Chapter 183: Berserk

Chapter 183: Berserk

The clash tore the city in half.

Gold and black writhed against each other, two storms locked together, tearing stone and sky alike. The golden fire pressed harder, brighter, an endless tide. Lucy’s black torrent cut through it, wild, jagged, burning in fits and bursts that even she could not predict.

Her arms trembled. Her knees shook. Blood streamed from her mouth. Her body screamed for her to stop.

But the markings pulsed harder.

Her horn split with light, the glow cracking into the night. Her violet eyes widened, then sharpened, then glazed—like something behind them snapped loose.

The black fire didn’t crawl anymore. It exploded.

The torrent surged past her blade, past her control. It swallowed the golden fire whole, chewed through it, and kept going.

The Dragon King staggered back, his wings curling around him as the black storm tore into his chest. Scales ripped away in sheets, golden blood pouring out. His roar broke the air, deep and ragged.

Lucy stood in the center of it, her body trembling, but her grip tight. Her mouth opened in a scream that was not entirely human. Her voice cracked raw, layered with something deeper, older.

The markings on her skin spread further, crawling down her legs, across her face, up to the horn that pulsed like a heart. Her aura swelled, jagged and violent, spilling too much for her body to contain.

Karl’s grin faded. His broken jaw clenched. "...What the hell is this?"

Kaelis’s eyes narrowed, his vast head tilting as he shielded Lucian tighter with his wings. His voice rolled deep, low. "Not hers anymore."

The Dragon King staggered forward. His chest heaved, blood spilling from deep gashes burned by black fire. His golden scales peeled away, melted at the edges. His roar cracked, pain shaking through it. For the first time, his steps faltered.

Lucy’s gaze snapped toward him. Her eyes weren’t violet anymore—they were blank, hollow light.

She moved.

Too fast. Too violent.

Her blade carved through his foreleg before his body could even brace. Black fire erupted in the wound, eating through scale and bone. The Dragon King howled, his massive body thrashing, knocking towers into rubble.

She leapt, markings blazing, her blade dragging a black crescent across his chest. The strike cleaved deeper than before, splitting him open. Golden blood rained down, hissing into the stone, flooding the streets.

Karl pushed himself upright, scales cracked, but his eyes sharp with disbelief. "She’s... killing him."

Kaelis rumbled low, not amused now. His eyes stayed fixed on Lucy. "She doesn’t see him. She doesn’t see anything."

Lucy roared again, her voice tearing her throat raw, her blade moving faster than her body should allow. Every strike landed. Every slash carved. Black fire didn’t stop where her blade ended—it erupted outward, explosions tearing chunks from the Dragon King’s body.

His golden wings shattered under one swing, torn apart mid-beat. His tail lashed in desperation, but she cut through it, black fire devouring the scales. He collapsed, his massive body shaking the city as he crashed into the ruins.

His chest heaved, his head lifted weakly, his golden eyes dimming under blood and flame. For the first time, the Dragon King looked broken.

Lucy didn’t stop.

Her markings pulsed brighter, the horn cracking under the force. Her eyes stayed blank, her body moving like a puppet to something far older. Her blade stabbed again, and again, black fire bursting through his body until the avenue was nothing but light and smoke.

Karl staggered forward, coughing blood. "Lucy! Enough!"

Her head snapped toward him.

For a moment, her blank eyes locked on his molten-red ones. His chest tightened.

There was no recognition.

Only bloodlust.

Her aura flared harder, black fire spilling jagged arcs around her. She took a step toward him, her grip tight on her sword.

Karl froze, his grin gone, his claws flexing. "...Damn it."

Kaelis lowered his massive head, his wings tightening over Lucian’s limp body. His eyes narrowed, his voice cold. "She’ll burn everything. Friend or foe."

Lucy roared again, stepping closer, her aura surging in chaotic bursts. The black fire lashed outward, burning through rubble, erasing what was left of the avenue.

Behind her, the Dragon King’s body twitched once. His massive chest split open, golden blood still spilling. His breath rattled, broken, fading.

He was dying.

Not by Karl’s claws. Not by Kaelis’s fire.

By her.

Lucy stepped forward again, her markings flaring brighter, her horn cracked at the edges. Her sword dragged across the ground, sparks trailing behind her. Her blank eyes locked on Karl now, her aura hungry.

Karl clenched his claws, fire snarling across his broken body. "Shit. She’s gone berserk."

Kaelis rumbled, his voice sharp and final. "If you don’t stop her, she’ll kill you too."

Lucy screamed, black fire erupting upward, splitting the night in jagged streaks. Her body moved fast, too fast, her blade swinging for Karl before he could brace.

He caught it with his claws. The impact ripped him backward, his scales shattering under the strike. His blood sprayed, his arms splitting under the force.

Her next swing followed instantly, sharper, heavier, almost instinctive.

Karl roared, his wings flaring, his flames bursting wide to block. The clash cracked the air, fire and black colliding until the ruins shook again.

Lucy didn’t relent. She swung again, and again, her blade carving arcs that blurred in the night. Karl stumbled under the assault, blood pouring from new wounds.

Kaelis’s wings shifted, shielding Lucian tighter, his eyes locked on the duel. His voice rumbled low, like judgment. "She’s not fighting. She’s consuming everything in her path."

The black fire rose higher, wild and merciless, spilling from Lucy’s blade, her body, even the cracks in her horn. She moved like a storm without thought, every swing tearing closer to Karl’s chest.

And still, her blank eyes held no recognition.

Only hunger.

Only blood.
