Chapter 399: Apology in Vain

Chapter 399: Apology in Vain

Ye Feimo looked up at Cheng Anya and got to his feet. Cheng Anya thought Ye Feimo would go with her, but he went upstairs instead. It had been more than ten days, and he and Wen Nuan hadn’t said a word to each other.

Wen Nuan refused to see him, and he didn’t dare to see her.

He was afraid of her disgusted look. He finally understood how heartbroken Wen Nuan must have been when he said those horrible things.

Cheng Anya smiled. Ye Feimo had finally come around.

Wen Nuan’s mother was still very worried, but Cheng Anya said, "It’s okay. They have to face each other eventually. They can’t just avoid each other forever. It’s better to talk things through sooner rather than later."

Wen Nuan was looking at the lilies beside her. She heard the door open and thought it was her mother. She turned her head and saw Ye Feimo. Her eyes widened, and she quickly turned away. She had never seen Ye Feimo look so haggard and thin, as if something had broken him. Even his steps were cautious and nervous. Wen Nuan didn’t want to see him, just like that day when Ye Feimo said he never wanted to see her again.

Ye Feimo sat on the bed beside her and stared at her blankly. He finally dared to see her, and the guilt in his heart grew even stronger. If it weren’t for that impulsive push, he and she wouldn’t be in this state.

"I’m sorry!" He had so many things to say, but he didn’t know what to say to her right now. He couldn’t say anything but "I’m sorry," but a simple apology was too powerless.

Wen Nuan didn’t say anything. She just stared out the window, as if she had emptied her soul.

Ye Feimo wished that Wen Nuan would say something. He would rather see a look of disgust in her eyes than this cold indifference, as if they were strangers.

"It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have been impulsive. I shouldn’t have pushed you. I know that nothing I say now will make a difference. Wen Nuan, I’m truly sorry," Ye Feimo said hoarsely, trying desperately to get her to look at him.

He reached out to hold her hand, but as soon as he touched her, Wen Nuan pulled her hand back and covered herself with the blanket. Ye Feimo froze and slowly pulled his hand back. She wouldn’t even let him touch her, would she?

He must have disappointed her so much, right?

In his anger, he couldn’t be bothered to think about who was right or wrong.

In a fit of rage, he lost his mind and said so many horrible things, even saying she was not as good as Han Bi.

In his sadness and anger, he accidentally pushed her, which caused her to have a miscarriage and kill his own baby.

Every time he thought about it, he wished he could go back in time.

If he could turn back time, he would rather die than push her away.

If he had trusted her a little more, he would have come back from his drive and listened to her explanation. He would have investigated the matter first instead of immediately condemning her. If he had trusted her a little more, in another seven months, he would have been able to see his little princess being born.

The trust between him and her was so weak. It couldn’t even withstand a piece of paper or a lie.

If he hadn’t heard Fang Liucheng’s vague words on the phone, he might have trusted her more. No matter how much Ye Feimo regretted and hated himself, the tragedy had already happened and couldn’t be undone.

He had gotten everything without knowing it, and he had lost it all without a sound.

His baby...

He was the executioner.

Indifference was the greatest hurt between two lovers. It was like an uncrossable chasm had opened up between them. He could only look at her cold face, wanting to get closer but not daring to.

He had never felt this way before.

He had run into the most difficult problem and didn’t know how to handle it.

"Do you hate me?"

Wen Nuan clenched her fist and quietly swallowed the words she wanted to say. Ye Feimo’s eyes were red, but he didn’t cry. He suddenly grabbed Wen Nuan’s shoulders and said forcefully, "Look at me! Please say something!"

Wen Nuan’s eyes didn’t look at Ye Feimo. Even when she was facing him, her eyes looked right through him, as if she was looking at something else. Her eyes were unfocused. Ye Feimo was terrified of that feeling.

She had abandoned him.

Wen Nuan didn’t want him anymore.

Ye Feimo’s hands were trembling, his fingertips shaking nonstop. His voice was choked in his throat. He suddenly reached out and hugged her tightly, wanting to cry but unable to. The fear of losing her, like an endless night without a single light, quickly consumed him.

He didn’t want to lose Wen Nuan.

He couldn’t lose Wen Nuan.

Even if she stabbed him right now, he wouldn’t complain. He just hoped that she wouldn’t leave him. He truly knew he was wrong.

"Wen Nuan, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry..."

Countless apologies couldn’t get a single word from Wen Nuan.

He walked down the stairs with a defeated look on his face, one slow step at a time. The death of their baby and Wen Nuan’s coldness seemed to have stolen fifty years of his life. His steps had suddenly become old.

Cheng Anya saw that he looked like he was about to fall at any moment and was very worried. She couldn’t help but go and hold him.

She quickly said goodbye to Wen Nuan’s mother and left the Wen family’s house with Ye Feimo. Ye Feimo covered his head in pain. Wen Nuan had sentenced him to death and refused to give him another chance. He had lost his chance at happiness forever.

Seven years ago, he lost Han Bi and was sad, angry, and gave up on himself.

Seven years later, he was about to lose Wen Nuan. He was in so much pain that he felt like a walking corpse.

He suddenly realized that nothing else mattered to him. Wen Nuan was the only happiness he needed to hold on to in his life. Her happiness was his happiness, and her joy was his joy.

When they got married, he said he would take care of her and love her for the rest of his life.

But what had he done in the end?

He was the one who had hurt her the most.

He had pushed them both into a deep pit of pain.

Ye Feimo covered his face with his hands. Even to Cheng Anya, he didn’t want her to see the sadness and despair he felt right now. Would heaven have mercy on him and give him another chance? He really couldn’t live without Wen Nuan.

"Mom, what should I do?" Ye Feimo asked.

Cheng Anya was heartbroken. Since he was a child, Ye Feimo had always been independent and handled his own affairs very well. Even with the incident with Han Bi a few years ago, he seemed to have recovered very quickly.

Her son had never asked her with such a pained voice, "Mom, what should I do?"

Yes, what should he do?

She also wanted to know what her son should do.

His love for Wen Nuan had become an obsession. He couldn’t lose her. If he did, she was truly afraid of what he would do.

Cheng Anya’s eyes were red, and she couldn’t bear to look at his desperate face.
