Chapter 586: Five Ji Gods
“Was it Xi God who died?” Gao Ming could still sense the presence of joy.
“I don’t think so.” Fu Shu shook his head. “Something big has happened in Dream Break Town. We should hurry back. Your friend has probably been sent back to the Xi Residence by Madam Xi.”
“Wait a while longer.” Gao Ming smiled sadly. His injury was too severe. Despite the God of Flesh and Blood’s strong healing power, he needed to rest.
“A God has fallen even though it is only San Geng. Things are really changing this time.” Fu Shu was thankful that he had been saved by Gao Ming, or else he would have perished in the fight. After all, he knew too many secrets. Fu Shu glanced at Gao Ming and eventually decided to say something, “Gao Ming, if you really want to become an Unmentionable, there is something at the ancestral hall that you need to get.”
“What is it?”
“I can’t describe it. I only know that the thing has accepted a lot of worship and has obtained sentience.” Fu Shu couldn’t give a clear description. He had no limbs, so he couldn’t use his hands to shape it.
“Okay. I’ll go take a look.” Gao Ming treated Fu Shu a lot better. After he was caught in the Xi God’s nightmare, Fu Shu had been calling him. This loyalty surprised Gao Ming.
With the energy from the God of Flesh and Blood, the wounds healed rapidly. Half an hour later, Gao Ming climbed up from the ground. The Blood City tattoo stopped hiding under the skin. It was clearly carved on his body. Gao Ming appeared to carry the weight of a whole city. Despair and pain surrounded him, but pity coloured his eyes.
On Fu Shu’s suggestion, Gao Ming searched the temple. He fed the abandoned nightmares to the giant tree. The way Gao Ming fed the tree impressed Fu Shu. While the wounds on his stomach hadn’t closed, Gao Ming shoved the wedding invitations into his body as if asking his internal organs to join the feast. The flesh tree needed time to digest the nightmares. The undigested invitations were enveloped by the branches and hid inside Gao Ming’s body.
“You are insane.” Fu Shu slowly got used to Gao Ming’s antics. The two didn’t give the Xi God any opportunity to survive. After all the nightmares had been swept away, they left the temple.
“Madam Xi is injured. Based on the footprints, they escaped to Dream Break Town.” Gao Ming carried Fu Shu. He moved with the help of a stick. Blood leaked out of the wounds on his chest and stomach.
After they entered the forest, the traces of Madam Xi lightened. Gao Ming was about to ask the God of Flesh and Blood for direction when a veiled figure appeared before them. The branches shielded her from sight. If not for Gao Ming’s sharp senses, he wouldn’t have discovered her.
“Over there!” Gao Ming chopped off the branches that blocked the way. The veiled figure turned and ran. Gao Ming gave chase despite his injuries. The figure started to slow down, knowing that she couldn’t escape.
Gao Ming knocked over a dead tree. The figure that entered his gaze was not a weak bride but a figure over three-metre tall that was covered in brown hair!
The figure mimicked human actions. It had a tattered red veil on its head. It seemed to be waiting for Gao Ming. “Husband! You’re finally here!” A horrible voice came from the furry body. The leaves fell. The monster turned around. It had an ugly face that was half-human and half-bear. Bloody meat and clothes hung from its jaws.
“Human-bear?!” Fu Shu gasped.
“Did it eat Madam Xi?” Gao Ming glanced at the red veil.
“Unlikely.”
“Good.” Gao Ming gripped the butcher’s knife. He didn’t look like he’d retreat. The blood in his eyes resonated with the blood city tattoo on his body. The air of despair threatened to overflow.
“It looks like you are not… my husband.” The bear looked at Gao Ming. It slowly raised its large paw. It didn’t attack Gao Ming but pointed at the other side of the forest.
“What is it doing?” Gao Ming was ready to fight to the death, but the monster made a strange decision.
“Human-bears are extremely cunning. They will use various methods to trick their prey. They also like to feast on live prey.” Fu Shu warned Gao Ming to be careful.
Hearing that, the bear dropped the red veil. It cowered and pointed down the forest on the left. It opened its mouth, “There. Bride. There.”
“Don’t trust it. It could be a trap.” Fu Shu and Gao Ming were careful. The bear kept trying to speak. It repeated the few words it knew and slowly retreated.
“Is it scared of me?” Gao Ming just destroyed the Xi Temple and injured the Water Dragon King. Even though he was covered in wounds, his wounds contained the Water Dragon King and Xi God’s blood. The human-bear sensed danger in him.
“Can they even feel fear?” Fu Shu was confused. The human-bear said nothing and continued to lead the way. When Gao Ming wasn’t looking, it disappeared into the forest.
“Compared to when I first arrived at Dream Break Town, I’ve changed tremendously.” Gao Ming carried Fu Shu and followed the human-bear’s direction to leave the forest.
From a distance, Gao Ming saw the fire that lit up Dream Break Town and bloody auras that shot into the sky.
“This is bad. The thirteen Gods in town have made their move!” Fu Shu trembled. It was unclear whether it was due to excitement or fear. “Tonight is our chance! They’re in the open, and we’re in the shadow!”
Fu Shu looked around as they stepped on the path back to town. The sound of clapping and crying intensified. Death and joy were seriously out of balance.
“I think I know which God has died.”
“Which one?” Gao Ming was curious.
“Zhang Mingli’s conscience is with the Ji Gods, so it should be one of the Ji Gods who died. I believe it’s Cai Xing.” Fu Shu explained, “Haven’t you noticed the lack of paper money along the way? Paper money appears to have disappeared from Dream Break Town.”
“The Ji God, Cai Xing, controls Dream Break Town’s paper money?” Gao Ming didn’t get it.
“Dream Break Town was built using the Unmentionable’s fate chart. The Ji Gods in town represent the Unmentionable’s fate’s tribulations. There are five of them.” Fu Shu said, “Cai Xing is stingy and greedy; Yin Xing is ill and barely conscious; Guan Sha is paranoid; Bi Jie is brutal and wrathful; Shi Shang is arrogant and rebellious. The five Ji Gods form the tragedy. It also forms a balance against the Xi God. I feared that Xi God’s weakness would cause the Ji Gods to lose control. However, it looks like Zhang Mingli has chosen the Ji Gods as his first targets.”
