Chapter 769: Chapter 769: They Started Fighting? And Lost?
She looked at him with confusion. “You wanted to see me for something?”
“…There was something I didn’t get to say just now.”
Chi Yue glanced at him again. “You could have called me directly. There was no need to bother Lin Wanyun.”
Fu Rongyin, of course, wouldn’t tell her it was Zhan Qing who took it upon himself to call her back, instead he said, “I lost my phone, so I had Zhan Qing make the call.”
Chi Yue nodded, no longer dwelling on that topic. “What did you want to see me for?”
Fu Rongyin was silent for a moment and then said, “I know you’ve brought up divorce proceedings again… could you possibly wait? I’ll explain everything to you clearly.”
Chi Yue was a bit surprised, then she chuckled lightly. “Fu Rongyin, you never intended to explain things to me, so why did you bother to call me back?”
Fu Rongyin’s face remained stiff. “It’s not that I don’t intend to explain, it’s that I can’t explain right now.”
“Is there a difference? You used to say the same thing. So much time has passed, you delay day by day, more and more things happen, and you still don’t intend to explain to me.”
Fu Rongyin choked, at a loss for words.
Chi Yue’s face was calm, her heart just as serene, “But it’s fine. Once this month is over, we’ll be divorced, and then whether you explain or not won’t matter.”
“That’s not what I mean, I…”
“It’s not important anymore. I’ll find a way to deal with the car accident. If it’s not convenient for you to get involved, then don’t. I’m leaving now. You should rest.”
Chi Yue turned to leave again, and Fu Rongyin hurried to grab her, but as soon as he set his foot down, he remembered his leg was in a cast. Losing his balance, he fell to the ground.
Chi Yue heard some noise inside, but she thought it was Fu Rongyin throwing things and didn’t look back.
The talk was clear; she no longer needed to keep him on her mind.
Fu Rongyin tried several times but couldn’t stand up, so he had no choice but to call Zhan Qing for help.
Zhan Qing had just driven out when he got a call from Fu Rongyin. He turned around and came back, his face as sullen as it could be, but fell silent upon seeing Fu Rongyin sprawled on the ground.
Fu Rongyin glared. “What are you dawdling for!”
Zhan Qing walked over leisurely, helped him up, and couldn’t resist mocking, “Did you get into a fight? And lost?”
Fu Rongyin shot him a look. “You talk too much.”
“I’m just showing concern for you.”
Fu Rongyin spoke coldly, “Don’t treat me like an idiot.”
Eventually, he was back in bed, his face still stern.
Zhan Qing’s expression wasn’t much better, after all, Fu Rongyin had ruined his hard-won date.
Thinking he didn’t know when he’d be able to schedule another date, Zhan Qing strode toward the door.
“Where are you going?”
Zhan Qing paused. “Qi Yizhou, I don’t owe you anything.”
“We’re partners.”
“It’s just a partnership. I’m not selling myself.”
Without giving Fu Rongyin a chance to speak, Zhan Qing said as he walked out, “I’ll call your dad. I’m done waiting on you.”
Fu Rongyin was furious but helpless against him.
On the other side, Chi Yue returned to the studio.
Lately she had nothing else to do, so she thought she’d concentrate on her work. That way, the remaining twenty or so days wouldn’t feel so difficult.
But it seemed her movements were public knowledge. No sooner had she entered the lab than Dai Qiu called her out, saying someone from the Fu family had come.
The Fu family?
Apart from Fu Xingchuan, she couldn’t think of anyone else.
So she said, “Tell them I’m busy and won’t see them.”
“It’s not him.” Dai Qiu hesitated before adding, “Go out and see for yourself; they’re downstairs.”
Chi Yue thought, could it be Fu Runan?
But the person she met wasn’t Fu Runan or Fu Xingchuan, but Xu Zhenwen.
In her memory, Xu Zhenwen was bedridden, so she hadn’t expected her to come out and look for her.
Chi Yue saw the elderly woman, with sunken eyes and looking decades older, and felt a surge of emotion.
She sat half-reclined in the business van, waving at her. “Chi Yue, come here, I have something to tell you…”
Chi Yue walked over and leaned in slightly. “Go ahead.”
“Chi Yue, I heard that Fan Xuesong has been clinging to you non-stop. Did she change her mind and ask you not to divorce Ah Yin?”
Chi Yue nodded. “She did say that.”
“Did you agree to her?”
Chi Yue didn’t answer but countered, “Do you need something from me?”
Xu Zhenwen stared at her intently. “What are your thoughts regarding your marriage with Ah Yin?”
“You should already know that I’ve filed for divorce,” Chi Yue remained noncommittal.
Xu Zhenwen sighed deeply. “I’m not here to persuade you to rethink things, but there’s something I must tell you…”
