Chapter 83: Chapter 82: Perfect Scores in All Subjects, Suspected of Cheating
The office fell silent in an instant, every face wearing an incredulous expression.
A moment passed.
Finally, someone broke the silence.
"Could you have made a mistake?"
The teacher responsible for grading the papers glared, "How could I make a mistake? Her name is right there on the paper."
Everyone heard this and found themselves in a swirl of complex emotions.
If it were someone at the top of the grade, it would make sense, but why is it the very last?
Someone, seemingly out of nowhere, suddenly suggested, "Why don’t you put the paper aside for a while, and we’ll discuss it after everyone finishes grading their own papers."
"I agree with William, let’s finish the grading first, everyone!"
A few looked at each other, their feelings mixed, and returned to their seats to grade papers quietly.
"I’ve got a perfect score here too," William James saw the math paper in his hand. He hadn’t even been happy for a second before he saw the name and instantly didn’t know what expression to make.
As soon as he finished speaking.
It was like flipping some switch; consequently, other subject teachers also started saying the same thing.
When all the perfect score papers were put together and the teachers saw the same name, they didn’t know whether to be angry or relieved.
"What is going on here?" asked one middle-aged man, rubbing his forehead, "Claire Green getting full marks is as shocking as the sun rising from the west."
"Given her usual performance, there must be something wrong with this perfect score," the woman next to him said with a skeptical, serious look.
William James made a noise of surprise, "No need to be hasty, Ms. Gao. Claire Green usually doesn’t even properly fill out her test papers."
The woman snorted, "What, Mr. Jiang, do you really think she got perfect scores for real?"
"I didn’t say that," William replied calmly, "I just think as a teacher we shouldn’t doubt any student."
"You..." the woman glared at him in anger.
Seeing that the two were about to argue, several people nearby quickly intervened to smooth things over.
"You both have a point; there’s no need to argue."
"Indeed, if not, we’ll just have Claire Green come around tomorrow."
"Alright."
...
The next day.
Rae Zander and Olivia Song walked into the classroom under the watchful eyes of their classmates, everyone’s expressions varied.
Suddenly, a girl spoke up.
"Rae, how do you think you did on the exam?"
Rae Zander replied haughtily, "Same as always."
As soon as she said it.
The class erupted in whispers.
Seems like Claire Green has to apologize.
An intriguing thought indeed.
The girl sniffed, "Olivia probably did well too."
Olivia Song’s expression froze for a few seconds before she softly said, "The results aren’t out yet, so it’s hard to say."
Whether it’s hard to say or not ideal results, the eyes in the class looking at her changed.
Rae Zander impatiently spoke, "Why so concerned, just wait for the results to come out."
As the two sat back down, the girl made a sound with a hint of malice in her eyes.
...
"The bell’s been ringing for a while, why hasn’t Grace come yet?"
Sebastian Winn looked at the podium, filled with confusion.
"You’re being stupid, the midterm exams just ended, Grace is probably getting the papers and the grade report,"
John Sinclair lightly patted Sebastian Winn’s back, finding it a bit amusing.
The school’s odd rule was that neither midterm nor final exam papers could be graded by class teachers; they had to be handed to professional graders.
Who knows what’s up with that!
Just then.
Grace Carter walked into the classroom with a serious look, sternly called out, "Claire Green, come with me for a moment."
Everyone’s eyes instantly focused back there.
"Claire, Grace’s expression doesn’t look right, did you get into trouble again?" John Sinclair asked quietly.
Claire Green remained indifferent, casually standing up, "Get lost, Grace is going to present me with an award."
Watching her walk away like a boss, John Sinclair clicked his tongue.
Don’t you feel any guilt saying that?
With that grim expression on Grace’s face, does she look like she’s going to award you?
"John, what did Claire just say?"
Sebastian Winn only saw their lips move and couldn’t help asking.
John Sinclair repeated the conversation word for word to the two in the front row, and as he thought, both Sebastian Winn and Isabella Xyler had a hard-to-describe look.
...
"Claire Green, do you know why I’ve called you?"
The corridor was deserted, as Grace Carter walked with Claire Green at a steady pace.
"To present an award," Claire Green, hands casually shoved in her pocket, holding her phone in one hand, replied carelessly.
Grace paused, giving her a helpless look, "You have quite the imagination. Did you know the midterm exam results are out?"
"I know, so what?" Claire Green playfully curled her lip, speaking in a low, slow manner.
Seeing this.
Grace suddenly felt a headache coming on; she had said this much, yet the girl didn’t give any reaction.
"Your results puzzled the grading teachers a bit," Grace thought for a moment about how to phrase it, tactfully advising.
Hearing this.
Claire Green raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a playful smile, "Thinking I cheated, that’s a first."
"So, tell me the truth, did you cheat or not?"
"Those questions were worth cheating on?" Claire Green laughed arrogantly.
Grace: "..."
What did all that sarcasm mean?
...
The two walked all the way to the principal’s office and pushed the door open, Claire Green chuckled.
Feels like a tribunal.
"No wonder it was perfect scores across all subjects," Lia Zeller said sarcastically, "You sure are grand, making so many teachers wait for you."
"If Ms. Zhang is envious, that’s fine too," Claire Green coolly glanced over, ignoring the others while finding a seat to sit down.
The teachers who couldn’t help but laugh were amused, although Claire Green’s scores needed verification, her personality sure was unique.
What did "being envious is fine" mean, was she asking Lia to achieve perfect scores in all subjects too?
Everyone present were teachers, but even they haven’t reached perfection in all subjects, so wasn’t that a bit unreasonable?
As she sat down, Lia Zeller became furious, "Lacking discipline, with so many teachers standing, do you think it’s okay to sit there?"
Claire Green, with annoyance between her brows and a cold light in her eyes, gave a cool, thin smile, "A chair is meant for sitting; or do chairs in your house serve as altars?"
Just as she finished speaking.
Everyone in the principal’s office couldn’t help but burst out laughing; what she said was truly damning.
Looking at the scene before her, Lia Zeller’s face turned red with anger, "Sharp-tongued! Hurry up and tell us how you cheated."
Everyone hearing this instantly pulled back their laughs and put on serious expressions.
William James’s booming voice sounded, "Claire, we all know your usual grades aren’t anything to boast about, but getting perfect scores all of a sudden is hard to understand."
"No need to beat around the bush, cheating—provide me with the evidence," Claire Green said, crossing her legs, her tone cold and mischievous.
William James was momentarily stunned.
These exam papers were all prepared just the night before the test, so theoretically, there’s no way they were leaked, so there really wasn’t any evidence.
"Who knows what kind of shady method you used to get the questions beforehand," Lia Zeller said with utter disdain; she simply couldn’t believe such a slacker could achieve great grades.
Principal Thomas Ziegler carefully glanced at the girl seated, as if testing the waters, "Then let’s have the teachers come up with a few more test papers so she can solve them in front of us. If she gets them all right, then there’s no issue with her scores."
The teachers pondered for a moment, eventually finding this to be a good idea and began preparing immediately.
While preparing the questions, Lia Zeller maliciously thought, "All these questions are college-level; let’s see how she handles them."
Before long.
The freshly prepared test papers were neatly placed in front of Claire Green.
Claire Green looked down, glanced at them, and let out a soft laugh.
They truly have high regard for me.
Then, she leisurely picked up a pen and started writing.
