Chapter 176: Chapter 41 Yang Xintian: Uncle Sun, hurry up and save the child!_2
Of course, this was only a friendship on the surface. But his words were enough. Satisfied, Feng Wenwu prepared to leave.
Little did he know, his wife didn’t understand his painstaking efforts.
She leaped up and accused him, "Feng, marrying you was the worst luck imaginable! I’ve been with you all these years and haven’t had a single good day, nothing but grievances. Fine, I can endure it, but Feng Feng is your only son! Are you going to make him suffer like me?"
What is she even talking about? Feng Wenwu thought, pressing his hand to his forehead. You’ve been wronged? Wronged, my ass. I’m the one who’s been wronged here.
Of course, he couldn’t say these words out loud. His rise over the years was entirely thanks to his father-in-law’s resources. At home, he had no say.
"Ma’am, if you’re going to argue, please go back to your own home. Don’t block our doorway and make a scene," Yang Xintian kindly reminded them.
"Hmph! You’re no better! My son would rather marry a dog than a woman like you," the woman snapped, perhaps too furious to realize how bizarre her words sounded.
Feng Feng’s face darkened. What kind of mother says her son should marry a dog?
Yang Xintian didn’t hold back, bursting into laughter. "Oh, yes, you’re absolutely right! Hurry up and get your son to marry one. I hear dogs aren’t cheap these days."
"AHHH!!!" The woman with the kidney-shaped face exploded with rage.
She raised her hand to strike but was stopped by a large hand grabbing her wrist.
"At your age, still bullying a child? Have you no shame?"
The person who had grabbed her was Sun Dasheng. He had been enjoying the drama from the sidelines for some time.
"Ah! You people! I’ll make every last one of you taste my wrath!"
She pulled her phone from her purse and started making calls. The first was to a manager at the Universe Bank.
"Hello? Manager Li? Yes, it’s me, Wenwu’s wife. You need to recall the loan to XX Company immediately. Yes, the one I spoke to you about. I was going to give them a few more days, but they decided to do this the hard way. Now they won’t get a single extra day."
"What? Manager Li, could you say that again? I didn’t hear you clearly."
"Why? Why is your bank canceling the collection of their loan?"
"You’re not sure? It’s an order from above?"
"You’re telling me not to pursue this, or you’ll be in a difficult position?"
"But Manager Li, this is what my husband, Lao Feng, and my father wanted—"
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
The line went dead.
The woman stood in disbelief. Everything had been agreed upon just a short while ago. At a dinner, Manager Li had even pounded his chest and assured her that such a minor issue was a piece of cake for him. Why had he changed his tune today? An order from above? Impossible. The higher-ups must be incredibly bored to issue a special directive for something so trivial that even Manager Li had the authority to handle. Her simple mind couldn’t comprehend the complex maneuvering at play.
But her husband, Feng Wenwu, standing beside her, understood immediately. Someone in a higher position has intervened. This is trouble.
His eyes inadvertently glanced toward the "reinforcement," Sun Dasheng. This family doesn’t have that kind of power.
Before moving against them, he had carefully investigated their background. As a son-in-law who had clawed his way up from humble beginnings, he was always meticulous in his actions. He wouldn’t make such a simple mistake. But no matter how carefully you plan, you can never prevent accidents. And this man’s intervention was an accident.
He quickly tugged at his wife’s clothes, signaling her to be quiet.
"Mr. Yang, Mr. Sun, Miss Yang, we are at fault for today’s events. Please, be the bigger people and forgive our foolishness."
"Dad, what’s wrong with you? Why are you suddenly talking like that?" his son asked, thinking his father had been possessed. Otherwise, why would his tone be so meek?
"Shut up! You caused all of today’s trouble! Now, hurry up and apologize to Miss Yang!"
Stunned into silence by his father’s scolding, Feng Feng was then met with a flurry of punches and kicks.
"That’s enough," Sun Dasheng said, seeing through the performance. "You don’t need to put on a show here. Just go." He knew the man was waiting for him to relent, noticing how his eyes kept darting in their direction even while he was beating his son.
The words were like a royal pardon. "My apologies," Feng Wenwu said hurriedly. "I will be sure to visit and make proper amends."
He then quickly dragged his two clueless family members away. If they stayed any longer, the muddle-headed mother and son would surely cause even greater trouble. He would have to come back and apologize properly himself.
Sigh. What a disaster.
After they left, Yang Fei was still trying to piece everything together. He knew, however, that the turning point was the man standing before him—Sun Dasheng, the reinforcement his daughter had brought.
"Mr. Sun, please, come in! Thank you so much for everything today," he said with deep emotion. After showing his guest to a seat, he rushed into the bedroom to share the good news with his wife.
Soon, the couple emerged together, enthusiastically serving Sun Dasheng tea and peeling an apple for him.
"You really don’t have to be so formal," Sun Dasheng said, taking a sip of tea before setting the cup down on the table. "When Tian Tian came to me for help, I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing."
"Mom, Dad, if Uncle Sun hadn’t helped us today, our family would have been ruined," Yang Xintian said, seizing the opportunity to praise him lavishly. She recounted everything he had done, and only then did her parents understand how the crisis had been averted.
They looked at each other, astounded. They hadn’t expected that a situation they saw as inescapable doom could be resolved with a single phone call. Their respect for their brother-in-law’s old classmate soared. He’s incredibly capable.
Now, their hospitality toward Sun Dasheng grew even warmer. They insisted he stay for dinner, and he found it difficult to refuse.
After the meal, the couple had to go to their company to handle some matters. Sun Dasheng took this as his cue to leave.
"Uncle Sun, can you stay and keep me company? I’m a little scared to be alone," she asked. It was understandable, given what she had just been through.
When Sun Dasheng nodded, her parents said, "Be good and listen to your uncle at home. And don’t go running around outside for a while." With that, they left.
The moment the front door closed, Yang Xintian’s face fell into a pout. She was clearly unhappy.
"What’s wrong? Still angry with your parents?" Sun Dasheng asked.
"Hmph! I’ll never forgive them."
He had guessed right; the girl was still stewing over what had happened. He didn’t lecture her about needing to understand her parents. After all, the couple really had been in the wrong. Letting her vent was probably for the best.
"Uncle Sun, why aren’t you telling me to be more understanding?" she asked, her curiosity piqued by the lack of a sermon.
"If I did, would you listen?" he retorted.
"Of course... not!" Yang Xintian leaped onto him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Thank you, Uncle Sun."
"For what?"
"For understanding me," she said, then began to pour out her heart. "Adults like them never consider what we kids are thinking. They only ever see themselves. What a kid thinks is completely unimportant in their eyes. Only you are different, Uncle Sun. You know what we’re thinking, and you respect our feelings."
"Really? I’m that great? I had no idea," Sun Dasheng laughed.
"Uncle Sun, you’re just so awesome! You’re my perfect male idol." She hugged him tighter, resting her head on his chest. It made her feel incredibly safe.
Sun Dasheng patted her on the back. "Why are you still so clingy, like a kindergartener? Come on, get down. It’s not appropriate to hug your uncle like this."
"No! I’m not getting down! I want to hug Uncle Sun!" she whined stubbornly.
Then, she tilted her head up, gazing at his handsome, mature face. She remembered all the ways he had protected her earlier. She felt dazed. She’d always been attracted to girls, so why was she feeling something special for him today?
Could I be falling for him?
She quickly shook her head.
Impossible!
