Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 10 Food and Companions

Chapter 1 Opportunity

"Clang!"

Li Chenzhou's body instantly dropped, squatting abruptly on the ground. The steel rebar wrapped with his dagger pierced the SUV behind him.

Subconsciously glancing back at the rebar, Li Chenzhou's expression changed drastically. He leaped up forcefully, took a couple of steps forward, then dove into a fish roll, tumbling several times on the ground.

"Boom!"

Behind him, the SUV suddenly exploded violently. Thick black smoke billowed into the air, and flames instantly engulfed the entire vehicle—Zhang Hu's thrown "javelin" had pierced the SUV's fuel tank.

"What the f***..."

Li Chenzhou, covered in dust, scrambled to his feet, staring at the burning SUV in lingering shock. He suddenly felt that this rebirth of his didn't seem as smooth as the previous one.

In the previous life, Zhang Hu saved him, but turned into a zombie because of it. This time, he almost killed him. Could it be... a choice between two evils?

"Boss! They kidnapped my sister!"

Before Li Chenzhou could regain his senses, Duan Lei, with blood streaming down his face, stood up, pointing in the direction Zhang Jinlong and the others had fled, crying out.

"What?"

Li Chenzhou was startled and quickly looked over.

Although he himself was unaffected by the fog of war, he had been frantically slaughtering zombies to accumulate enough Slaughter Points during the fog's duration, leaving him no energy to pay attention to this side.

At this moment, due to the sounds of firecrackers, gunshots, and the SUV's explosion, a large number of zombies had appeared on both sides of the highway and were rapidly gathering towards them.

If most of the zombies on the highway weren't trapped in their cars, they would probably be completely surrounded by now.

Looking at the surrounding zombies and then at Zhang Jinlong and the others fleeing in the distance, Li Chenzhou's face turned grim.

His Slaughter Points were all used up; he couldn't exchange them for anything. He did have a gun and could exchange Slaughter Points for bullets at any time. If he had enough time, he could try to kill all these zombies. Maybe he could accumulate enough Slaughter Points to buy the evolution potion, making it easier to save her.

The problem was that Duan Xue was a girl. In this kind of world, Li Chenzhou knew exactly what would happen to a girl kidnapped by five men, so he didn't have time to delay.

But if he chased after them now, the zombies would definitely not let them off. Before they even caught up with those people, they would be overtaken and killed by the zombies. So, Li Chenzhou had no choice at all.

Just then, Li Chenzhou suddenly saw the body of the King Kong that had been blasted to his right front, and his eyes lit up.

He immediately pounced on it, firing two shots into the corpse's head. Then, disregarding the filth, he reached inside and pulled out a thumb-sized, dark gray crystal.

This was a mutated crystal core, a Level 1. Although it was the lowest level, it could still allow someone to become a Level 1 Enhancer. As for how much they would be enhanced and whether they could comprehend skills and talents, it all depended on luck.

"Go after your sister! Take this! Wipe it clean and put it in your mouth to absorb it!"

Rushing over to shove the crystal core into Duan Lei's hand, Li Chenzhou shouted,

"You decide how to act based on the situation. I'll attract the zombies here and then try to escape as soon as possible to chase after you!"

"Okay!"

Duan Lei didn't hesitate. He grabbed the crystal core and ran, while Li Chenzhou jumped onto the truck bed, raised his pistol, and fired continuously at the zombies near Duan Lei.

The loud and continuous gunshots were like a lighthouse for the zombies. With Li Chenzhou's cover, Duan Lei finally broke through the encirclement and chased after Zhang Jinlong and the others.

Li Chenzhou's gunshots barely stopped. After seeing Duan Lei leave safely, he began to fire around himself, the gunshots ringing out almost every second.

After seeing Li Chenzhou dodge his javelin, Zhang Hu, nearly collapsing from fear, had slumped onto the truck bed. The subsequent explosion had made him even more frightened. Seeing that Li Chenzhou had ultimately survived, his heart finally returned to its place.

Now, watching Li Chenzhou standing on the truck bed, holding a gun in both hands, continuously shooting with a steady stance and hitting every shot, Zhang Hu suddenly felt a sense of unfamiliarity.

Was this really his always bullied, and rescued countless times by him, buddy?

However, just a few seconds later, Zhang Hu woke up. He looked around, then jumped off the truck bed and picked up the steel rebar he had used as a javelin.

The dagger taped to the head of the rebar had disappeared, but because it had been inserted into the fuel tank and was at the center of the explosion, the head of the javelin had been melted down to the thickness of a chopstick. Although it wasn't very sharp, it was probably enough to kill zombies.

Of course, Zhang Hu didn't recklessly run into the zombies to start killing. Instead, he climbed back onto the truck bed, guarding Li Chenzhou. If any zombies failed to be killed and approached, trying to climb onto the truck bed, they would become his target.

The pistol in Li Chenzhou's hand held ten bullets. Fortunately, he could exchange for bullets at any time, and they would directly appear in the magazine, so as long as he had enough Slaughter Points, this gun was equivalent to having unlimited bullets.

The price of five bullets for one Slaughter Point also put Li Chenzhou at ease. The only pity was that this gun was the cheapest kind and couldn't be equipped with a silencer.

Therefore, although Li Chenzhou's rate of fire was fast and he never missed, the number of zombies wasn't decreasing quickly—one bullet could only kill one zombie, but the gunshots attracted more than one.

Actually, if time allowed, Li Chenzhou would have really enjoyed this. He even wanted to keep shooting here until all the zombies in the vicinity were killed—for the constantly increasing Slaughter Points.

Unfortunately, first, Li Chenzhou needed to catch up with Duan Lei as soon as possible. Although absorbing the mutated crystal core was fast, even if he became an Enhancer, Duan Lei, without any combat experience, might not be able to successfully rescue Duan Xue.

And secondly, the appearance of the King Kong had made Li Chenzhou have some doubts about this reborn apocalypse.

The source of zombies' enhancement was Hell Silk, so to become an enhanced zombie, they had to devour a large amount of human or mutated beast meat, because these contained Hell Silk.

But it was only the first day now. No zombie could have eaten so much meat, right? Even if it had the appetite, the people it ate couldn't wait that long. At most, after two minutes, the food would mutate and stand up as its companion. Would it still have the nerve to continue eating?

Therefore, Li Chenzhou really couldn't understand the appearance of this King Kong. Moreover, he was now very afraid that his gunshots would attract another enhanced zombie.

If it was a Tyrant or a King Kong, it would be fine, but if it was a Shadow Demon or even a Corpse King, then forget about finding Duan Lei. Whether they could leave here alive would be a big problem.

Perhaps it was a case of whatever you fear comes to pass. Just as Li Chenzhou thought about not letting another enhanced zombie appear, he saw a black shadow flash past at an extremely fast speed out of the corner of his eye...
