Chapter 46 A Night Together

Inside the tent, Lan Yan packed away her medical kit and looked around. There was a problem: there was only one bed. Where would she sleep tonight?

Jun Yelan followed Lan Yan's gaze, his eyes also falling on the bed. He and Lan Yan had stayed in the same room before, but that had been with two separate beds.

Lan Yan said, "I think there isn't enough space here. Perhaps I should sleep in my own quarters." She took a step to the side.

"If you don't stay here, I'll send you out of the military camp." This was non-negotiable for Jun Yelan.

Lan Yan drooped her head, nodded, and said, "Alright. But how are we going to sleep tonight?" Seeing Jun Yelan look at her, she quickly covered her chest and exclaimed, "You don't mean you want to sleep with me, do you!"

Had their relationship really reached that point?

Jun Yelan really wanted to know what was always on Lan Yan's mind. Even if he had such thoughts, he would have to formally propose and marry Lan Yan before he could act on them.

He cherished Lan Yan and naturally wouldn't treat her carelessly. "You sleep in the bed. I have my own arrangements for tonight."

"What arrangements?" Lan Yan saw that Jun Yelan wasn't going to answer and sat down on the bed. She propped up her head, intending to wait for Jun Yelan, but her eyelids were already getting heavy.

She lay down and murmured, "I'll just lie down for a bit." With that, she had already drifted off to sleep.

Listening to the steady breathing beside her, Jun Yelan's lips curved upwards. He sat on the edge of the bed. He reached out and flicked Lan Yan's forehead, saying, "It's so good that you appeared."

Lan Yan showed no reaction.

Jun Yelan took Lan Yan's hand, which was hanging outside the covers, and tucked it back in. He saw Lan Yan shiver and touched the bedding, finding it still cold. He was accustomed to this temperature, but Lan Yan was not.

He then went to boil hot water, filling a hot water bottle. His hands immediately turned red. He paid no mind to it, placing the bottle at Lan Yan's feet. Seeing that she was sleeping soundly, he felt at ease.

The weather was getting colder, and this war would not end anytime soon. He worried that Lan Yan would feel increasingly cold and thought about going to the back mountain to hunt a few wild beasts and skin them to make fur for Lan Yan.

"An Yi, come out."

A black shadow immediately appeared behind him and stood respectfully. He saw Jun Yelan cherishing someone so dearly, and then looked at that person's face – wasn't this his mistress!

Wow, his mistress had actually come!

Jun Yelan instructed, "From now on, you will follow her closely. If anything happens to her, you don't need to appear. I have something to attend to outside. You must guard her tonight."

He cast a cold gaze that made An Yi lower his head.

An Yi called out, "Yes, Master." He immediately drew his sword and stood guard beside the tent.

Jun Yelan then went to the back mountain, his eyes darkening as he heard the wolf howls from the area.

The next morning, Lan Yan opened her eyes and smelled a strong scent of blood. Worried that Jun Yelan was injured, she hurried to find him. "Jun..."

Jun Yelan entered from the doorway, still carrying a faint moisture. He looked at Lan Yan and said, "I have to go out. You stay here during the day, don't wander around or look too much, and don't trust people easily."

"I'll remember it all." Lan Yan sniffed the air, trying to locate the source of the smell. Her gaze fell upon the fur in the corner, and she asked, "This wasn't here last night. When did you get it?"

Jun Yelan's eyes flickered. "It's prey I hunted this morning. I've already instructed the kitchen to cook it. This fur has been cleaned; you can have it made into a fox fur coat."

Lan Yan walked over curiously. This didn't look like it was hunted this morning! She shifted her gaze and fixed it on Jun Yelan.

Jun Yelan found it difficult to remain any longer. He cleared his throat twice and said, "I'm leaving." As he descended the mountain, he saw his blood-stained clothes and thought of seeing Lan Yan, so he went to the river for a bath.

He didn't want Lan Yan to see his bloodthirsty side.

Seeing him truly leave, Lan Yan called out to his retreating back, "Jun Yelan, be careful. I'll wait here for your return." After speaking, she saw Jun Yelan's body tremble before he left.

She also went to the military doctor's office. As soon as she walked in, she saw the strange looks from Uncle Nie Qing and his nephew.

"I heard you stayed in the General's quarters all night," Nie Qing muttered. "The General doesn't seem like that kind of person."

Lan Yan: "...Do you two have some misunderstanding?"

Nie Qing approached Lan Yan and said solemnly, "Xiao Yan, you have a husband. You need to make things clear with the General. Although I don't know why the General is like this, he won't blame you if you explain."

"He's not an unreasonable person."

Lan Yan was confused and felt things were getting increasingly strange. "Doctor Nie, I don't know what you're talking about. I stayed overnight in the General's room, but I slept alone. I was just taking care of the General's health!"

However, after she spoke, the two men in front of her looked disbelieving.

Nie Qing said, "The General has never allowed anyone to get close, let alone stay overnight in his room! And last night, after that deputy general came out of the tent, he wasn't himself and even asked me if I had any medicine for amnesia."

"I was truly startled then. What did he see!"

Lan Yan: "..." It was impossible to explain! "Doctor Nie, I don't know either. I'm just diligently treating the General. Alright, let's go see the patient."

She quickly slipped away, realizing how terrifying gossip was.

Nie Qing was still talking to Nie Yu, "Xiao Yan is definitely hiding something from us, and it's related to the General."

Lan Yan instantly stopped wanting to talk and focused on her work.

Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Jun Yelan had once again defeated the Crown Prince's forces and returned.

The Crown Prince, on his high platform, was so enraged he vomited blood and was carried away. He overturned everything nearby and angrily said, "Isn't there any way to deal with Jun Yelan! Wasn't there supposed to be a divine arrow! Why hasn't it arrived yet?"

"Your Highness, that divine arrow has not been completed yet and requires time," a nearby guard said. "You could think of other methods." He produced a letter, sent from the human realm.

The Crown Prince opened it and read: "Lan Yan is missing." The letter was signed by Liu Tingting. He recalled Du Yin's death and realized that this Lan Yan held unusual significance for Jun Yelan.

The guard continued, "Our spies near Jun Yelan report that Jun Yelan has been very attentive to a young doctor recently. And that young doctor is very frail."

"It seems Jun Yelan also has a weakness!" The Crown Prince's lips curled into a smug smile. "Tell the spies to kill the person and give Jun Yelan a grand gift."

If Jun Yelan dared to kill his capable subordinate, he would kill the woman Jun Yelan loved! "Haha, Jun Yelan, you can never defeat me!"

He loved seeing Jun Yelan fall into despair!

The guard left to notify the distant spies.

Upon receiving the order, the spy secretly left his patrol area and headed towards Jun Yelan's tent. He peered inside and saw that Lan Yan was alone. Glancing around, he slowly walked in.
