Luo Fei and his partner quickly arrived at the bus station and checked the passenger records for Ningjiang County in the past two days, but did not find Lin Gang and Cao Dong.
They left the bus station.
"Team leader, where do you think Lin Gang and Cao Dong could have gone?" Sun Jun asked Luo Fei, who was about to say he didn’t know, when he received Wang Yong’s call.
"Team leader, we saw Lin Gang and Cao Dong. They just entered Sun District," Wang Yong said urgently over the phone.
"You and Zhaocheng keep an eye on the entrance. Sun Jun and I will be there immediately." Luo Fei hung up after speaking, quickly got in the car, and drove towards Sun District.
It wasn’t long before they arrived at Sun District.
"Team leader, Lin Gang and Cao Dong just went in not long ago," Wang Yong said as he walked over.
"Okay, Wang Yong, you and Zhaocheng keep watching the entrance to prevent Lin Gang and Cao Dong from escaping when we go up. Sun Jun, we’ll go up," Luo Fei instructed.
"Yes,"
Leaving Wang Yong and Zhaocheng, Luo Fei took Sun Jun into the district.
Lin Gang is in Building 10, Room 223, and Cao Dong is in Building 8, Room 936.
Luo Fei and Sun Jun went to find Lin Gang first.
They arrived at Room 223’s door, and Luo Fei pressed the doorbell.
"Coming," said a middle-aged woman’s voice.
Then the door opened, and a woman in her fifties came out, asking, "Who are you? What do you want?"
"We’re from the criminal investigation team. Is Lin Gang here? We have some questions for him." Luo Fei showed his badge as he replied.
Upon hearing they were from the criminal investigation team, the middle-aged woman looked nervous.
"Officer, did Lin Gang do something wrong?" the middle-aged woman asked.
"We just want to ask Lin Gang some questions. Is he home?" Luo Fei didn’t want to waste time talking too much with the middle-aged woman to avoid any unnecessary incidents.
"He just got back; he’s home," the middle-aged woman replied.
Luo Fei and Sun Jun followed the middle-aged woman into the house.
"Lin Gang, come out quickly, the officers want to ask you some questions," the middle-aged woman called towards the closed bedroom door.
But after calling for a while, there was no response inside.
The middle-aged woman knocked on the bedroom door, but still no response.
Luo Fei realized something was wrong and immediately stepped forward, twisted the doorknob, but the bedroom door was locked from the inside. Without hesitation, Luo Fei kicked the door.
With a "bang," the bedroom door flew open from Luo Fei’s kick.
Luo Fei immediately rushed into the room. The first thing he noticed was that the window by the bedroom balcony was open. Luo Fei quickly strode over and found a bedsheet tied to the balcony railing. It was clear that Lin Gang, realizing something was wrong, had escaped.
"Call Wang Yong and Zhaocheng and tell them Lin Gang has run, instruct them to watch people exiting the district carefully," Luo Fei said to Sun Jun as he returned to the bedroom. At the same time, he picked up a piece of clothing hanging on the bedroom clothes rack and sniffed it slightly. The smell was the same as at the crime scene, confirming Lin Gang’s presence there; he was likely the suspect who killed the victim in the room.
Upon hearing this, Sun Jun immediately took out his phone to call Wang Yong.
"Officer, what happened? What’s wrong with Lin Gang in our family?" the middle-aged woman asked, her face pale and almost in tears.
Luo Fei didn’t have time to answer the middle-aged woman. He confirmed Lin Gang’s scent, quickly went to the balcony, flipped over, and grabbed the bedsheet, sliding down to the ground floor. He followed the lingering scent of Lin Gang in the air.
After a while, Luo Fei discovered that Lin Gang was somewhat clever, as he didn’t escape directly from the district entrance but climbed over the iron fence at the back of the district.
Luo Fei also climbed over the fence. Lin Gang was no longer in sight, and Luo Fei frowned. Although his sense of smell was very strong, if Lin Gang had taken a taxi, the scent molecules on him would only spread inside the car, making it difficult for Luo Fei to track him.
Thankfully, Luo Fei found that Lin Gang hadn’t run towards the highway but instead headed onto the back roads behind the district toward the back mountain. With this, Luo Fei felt assured, instantly increasing his speed to the maximum and followed the path.
Within two minutes, Luo Fei spotted Lin Gang running on the uphill path far ahead, the thick black aura on Lin Gang’s head and his savage nature were very apparent.
At this moment, Lin Gang was panting heavily, holding a bag in his hand. He stopped, bent over, and gasped for air while glancing backward to see if anyone was following him, only to spot a figure racing toward him at full speed.
Lin Gang was startled and, without taking a break, immediately started running again. But after a while, he couldn’t run anymore because the uphill path, though not long, was particularly exhausting. When Lin Gang turned his head back again, he found the pursuer was about to catch up.
Realizing he couldn’t outrun this person, and seeing that there seemed to be only this one person chasing him, Lin Gang’s face showed a hint of viciousness. He stopped, turned around, and quietly waited for the figure to approach.
Luo Fei noticed Lin Gang’s behavior and the vicious look on his face. With Luo Fei’s current vision, every movement and expression of Lin Gang was crystal clear to him.
Anticipating Lin Gang’s intentions, Luo Fei sneered. With his current skill level, Lin Gang’s desperation was nothing to worry about.
As Luo Fei was about to catch up to Lin Gang, Lin Gang suddenly displayed a fierce expression, then swiftly drew a dagger from his lower back and lunged at Luo Fei.
"Damn you, die!" Lin Gang shouted.
But his movements seemed slow in Luo Fei’s eyes.
Almost instantly, Luo Fei grabbed Lin Gang’s wrist holding the knife and applied a slight force.

The dagger fell from Lin Gang’s hand to the ground, accompanied by a piercing scream from Lin Gang’s mouth.

"Okay," Luo Fei nodded, and then said to Wang Yong, "I handcuffed Lin Gang in the car when I came over. Go and watch him; don’t let anything happen to him."
"Yes," Wang Yong replied.
"This guy is clever, though. Who would have thought he didn’t escape through the front entrance but climbed over the iron fence?" Sun Jun said, surprised.
Luo Fei calmly responded, "Wang Yong and Zhaocheng must have exposed themselves. Lin Gang escaped from the fence before we even went upstairs; otherwise, he couldn’t have gotten that far."
"That must be it; otherwise, Lin Gang wouldn’t need to scale the fence when he could have simply run out the front door," Sun Jun nodded in agreement.
"Let’s go up!" Luo Fei said.
Soon, Luo Fei, Sun Jun, and Zhaocheng arrived at Building 8, Room 936, and smoothly found Cao Dong. Luo Fei quickly concluded that Cao Dong was not the killer since there was no trace of black aura above his head.
