A Night in the Grid
Chapter 45 Summoning (Part 2)
"Have your young master arrange another showing quickly, I'm about to be annoyed to death." After carefully examining the entire Illusory Canopy, Tan Weixin sighed and said to Lu Dan.
Lu Dan had already fully embraced his role as the Ye residence's steward. He quickly bowed and replied, "Since the Princess has instructed, I shall obey. However, there's no need to rush the next showing. A few fellows from the Ye Corporation Workshops have also become obsessed with this thing, and Miss Cassandra is rushing to create a second short film. It should be completed in about ten days or half a month. That will also be a good time to carry out some repairs on this Illusory Canopy. This repair work must be personally overseen by my young master."
Repairs? Tan Weixin chuckled inwardly, and Lu Dan was also somewhat skeptical. They both knew that the current state of the Illusory Canopy was almost entirely due to it being specially made to be completed within the time limit, omitting too many things. After these repairs, the Illusory Canopy's energy would probably be several times stronger.
Tan Weixin nodded and said, "Then let's do as your young master says. Where's Ye Tao? I agreed on a time with him and even invited officials from the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of War to confer. Where did he run off to?"
Lu Dan rolled his eyes and said, "Reporting to Your Highness, the daughter of Boss Dai from Daiyue Pavilion arrived this morning. The young master is helping to settle her in. He should be having lunch right now. I'll go call my young master over."
The daughter of Daiyue Pavilion? The young mistress? Isn't that the childhood betrothal who's only a little thing now? Tan Weixin smiled slightly and said, "Then there's no need to rush. Tell your young master to come to Fragrant Citron Residence when he's finished. We'll discuss matters there."
After seeing the Princess off, Lu Dan couldn't help but sigh as he sent someone to notify Ye Tao. Recently, he didn't know what was going on with Tan Weixin. She often didn't discuss matters in more formal places like the Princess's residence or the Ye Corporation Workshops. It might be understandable if Tan Weixin didn't like going to the Ministry of Works or the Ministry of War, but it was really strange to make the officials from the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of War follow her to those elegant and clean tea house private rooms to discuss official business all day long.
Ye Tao couldn't help but criticize Tan Weixin's sudden burst of petty bourgeoisie behavior, but the officials from the design departments who had joined the military camp were trembling with fear. After all, when discussing matters in a tea house, they couldn't readily access the vast amount of information from their entire department, or call upon various experts for advice at any time. They had to carefully do their homework on all the topics to be discussed before daring to attend these special meetings convened by the Princess. As a result, problems were now being solved faster than before. For security reasons, the Ministry of War would always send four to six guards to patrol the surrounding area whenever they went outside for these meetings that made their heads ache, even taking over the work of the waiters.
Today's meeting was to discuss whether the current draft should be formally finalized and enter the detailed design phase, whether some preliminary preparations should be started first, whether some surrounding construction should be started now, how the project schedule should be arranged, and so on. It was expected that there would be another round of disputes. But Tan Weixin didn't care. Disputes were disputes, and everyone was laying out their abilities and difficulties, planning together how to solve the problems. It wasn't buck-passing or shirking responsibility.
When the Princess arrived at Fragrant Citron Residence on time, the officials from the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of War had already been waiting in the reserved private room for a while. After the Princess nodded slightly, she sat down in the seat of honor. Then, she said nonchalantly that Ye Tao would probably be a little late today.
Just then, the rapid sound of horses' hooves drew everyone's attention. An imperial guard on horseback arrived at Fragrant Citron Residence, hurriedly stepped forward to greet the Princess, and said, "Your Highness, the Emperor summons Your Highness, Young Master Ye Tao, and these adults."
Tan Weixin was stunned. She hadn't expected her father to summon them at this critical juncture. She naturally didn't expect that the East Peace Emperor Tan Xiaopei was summoning them at this time simply because he wanted to see Ye Tao, this young man who had stirred up so much discussion. A separate summons would seem too deliberate and too eye-catching, while pretending to be very interested in the design of the military camp and paying attention to the progress to summon all the personnel involved would be much more normal. Whether as an emperor, observing a promising young man, or as a father, paying attention to a young man who his daughter cared about, this would be a very appropriate occasion.
While the officials present were delighted to have such an opportunity to show their abilities directly to the Emperor, Tan Weixin waved her hand helplessly and said to the guard who had come to deliver the order, "Are you going back to report first, or are you planning to wait here? Ye Tao hasn't arrived yet."
The guard looked somewhat astonished. He didn't know Ye Tao. He had received the message that the meeting convened by the Princess was taking place in this small tea house, and seeing that Tan Weixin was already present, he naturally assumed that everyone should have arrived. In this world, the number of people in Danyang who dared to be late for a meeting agreed upon by the Princess could probably be counted on one hand. And now, Tan Weixin didn't seem to have any intention of blaming Ye Tao at all.
Just then, a carriage stopped in front of Fragrant Citron Residence. A moment later, Ye Tao walked into the private room, cupped his hands to everyone, and apologized, "I'm really sorry, everyone. Something came up at home. I've kept you all waiting..."
Tan Weixin smiled slightly and said, "Then let's go together."
"Go where?" Ye Tao asked in confusion.
"The Emperor summons." Tan Weixin's expression was very relaxed. This relaxed and cheerful expression made Ye Tao really want to quip, "Are we going to meet the parents so soon?" Of course, there were other people present, and Ye Tao would never dare to be so presumptuous. However, his composure, without any nervousness or excitement, as if being summoned by the Emperor was the most ordinary thing in the world, still surprised everyone except Tan Weixin.
