Chapter 141: Stupid Wife

Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Stupid Wife

Once again, his wife’s hurtful words shattered his heart. Even though the accident wasn’t entirely her fault, she continued to blame herself. Matthias still refused to let go of his wife, even though his mother kept telling him to break up. Because he was the one who needed to end this mess, not by ending his relationship with his wife. Even though his mother had once said that they were not meant to be together because both families had signed a deal that was very detrimental to them.

"I don’t care what you say. I still won’t let you go!" Matthias snapped, tightening his grip on her.

"Matthias... all the problems that happened to you must have something to do with me, didn’t you know all this time?"

"In fact, the problem arose not because of you, but because they were jealous because our relationship was too harmonious."

"I’ve worked so hard to care for our baby so he can be born healthy. I was so reckless in handling this matter. I’ve failed as a good mother and wife." Victoria turned away from her husband. "I don’t want to see your face."

"Please, Victoria! I don’t want us to break up over this. If it’s about having kids, we can have them again. I’m not scolding you. In fact, I’m really worried about you."

"Are you worried about me?"

"My number one concern when you and our baby were in danger was that you were safe. I cared more about you because if you weren’t saved, I would have lost the two people I love most."

Hearing her husband’s firm words, but his voice also trembling slightly, Victoria pursed her lips. She still cared for him even at a time like this. Shouldn’t she be acting so cold towards him? In the end, she decided to turn around and touch his hand again.

"I still don’t care what you said earlier. What’s certain is that this incident was entirely my fault. I have no right to be your wife."

"Victoria..."

"I want to rest first. You should accompany me here."

A sweet smile spread across his handsome face. "So, is this a sign that we won’t break up?"

"Matthias, right now I just need you to give me some space to think. It’s not that easy for me to get our relationship back together."

Matthias took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. "Okay, I’ll let you think about it a little more. You should consider what will happen to you if you don’t want to be my wife."

It was already late afternoon, and Matthias remained faithfully by his wife’s side, who was acting cold towards him. They had barely spoken since the devastating news about their baby. Even Victoria’s appetite had begun to wane, as her mind was still haunted by the accident she had experienced just hours earlier.

Matthias was still reluctant to speak to his wife, who still didn’t smile at him. If he acted rashly, it would only worsen their relationship.

At the same time, Ansel entered the room with a gloomy expression, startling Victoria. She immediately turned to greet her ex-fiancé, who looked extremely pale. Furthermore, her ex-fiancé suddenly kneeling before her made things even more awkward.

"Ansel, what’s wrong with you?"

"I’m sorry, Victoria. I should have been the one protecting you from the start."

"But why do you have to kneel before me? I didn’t ask you to kneel because you haven’t done anything wrong to me!"

"If only I had arrived earlier, I could have saved you."

Victoria ruffled her hair in annoyance as she stared at the two handsome men who were too innocent in her eyes. "You guys are really too much! This isn’t your fault, but why are you blaming yourselves?"

"Isn’t it more likely that you keep blaming yourself? I’m so sick of hearing you keep cursing yourself just because our baby didn’t survive!" Matthias snapped with a smirk.

Ansel raised his head slowly. "Victoria, if you want to hate me, that’s fine with me."

"Honestly, this isn’t your fault. It’s mine. As far as I remember, before I fell, I had a conversation with Fransisca."

Matthias furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait a minute! Did you have a chance to talk to her?"

"Yes, she invited me to talk because she was curious about our relationship. She also asked me why I broke up with Ansel."

Ansel rested his chin on his hand. "I checked the CCTV footage earlier. But there didn’t seem to be anything unusual during your conversation."

"If Fransisca had wanted to harm you, she shouldn’t have acted rashly. Especially not in such a public place and at such an important event," Matthias added.

"That’s why I don’t want to accuse her carelessly. Even though Fransisca and I aren’t particularly close, accusing her of being evil seems a bit excessive. Especially since she once told me she didn’t actually want all of my father’s wealth."

Ansel could only pace back and forth, thinking critically. "If we can connect the events from your father’s death to now, somehow I feel like they’re connected. But we have no other evidence to prove Fransisca caused your accident this afternoon."

"What’s certain is that I had a fight with Amber earlier."

Ansel’s eyes widened. "Was Amber at the party?"

Victoria nodded. "Fransisca invited her specifically because they’re friends."

This is what makes Matthias feel even more strange. As far as he knows, Amber has always lived abroad, yet now she’s hanging out with Fransisca. What exactly is the relationship between the two women?

"Fransisca is good friends with Amber? Did I hear that correctly?"

"At first, I didn’t believe it either. But when I saw them in person, their relationship seemed close."

"What a strange friendship," Matthias quipped, shaking his head.

"By the way, how long are you guys going to keep me here? I’m going to sleep now!" Victoria snapped, glaring at the two handsome men.

"But, actually, I still want to talk to you." Matthias’ lips pouted.

"Who said I was letting you accompany me now? I already said I want to be alone for a while!"
