Chapter 182: Overwhelming Power

Chapter 182: Overwhelming Power

The capital shook as their clash tore through its bones. Gold and black streaked across broken towers, ripping the night apart.

Lucy’s blade trembled in her hands, the markings on her arms crawling brighter with each swing. Her breath came sharp, uneven, her chest burning as the new power raged inside her like it wanted to tear free from her body. Every strike she landed carried more force than she meant, every movement heavier, sharper—barely hers at all.

The Dragon King’s fists hammered back, gold crashing against black. Each blow was cleaner, steadier, the weight of centuries behind them. Lucy pressed harder, but her sword arm twitched, her fire sputtered mid-swing, sparks breaking her rhythm.

The King’s eyes narrowed, a sneer flashing across his blood-streaked face. "Unstable." His fist drove into her gut before she could block.

The air left her lungs in a rush. She folded, body smashing into the street, stone cracking under her. The markings flared in pain, her horn burning hot against her skull.

She gasped, coughing blood, but forced her knees under her. Her eyes burned violet again. "I... won’t stop."

She lifted her sword.

The King growled low, the sound rumbling through the ruins. His aura swelled higher, golden sparks rising from his skin until the light drowned half the city. Then his body shifted.

Bones cracked. Scales burst from his arms. His skin tore open to reveal glimmering armor beneath. His neck stretched long, his jaw splitting, fangs spilling over his lips. His roar ripped the sky as his body surged higher, twisting, unfurling until the streets collapsed beneath his weight.

The Dragon King stood now in his truest form—an immense golden dragon, his body larger than towers, wings blotting out the fires below. Every breath spilled molten light, every movement bent the air.

Kaelis raised his head from where he shielded Lucian. His slitted eyes narrowed, then he let out a deep, amused rumble. "So small."

The golden dragon froze mid-snarl, his eyes snapping toward Kaelis. For the briefest moment, hesitation flickered across him, the insult landing like a spear.

Lucy pushed herself up again, gripping her sword with trembling hands. The markings across her body pulsed out of rhythm now, surging too fast, spilling energy she couldn’t hold. Her black fire burned in jagged bursts, eating away at her aura as much as her enemy’s.

The golden dragon lunged. His claws swept down like collapsing towers.

Lucy raised her blade, markings screaming, horn glowing so bright it cracked. Her black fire surged upward, cleaving the claw aside. The impact hurled her back, her feet tearing trenches through the stone, her arms shaking from the force.

Before she could steady, the dragon’s tail lashed. She ducked, too late. The impact caught her side, ripping through her ribs, flinging her across the avenue. She crashed through broken walls, her sword nearly flying from her grip.

She spat blood, vision spinning, her body trembling. Her aura flared without her will now, black fire spilling in chaotic bursts.

The dragon’s wings beat once, sending waves of golden fire rolling down. The heat seared everything, rubble melting, towers buckling. Lucy raised her blade again, markings burning so hot they carved smoke from her skin.

She slashed upward.

The fire split, black flame carving a path through the storm. The blast still flung her back, blood streaming from her nose, but she stood again, blade shaking in her grip.

Karl coughed in the rubble, his grin faint through the blood dripping down his jaw. "She’s... holding him."

The dragon roared, slamming both claws down. The avenue split wide, the ground shattering. Lucy darted forward, her legs trembling but her markings bursting with light. She dashed up the collapsing street, leaping into the air, her blade carving for his throat.

Her strike landed. Black fire ripped through scales, burning deep into his neck. Golden blood poured, steaming against the flames.

The dragon thrashed, his roar shaking the heavens. His tail whipped again, catching her mid-air. She smashed into the ground, her body folding against broken stone. Her sword clattered away.

She clawed at the dirt, coughing, her body screaming. Her horn flickered, the markings stuttering. The power inside her raged too wild, too much for her veins. Her hands shook as she reached for her blade.

The dragon’s head lowered, his jaws opening, golden fire building in his throat.

Kaelis’s eyes narrowed. He spread his wings wider over Lucian, shielding him from the coming storm, but did not move. His voice rumbled, sharp with amusement. "Pathetic. Even now, you’re smaller than me."

The golden dragon snarled, his fire sputtering as anger twisted his control. His wings flared wide, his aura spilling harder.

Lucy gripped her sword again, dragging herself upright. She planted her feet in the cracked stone, her violet eyes burning through blood and smoke. The markings along her skin pulsed one last time, brighter than ever, fusing with the black fire that crawled up her blade.

Her horn glowed, splitting the night with violet light.

The dragon exhaled, golden fire bursting down like a sun falling.

Lucy roared back, her blade slashing upward, black fire exploding in a torrent.

Gold and black collided, the sky itself tearing under the clash. Buildings ripped apart, streets melted, the capital split in two under the storm.

Lucy’s arms shook, blood poured from her mouth, her body crumbling under the force. Yet she stood, blade locked against the dragon’s breath, markings screaming across her skin.

The fire pressed harder, but so did she.

The balance hung by a thread.

Karl forced himself higher, watching through blurred eyes. Kaelis stood silent, his wings shielding Lucian, his gaze locked on the duel.

The golden dragon pushed, Lucy’s blade cracked, her body trembling. But her horn flared brighter, her violet eyes steady through the chaos.

She would not break.

Not while her brother still breathed behind her.
