Chapter 1388 Drifting: From Beginner to Burial

As for the Deluxe Package, it has a price difference of 3,000 compared to the Advanced Package. This difference mainly comes from the G-force seat.

Obviously, the Deluxe Package is for players who truly aren't short on cash. To buy this package, you first need to be able to afford the ten thousand yuan price tag, and secondly, you need to have enough space at home to put down the whole set and the G-force seat.

Some might think the Advanced Package isn't necessary. If you're already spending 7,000, why not spend another 3,000 on the G-force seat?

But not everyone thinks that way.

Firstly, going from 7,000 to 10,000 is nearly a 50% budget increase, and not everyone is willing to spend the extra money. Secondly, some people like the G-force seat because they think it simulates a realistic driving experience, but others don't like it, feeling that the shaking affects their performance.

So, these three packages cater to people with different spending power.

The price of the Basic Package is actually quite cheap in the field of driving simulation equipment. If you can't afford the Basic Package, then it's really not recommended to buy any driving simulation equipment at all. Just play racing games with a gamepad.

Of course, if you don't want any of the three packages, you can also buy a handbrake or other accessories on top of the first two packages. This is quite flexible.

Moreover, not being able to afford something doesn't mean you can't experience it. Just like the smart fitness clothes rack, you can go to public places to experience it.

In addition, the monitors included in these three packages are also different.

The Basic Package comes with a regular ultrawide monitor, the Advanced Package comes with a high-end ultrawide monitor, and the Deluxe Package comes with a custom narrow-bezel triple-screen gaming monitor.

Ye Zhizhou also gave Meng Chang a brief introduction to the different monitors.

The peripherals, including the steering wheel, are designed and produced by Ou Tu Technology through domestic OEM factories, but all packages do not include a display screen.

Because display screens require relatively high technology, players can directly buy ready-made ones and decide whether to buy an ultrawide screen or set up a triple-screen setup according to their needs.

If Ou Tu Technology releases an OEM display screen and adds it to the package, it would be suspected of bundled sales and would be criticized.

As for how different players should choose, it all depends on the individual.

If players want the most basic experience, then a basic ultrawide screen or a cheap triple-screen solution is essential.

If you want a better experience, then you need a super-wide gaming ultrawide screen, which is quite expensive. Major brands have this kind of 50-inch super-long ultrawide screen, priced at around ten thousand yuan.

Of course, you can also choose a triple-screen solution. The advantage of a triple-screen setup compared to an ultrawide screen is that the field of vision is wider. An ultrawide screen is equivalent to two screens, while a triple-screen setup provides the field of vision of an extra screen.

Moreover, the price of three screens combined is about the same as a high-end gaming ultrawide screen. However, the disadvantage is that there are bezels, which affect the immersion.

Ou Tu Technology doesn't need to develop a dedicated display screen itself, but if they want to improve the experience, there are ways to do it.

The specific approach is to cooperate with domestic display manufacturers to launch a super-narrow bezel gaming monitor specifically for triple-screen setups, and also pair it with a suitable optical kit.

The so-called optical kit is actually a special crystal similar to a triangular prism. By placing it at the gap between the three displays, the bezel can disappear from the human visual field through the principle of optical refraction.

However, the usage requirements for this optical kit are relatively strict, with requirements for the angle of the three displays, the width of the bezel, and so on.

Therefore, Ou Tu Technology only provides such a solution in cooperation with the display manufacturer. As for which screen to choose, players can decide according to their own preferences. The package does not include a bundled display screen.

Meng Chang sat down on the G-force seat of the Deluxe Package and felt very comfortable. It felt like a racing seat with good support, and it was also very thoughtfully equipped with a racing-specific seat belt. After buckling it up, it really felt like driving a race car, full of ritual.

Then he touched the steering wheel, and it must be said that the steering wheel's appearance was online, quite handsome.

The deep black direct drive motor was square and upright, and the steering wheel was wrapped in Alcantara leather, which felt very good to the touch, neither cold nor slippery, and even made people want to play with it involuntarily.

The shape of the entire steering wheel is also very similar to some luxury sports cars and race cars.

In addition, there are magnetic paddle shifters (to make the shifters crisper and sound better when shifted), an instrument panel display, turn signals, and various buttons for windshield wipers, etc.

Meng Chang had also rented sports cars to deliver kao leng mian (cold noodles) in the past, and had driven quite a few luxury cars. To be fair, the feel of this steering wheel in all aspects was certainly different from that of a luxury car, but it was already quite good.

What Meng Chang cared about more was this small display screen, just like the instrument panel position of a real car.

This was equivalent to placing the instrument panel, which was displayed using UI in the game, on this small screen below, which would obviously further enhance the immersion when driving.

Some might say that it's inconvenient to look down while driving, but isn't looking at the instrument panel in the lower right corner of the screen the same as looking down? As long as you look at the instrument panel, you will be distracted. This is unavoidable. You will also be distracted when looking at the instrument panel while driving in reality.

It's impossible not to look at the instrument panel at all. You can only glance at it out of the corner of your eye during the driving process when it's safe to do so.

Putting the UI of the interface in the lower right corner of the screen on a separate display screen will make it larger and clearer, just like how Formula One race car steering wheels also have a screen to display some key data. The overall experience will be better.

Moreover, this avoids the instrument panel obscuring the view on the screen, making the entire screen look much cleaner and enhancing the sense of immersion.

There was also a dedicated control panel next to it with various buttons, which seemed to be used to simulate more buttons. This made Meng Chang feel a bit like an old bus driver.

Meng Chang also stepped on the pedals and felt that the degree of realism was very high.

According to Ye Zhizhou's introduction, three different solutions were used for the three different pedals. The clutch and accelerator pedals used adjustable springs for rebound, while the brake pedal relied on a short section of pre-loaded spring and a large rubber block. The feel of lightly pressing and heavily pressing would be different, very close to the feeling of driving in reality.

The game demo was on the computer screen. Although some details were not yet perfect, the game was generally completed.

Seeing this equipment, Meng Chang couldn't wait to take it for a spin!

After all, many people say they don't like speeding, but in reality, they are afraid of accidents. When they get into the game, they step on the gas pedal harder than anyone else.

Putting everything else aside, this direct drive steering wheel, these vibrating all-metal pedals, and this G-force seat, wouldn't it be a complete waste of this equipment if you didn't speed?

Ye Zhizhou introduced, "Currently, you can directly select different game modes, but the official version of the game requires completing a series of preliminary tasks first."

The so-called "different game modes" are mainly divided into the following types: Regular Driving Mode, Freight Mode, Passenger Transport Mode, Track Race Mode, Rally Race Mode, etc.

Regular Driving Mode is roughly equivalent to the normal driving mode, while Freight Mode and Passenger Transport Mode correspond to large trucks and large passenger buses, respectively. Track Race and Rally Race correspond to different tracks.

Meng Chang didn't hesitate and directly chose Track Race Mode.

Are you kidding me? With such good equipment, of course, you have to speed on the track!

Moreover, Meng Chang was quite confident in his driving skills. He had learned a little drifting at the racetrack before, and his self-assessment was quite good.

What's more, drifting in racing games should be optimized to some extent, right? Like in many racing games, you can drift easily by pressing the handbrake button. Now it's just a matter of changing the equipment, replacing the joystick with a steering wheel, and replacing the button with a real handbrake. The operation is still the same.

Entering the competition venue, he very skillfully pulled the handbrake to burn rubber and start!

Entering the first right-hand turn, Meng Chang followed the techniques he had learned before, turning the steering wheel to the left and then quickly to the right, while simultaneously pulling the handbrake!

Then the car crashed sideways into the roadside barrier.

After a loud "bang," the view switched from the in-car view to the outside view. The airbags deployed, the driver was stunned in the seat, and the staff ran out to rescue him.

The surrounding audience exclaimed, some were scared, and some were mocking and confused, seemingly wondering how such a newbie got on the track.

Meng Chang: "???"

Something's not right. This shouldn't be how this game is supposed to go, right?

First of all, according to a typical racing game, I turned the steering wheel and pulled the handbrake, shouldn't I drift over smoothly?

Secondly, even if I bumped into something, I should still be able to continue driving, right? How did the driver just give up?

Finally, and most ridiculously, the surrounding audience was actually laughing at me?

If it were other racing games, the roadside audience would basically be background characters, only jumping around in place holding signs. But this game actually made different reactions for the audience?

What the hell! Why did you do this!

Moreover, after crashing, a page will pop up to tell the player the vehicle damage and the cost of repairs, and even the driver's injuries and medical expenses.

Meng Chang had only just started, the G-force seat had just started vibrating, the steering wheel and pedals had just started to feel right, and then there was nothing.

Ye Zhizhou coughed lightly, "Ahem, you've only played some entertainment-oriented racing games before, right? You haven't played simulation racing games, have you?"

Meng Chang nodded, "Is there a big difference?"

Ye Zhizhou was a little amused, "Of course there's a big difference! They're completely different concepts! The race cars in this game are basically based on real race cars in reality, with a high degree of realism. With such a crude drifting technique as you just used, no... it can't even be considered drifting, it can only be said to be courting death. It would be strange if you didn't crash."

"So, in this case, I still suggest you play other normal driving modes first. Getting on the track is not something that can be learned overnight..."
