Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Good Relationship Between Two Men
Once again, Matthias had to let his wife treat him so coldly. He was forced to continue his conversation with Ansel outside the room so as not to disturb his wife, who wanted to sleep. Ansel was also very shocked to see his ex-fiancée suddenly act cold just because of this unexpected incident. His entire body felt goosebumps, as he was not used to seeing a husband and wife arguing at a critical moment. He could only swallow nervously as he sat next to his friend outside the room.
"Matthias, it seems your wife is really angry. She’s never acted like this in front of me."
Matthias took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. "I’m actually confused about what she’s thinking right now. She’s not angry with me, but with herself. I told her it wasn’t her fault. But she’s just so stubborn."
"That’s why Victoria always looks strong in front of us, but in fact she is very weak. All this time she always hides her weakness so that we don’t worry too much about her."
"If only I had treated her better, she wouldn’t hate me like she does now."
"Matthias, your wife doesn’t hate you. I can see that her eyes are still sincere towards you. She just needs time and space to think."
Matthias stared at his overly wise friend, making him hate his friend even less. "So you’re the best at this kind of thing, too. You’re truly dependable."
"I certainly won’t let this matter slide. Even though Victoria is my ex-fiancée, I don’t want to marry her if she loves you so much. I don’t feel like I deserve to be a third wheel."
"This is what made me unable to hate you in the first place. Even though you used to provoke me, I knew it was really my wife’s wish."
Ansel patted Matthias’ shoulder reassuringly. "Then I’m even more comfortable working with you. If you want to save our relationship, I can help you. Especially since I know Amber is the mastermind behind all this chaos."
Matthias frowned. "Was Amber the culprit?"
"As her best friend, you should be very sensitive to her movements." Ansel lowered his head for a moment. "She once asked me to work with her to bring down Victoria."
"What? When did she talk to you?" Matthias crossed his arms. "Wait a minute! How does Amber know you? Were you friends before?"
"Actually, he and I only knew each other, but we weren’t close. I was definitely shocked to hear him suggest that I do something evil."
"But, do you agree to work with her?"
"Absolutely not. Even though it might seem like I’m being mean by not agreeing to your marriage, I don’t want to do it with evil."
"Even though you could get rid of me with an opportunity like this, why do you still let me live in peace?"
Ansel smiled faintly, looking at his friend with sincere eyes. "Because I like seeing my ex-fiancée happy because of you. If I married her, she wouldn’t have been able to smile as much as she does now. That’s why I won’t work with that snake woman."
"I like your decision." Matthias enthusiastically put his arm around his friend’s shoulder. "I think I really need you from now on. You’re reliable in this matter."
"Do you know why I’ve been talking to you all this time? Because I was so envious of you being able to do everything without anyone else’s help. But seeing you so down lately, I finally realized you’re just an ordinary human being like the rest of us."
"So, you think I’m an AI robot?" Matthias rolled his eyes. "I’m a normal human being with a conscience just like you guys."
"Matthias, it looks like your relationship will continue to be complicated like this if you don’t have someone to help you. I can especially help you track Amber down discreetly. I know you’re good friends, but I suggest you stay away from her."
"You weren’t the only one who warned me like that. Sawyer warned me before, too. It seems like it’s time for me to distance myself from her. Especially since I’ve been assuming Amber is the main culprit since my wife was involved in the cheating scandal and when she was crushed by a metal shelf on the construction site."
"Amber is the most dangerous woman in my opinion. Therefore, we must also use very dangerous methods."
Suddenly, a brilliant idea crossed his mind. He flashed a sarcastic smile at his best friend. "Ansel, would you mind helping me complete a rather difficult mission?"
"I will definitely help you. But what mission do you want to do?"
"It’s a very long story. What’s certain is that I had to sacrifice something to make this mission a success."
*****
The next day, Victoria didn’t want to let her husband stay with her all day at the hospital. Because today was a workday, she didn’t want to let him laze around in the hospital. Besides, she still didn’t want to see her husband’s face because she had made a big mistake. However, she didn’t really blame herself because when she went down the stairs, she felt like someone had deliberately tripped her. However, for her, it was impossible for Fransisca to be the perpetrator who tried to kill her. Because even though Fransisca looked evil in her eyes due to her mother’s upbringing, Fransisca would not have gone that far.
Suddenly, a young woman entered the room, making her stare widen. Victoria hadn’t expected her stepsister to take the initiative to visit her, even though no one had told her which hospital she was in.
"By the way, can I talk to you for a moment?" Fransisca asked nervously, holding a bouquet of roses.
Victoria nodded nervously. "You can sit in that chair." She pointed to an empty chair next to the bed.
Fransisca took the empty chair and looked at her older sister with pity. "Actually, I was so shocked by what happened yesterday that I almost fainted. You lost a lot of blood, even though you only fell down the stairs." Her eyes narrowed. "Are you pregnant?"
