Chapter 1265: A Witch's Life

"Do you think he will agree?"

After Thunder's footsteps faded away, Roland asked Nightingale.

"I don't know," Nightingale replied slowly, "But his last words were serious."

Roland nodded and said nothing more. Apart from Lightning, there was also a personal reason for wanting Thunder to stay. As a famous explorer of the Fjords, he was the ideal candidate to attract Fjordians or serve as the core of the fleet.

Especially the latter – according to Agatha's deduction, the red mist should have covered more than half of the Eternal Winter. When the First Army was in position, even the Wolfheart Border would probably not be spared. In this case, rescue or flanking strikes along the coastline would be essential. The retreat case from the Northernmost Port showed how much pressure a support fleet with strong firepower could relieve the ground forces.

The merchant ships coming and going seemed orderly, but it was almost impossible to get them to enter the red mist zone and fight demons. It was not difficult for Neverwinter City to put together a few large ships, but what was lacking were well-trained sailors and someone who could coordinate the fleet.

If Thunder was willing to stay, all these problems could undoubtedly be solved.

However, Roland also knew that such things could not be forced and could only wait for the other party to consider it slowly.

As he picked up his pen to continue his previous work, a telephone suddenly rang.

Judging from the line, the caller was from the Witch Building inside the castle district.

"Hello?"

"Your Majesty, this is Wendy," a familiar voice came from the receiver. "The Shallow Beach Port checkpoint reports that they have discovered witches."

...

"Excuse me... sir, where are you taking us?"

Dailan held Momo's hand and asked cautiously.

Not long ago, they, like other migrants, were moving towards the checkpoint in a long line. But after entering the identity registration area, they were individually invited out of the line by men in black and entered a small room that looked transparent but was heavily guarded.

This made both of them tense up.

She had heard that when inspecting refugees, some cities would screen out some people for special "interrogation," and if they could not come up with corresponding benefits, they would suffer greatly.

But the other party did nothing, only left them in the room for a while, then asked some strange questions, and then released them, led by another man in black towards the inner city.

"No need to be so polite, just call me Serf," the man in black said in a friendly tone, "You are witches, right?"

Dailan was shocked. She did not expect the other party to point out her identity so directly. What was even more surprising was how they could identify that she possessed magic? She believed that she had disguised herself well enough.

"You... why do you say that?"

"I don't know anything about magic. It's those witches who told me." Serf scratched the back of his head and said, "I heard they can sense the existence of magic through a special stone. As for where I'm taking you, of course, it's the witches' residence – you must be exhausted along the way. Don't worry, Wendy will take good care of you."

Dailan and Momo exchanged glances, both seeing the surprise in each other's eyes.

One was that Neverwinter City actually had the means to identify witches. If the former church and those Wolfheart nobles could have done this, they probably would not have lived to this day.

The second was that, according to the other party's tone, witches seemed to be cooperating with ordinary people without any barriers?

Regarding this city located at the westernmost end of Graycastle and its ruler, Roland Wimbledon, the two had heard their master mention it. And during the wandering journey before boarding the ship, they had repeatedly heard various discussions and rumors. However, the content of the two differed greatly. One described the King of Graycastle as a cruel and arrogant person, and the so-called recruitment of witches was only to satisfy his evil desires. The other affirmed the success of New Graycastle, believing that witches who went there had a life no different from ordinary people.

It could be said that it was the second type of rumor that

made them determined to move south.

But after all, the two places were thousands of miles apart, and no one knew what the real situation would be like, so the two originally planned to hide their identities and live for a while, and then make further plans after clarifying the situation. They did not expect that as soon as they arrived in Neverwinter, their details would be exposed.

Fortunately, people here did not seem to regard witches as aliens anymore.

When they came to the outside of the castle district, a red-haired woman walked over with two little girls with a smile.

"Leave it to me next."

"Yes, Lady Wendy!" Serf saluted and waved to the two of them, then quickly turned and left.

Dailan also quietly sized up the woman called Wendy.

"My name is Wendy, the person in charge of the Neverwinter City Witch Union. These two are my assistants, Ling and Gray Rabbit." The other party smiled, "Can you tell me your names? Although the roster says Dailan and Momo, I would rather hear it from your own mouths."

She immediately felt a feeling like a spring breeze. It had been a long time since someone had spoken to her in such a gentle tone. And the other party was more like a noble than those so-called nobles, not only with a mature and moving appearance, and elegant clothes, but also with an extraordinary temperament, simply like a character walking out of a painting.

"I am Dailan." She said in a low voice.

"Momo," her partner said her name.

"Both are good names." Wendy took the hands of the two and said, "Welcome to Neverwinter City. From today onwards, this is your new home. Come, I'll take you to get familiar with the place where you will live in the future."

It was not until she passed through the walls and courtyard that Dailan realized that the lord's castle was not the tallest building here. Behind it, there was a seemingly larger building. And the two were separated by spacious gardens and lawns, and several outstanding-looking women were chatting together, their faces full of relaxed expressions.

Perhaps, the life I dream of is also like this?

"Are they... also witches?" Momo couldn't help but ask.

"That's right," Wendy nodded, "If it's off-work time, you'll see more."

"Uh... off-work?"

"It means the end of work." Ling explained, "In Neverwinter City, witches, like everyone else, have their own work to do every day."

"Then they..."

The little girl curled her lips, "There are always diligent ones and lazy ones, and this is the same as ordinary people."

"Didn't your sister tell you that my ears are very sensitive?" A woman with pointed ears first looked over here, then walked over with a smile on her lips.

"Ah... Sister Logia, I didn't mean you," Ling quickly waved her hand and said, "I mean –"

"Yo, the Union has new members again?" Another person quickly followed, "Hello, my name is Misty Moon, the head of the Neverwinter Detective Agency! No matter what your abilities are, you can become a member of the Detective Agency. How about it, are you interested?"

"— I mean this one." Ling covered her face weakly.

"Oh? Did you just happen to introduce me?" Misty Moon put her hands on her hips and said, "Remember, the Detective Agency relies on brains rather than abilities to solve problems. If someone persuades you to join the Adventurer's Guild, don't agree. They only look at abilities and ignore the inner qualities, like this wolf girl."

"I'll beat you up." Logia showed her canine teeth.

"Look, this is proof!" Misty Moon quickly made a blocking gesture.

"So embarrassing..."

"Um, can I go back and watch?" The other witches whispered.

Dailan was stunned for a moment.

Uh, life here seems to be... a little different from what she imagined?
