Chapter 13: SOMETHING IN COMMON

Chapter 13: SOMETHING IN COMMON

IT WAS awkward.

Both Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun were in a kneeling position while separated by the coffee table between them.

They were facing each other, but he still felt distant from the child.

The silence between them was proof of that.

In fact, the only noise that could be heard there at the moment was coming from the kitchen.

Dujun Sunbae-nim is cooking a meal for me. But I don’t know what he’s making. I just told him he can use anything in my kitchen.

Wonyoung accidentally made eye contact with Yun Yuhyun.

Hence, he ended up saying the first thing that crossed his mind.

"Do you want to watch TV?"

"I want to play a game... Appa."

"Go ahead."

"Thank you."

Yun Yuhyun then brought out a tablet from his backpack.

And when the kid opened the game that he wanted to play...

Oh?

"Fish Together?"

Yun Yuhyun raised his head, obviously surprised. "You know this game, Appa?"

"Not only do I know Fish Together— I also play it."

It was a social game that took place in an imaginary port town called Maevis where you could play and connect with friends from all around the world. The game also had various content such as mini games, house parties, school life, camping, raising pets, decorating your house, traveling, and— of course— fishing.

That was the highlight of the game.

Hence, the name ’Fish Together.’

It was the game that Wonyoung started playing two months ago.

Aside from the fact that it was a fun game to play, it also helped with his physical therapy since he was constantly using his hands and fingers.

"What is your rank, Appa?"

"Me?" Wonyoung smirked. It was his time to shine, after all. "I have the Legendary Fisher Rank."

"Liar!" Yun Yuhyun cried. "Only players who catch the Megalodon can have that rank!"

’Megalodon’ was the biggest fish a player could catch in the game.

It was the hardest fish to catch, too.

"Obviously, I caught it."

"No, that can’t be true! None of my friends has caught the Megalodon yet!"

Heh.

"Just because your friends haven’t caught one yet doesn’t mean it’s impossible to catch it," Wonyoung said, and then he opened Fish Together on his phone. After logging into the game, he went to his character’s house and showed the screen to Yun Yuhyun. "Look, kid."

Yun Yuhyun gasped. "Appa, your house is small and ugly. Are you poor?"

"Yah. The size and the decorations of the house don’t matter as long as I have all the necessities," Wonyoung explained in a scolding tone. "Wait."

He realized that his character was in the living house, so he moved it.

The scene soon changed, and he finally got what he wanted to show the kid into the screen: a giant aquarium with a giant Megalodon inside.

Yun Yuhyun gasped again.

In amazement, this time.

Heh.

"You really caught the Megalodon, Appa," Yun Yuhyun said, amazed, before looking up at Wonyoung with sparkling eyes. "How did you do it, Appa? Did you buy the latest Paw-Paw Power Rod?"

The Paw-paw Power Rod was the latest in-app item sold in the game.

It was a fishing rod with a stronger ’pull,’ and was advertised as a tool that would increase the player’s chances of catching Megalodon.

But, of course, that’s bullshit— a tool is nothing if your skills suck.

"Yun Yuhyun, did you buy that fishing rod?"

"I did, Appa."

"Aigooya. That rod is overpriced as hell, and it’s not even a good tool. I caught the Megalodon using a basic rod, you know?"

"Liar..."

"Hey, it’s not my fault you suck at fishing."

"I don’t suck at fishing, Appa."

"Where’s your Megalodon, then?"

Yun Yuhyun frowned, and it looked like the kid was about to cry at any moment.

Aigoo.

Wonyoung didn’t want to admit this, but he felt a pang in his chest while looking at his biological son, who was on the verge of crying.

He looks too much like Dujun Sunbae-nim.

"Do you want me to teach you how to catch a Megalodon?"

Yun Yuhyun’s face lit up. "Please teach me, Appa!"

"HOOBAE-NIM, I made kimchi fried rice for you..."

Oh.

Yun Dujun trailed off when he found Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun sitting on the floor and leaning against the sofa— side by side.

Aww.

They’re bonding.

His husband and son were playing a game on their phone and tablet, respectively.

I don’t like that Yun Yuhyun is gaming too much, but I don’t have the heart to scold them.

"Yun Yuhyun, focus," Bae Wonyoung said. "Watch how the tail wiggles. When it slows down, then that’s your cue— it’s about to bite your bait."

"Yes, Appa," Yun Yuhyun said, his eyes glued to the tablet. "I’m keeping an eye on it."

Pfft.

Many people say that Yun Yuhyun is my exact carbon copy— my mini-me. But now that I’m looking at Yun Yuhyun and Bae Wonyoung sitting side-by-side, I can say that the two also look alike.

The way Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun knitted their eyebrows in concentration looked exactly the same.

Cute.

"Aw."

"No!"

Pfft.

Even the way Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun scrunched their noses in disappointment looked exactly the same.

Yun Dujun couldn’t help but smile while looking at his husband and son.

My family is finally complete.

***

"YUN YUHYUN, wait for your appa to finish his meal first."

Pfft.

Wonyoung wanted to play the game with Yun Yuhyun longer, but Yun Dujun had already ’dragged’ him to the dining hall to have his meal first.

Yun Yuhyun wasn’t hungry, so the kid was forced to stay in the living room.

But the child would pop up from time to time, obviously waiting for Wonyoung impatiently to finish his meal.

"Go back to the living room and wait there."

Yun Yuhyun slouched his shoulders in disappointment. "Yes, Daddy."

And, just like that, the kid disappeared from sight.

"You don’t have to be so strict, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said while enjoying the delicious kimchi fried rice with beautiful slices of steak on top that Yun Dujun cooked for him. "I can teach Yun Yuhyun how to play the game while eating."

"No," Yun Dujun said sternly. "Finish your meal first."

"Yes, Sunbae-nim."

Well, it wasn’t that hard to focus on the food that Yun Dujun prepared.

The kimchi fried rice was really delicious, and the steak was tender.

Soon enough, Wonyoung was eating his meal with so much gusto.

Yeah, why have a bag of chips for breakfast when you can have this?

"Slow down," Yun Dujun said, scolding him lightly. "No one will steal your food, Hoobae-nim."

Wonyoung just nodded.

"Can I ask you a question while you’re eating, Hoobae-nim?"

"Go ahead, Sunbae-nim."

"You’re looking for a child named ’An Baekya,’ aren’t you?"

Wonyoung almost choked on his food. "H-How did you know that?"

"I’ll tell you if you tell me why you’re looking for that child."

Aigoo.

Yun Dujun obviously hired someone to look into Wonyoung’s business.

But why would the Alpha do that?

I guess it doesn’t really matter since I’m planning to come clean anyway.

After all, Wonyoung needed Yun Dujun’s help.

"Sunbae-nim..."

"Yes?"

"I’m planning to be the child’s foster parent..."

Wonyoung trailed off when Yun Dujun’s face suddenly darkened.

Why does Sunbae-nim look angry?

"Bae Wonyoung, why would you want to foster another kid when you’re practically neglecting our child?"

Oh.
