Chapter 753: Chapter 753: Devastation

Chi Yue carefully reviewed the documents and finally handed the important evidence over to the lawyer.

On the day Fu Mianmian was discharged from the hospital, the woman who tried to kidnap her confessed, though even if she hadn’t, the result would have been the same.

What Chi Yue hadn’t expected was that the person behind it all was not Zhan Youyou, but Mr. Qi!

What was Mr. Qi doing?

People say grandparents dote on their grandchildren, and Fu Mianmian was his biological granddaughter. How could he have the heart to harm her?

“Yueyue, rest well these next few days, I will take care of Mianmian.”

Chi Jianshan, too, had hardly eaten or slept well during this time. Upon learning that the mastermind behind the scenes was Old Qi, he found it even harder to eat.

But Chi Yue was in worse shape than he was. He was older and slept less, but Chi Yue couldn’t keep up like this in the long run; it would inevitably lead to her collapse.

However, Chi Yue refused, “I still have a lot to do.”

Chi Jianshan disagreed, “I know you have a lot to do, but your body is already failing, what will you use to take care of Mianmian?”

“I know my limits.”

“Yueyue, are you not even listening to me now? I know how tough it is for you now, aside from dealing with Mianmian’s situation, you also need to prepare the documents to divorce Fu Rongyin. But these things cannot be rushed.”

“I understand.”

Seeing that Chi Yue was unbudging, Chi Jianshan had no choice but to give up.

Chi Yue arranged a meeting with Chu Shuo.

No sooner had Chi Yue sat down than Chu Shuo asked her, “Are you sure you want to divorce him? This is the third appeal for divorce.”

“Yes, no matter how many times, as long as I can get divorced.”

“I still suggest you see him first.”

“There’s no need for that. Let’s begin,” she said to the lawyer beside her.

Chu Shuo still spoke up, “Fu Rongyin is not such an irresponsible man. Why don’t you try contacting him again?”

Chi Yue paused for a moment and said, “Chu Shuo, the man I love the most wasn’t there when I needed him the most. He even blocked my calls. Do you know that kind of despair? I admit that I forgot about those ten years he endured pains I know nothing about, but these past years I’ve also been working hard to make it up to him. I’ve given my all, and I don’t have the strength to keep going.”

Chu Shuo did not respond.

Over those ten years, he had watched as Fu Rongyin struggled to recover, but it was only a superficial recovery.

For men like him who seemed carefree playboys on the surface, it’s best not to become emotionally involved, for once they do, they may never recover.

For Chi Yue, however, she had indeed given a lot. At least for her, the ordeal of imprisonment was almost a catastrophic disaster.

In the end, Chu Shuo relented, “Alright, you’ve made up your mind, I won’t persuade you anymore.”

As Chi Yue talked with the lawyer, Chu Shuo listened in. Halfway through, he stood up and went out to smoke a cigarette.

In the haze of smoke, he saw Fu Rongyin’s face as if still suffering from a hangover, and ultimately, he took out his phone and dialed Fu Rongyin’s number.

The phone rang for a long time before being answered, the voice that came through weary, startling Chu Shuo so that his hand holding the cigarette trembled, “What has been tormenting you?”

On the other end, Fu Rongyin tiredly pinched the bridge of his nose.

He had not closed his eyes for three days, all for the sake of solving the problem and returning to Nancheng within a week.

“What is it?” he asked.

Hearing the exhaustion in his voice, Chu Shuo had initially wanted to joke around but, overtaken by compassion, informed him directly, “Your wife is discussing divorce matters with a lawyer, she’s insisting on divorcing you.”

There was silence for a long time on the other end before the response, “So are you making this call to mock me, or to help me strategize?”

“Neither,” Chu Shuo looked back inside, “I’m just giving you a heads-up. Her attitude towards the divorce is very firm; even if you come back, it wouldn’t help.”
