De’s firm hand that Dawn City had developed so rapidly this past year.
October 10th.
After more than half a month of concentrated effort by the entire city, the construction of the running water system, a project with epoch-making significance, was finally completed in Dawn City.
This was destined to be a day of universal excitement for all residents.
Running water, it was simply unbelievable.
The water source was springs on the peaks to the east and west. The vampires had built massive reservoirs halfway up the mountains to serve as water towers.
Rock pipes reinforced with metal materials were connected directly to the base of the reservoirs. These pipes, with an outer diameter of two blades and an internal channel of one and a half blades, were embedded into the mountainside rock. From the reservoirs on both flanks, they extended deep underground, then channeled the water through subterranean stone pipes into Dawn City.
The urban area was divided into several zones, each supplied by a main pipeline. Branch lines split off from the main pipe, and further sub-branches led to the base of each building, where iron pipes brought the water indoors.
Every building was allocated two faucets. In newly built houses, the running water was piped in directly.
Each section of pipe in these zones was fitted with valves. Shutting a valve could turn off the water supply to one area.
Turning off the main valve would cut off the water to the entire city.
You could say that everything about this was utterly modern.
The completion of the running water system marked Dawn City’s entry into a new era, a giant step forward for civilization.
The boost to the city’s morale was unimaginable.
And as the instigator, Li De once again experienced a dramatic surge in his renown.
In the eyes of Dawn City’s residents, this alchemical creation, more impressive than any divine artifact, defied words.
Simply opening a faucet caused clean, clear spring water to gush out. As long as the valve stayed open, the spring water would never stop flowing.
Even after watching the entire process with their own eyes, the residents still found it profoundly miraculous and shocking.
Such a magnificent alchemical creation, only their great Lord Kachar could have brought it into existence.
Moreover, during construction, Lord Kachar had mobilized large numbers of mages to participate.
Those mage apprentices were the residents’ own children. The pride and sense of honor they felt at seeing their children involved in an epic project personally overseen by Lord Kachar was beyond description.
Whether it was the vampires, the mage apprentices, or the dwarves, when the final moment came and the faucets were turned, unleashing an endless stream of spring water… The waves of praise were overwhelming.
Especially the dwarves, this race that had not yet fully integrated into Dawn City felt their sense of belonging deepen tremendously during this time.
Wherever they went, they were met with the residents’ enthusiastic greetings and looks of reverent admiration.
Some parents even pointed to their children and said, “Look, child, this is the dwarven master who forged the running water system for our Dawn City. When you grow up, you must become someone as capable as the dwarves.”
This was simply the highest and most beautiful praise.
“When you grow up, you must become like the dwarves.”
These words were irresistible to the dwarves, who were instantly won over.
In this period, these short-statured folk held their heads high and their chests out wherever they went, their hearts brimming with inexpressible pride.
Even those who had longed for the Brutehammer clan back home no longer felt any resistance toward this city that treated them with such warmth and gratitude.
Here, they had found both warmth and belonging.
With this one project, the dwarves truly began to integrate into Dawn City.
It was foreseeable that in the near future, these forging masters, who had once been captured by Li De’s strong hand, would truly become part of Dawn City.
And it was all happening under the rule of the vampires they had once so bitterly resented.
After the running water system was completed, Li De could clearly see that the number of casual believers on his Faith Panel was decreasing, while the number of believers and devout believers was rapidly rising.
Many of the faithful of the Dawn Order firmly believed that only a great god could create such mythic alchemical wonders.
Running water was a miracle bestowed by the divine.
And as the God of Dawn, Li De naturally became the object of even more fervent worship.
While the water system was being built, another project Li De had overseen personally was also approaching its conclusion.
The planting of winter wheat.
The environment in Glory was somewhat different from Earth. Spring wheat was sown at the end of April or the start of May and harvested in September. Winter wheat was sown at the end of September or the beginning of October and harvested the following April.
Because this year they had sown wheat early in March, the harvest had already been completed by the beginning of August.
Therefore, the planting of winter wheat was also prepared early under the guidance of the Agriculture Department. During the two months of fallow, manure from the livestock farm was spread over the fields, and various burned grass and wheat straw greatly replenished the soil’s fertility.
