Ermu
Chapter 405: Companion
"Why did the glass light up? No matter how I used my ability afterwards, it didn't react..." She blurted out impatiently as she pushed open the door.
"You managed it so quickly?" Prince Roland seemed a little surprised. He put down his quill and took the small toy from Miyue's hand. "I thought it would take you two or three days."
Miyue bent down, rested her chin on the edge of the desk, and blinked, asking, "What exactly is it that's glowing?"
"It's an electric light," the Prince smiled. "You unleashed lightning from the sky."
"Lightning...?" She repeated softly to herself, then shook her head. "But it doesn't look like it at all. The light is orange-red, and it shines continuously—lightning is only a flash in the pan."
"The electricity ignites the filament, causing it to emit light continuously," the Prince twirled the glass bulb twice and then took it off. "It doesn't matter if you don't understand. Next, I'll show you real electric light."
Miyue's eyes widened as she stared at his every move, afraid of missing something. She watched as he brought the two copper wires closer together and then screwed the glass bulb back on. "Okay, continue practicing."
"Just like that?" She took the wire frame, feeling disappointed.
"That's right," the Prince covered his mouth. "Remember to draw the curtains during practice this time."
...
When Miyue returned to the bedroom, Lili was leaning against the headboard, reading "The Theoretical Foundation of Natural Science."
"Why are you up so early today?" She looked surprised. "Since you're up, go get me breakfast. Fried eggs and bread, no oatmeal."
"No, I won't get breakfast for a traitor," Miyue snorted, reaching out to close the thick French windows. The room immediately became pitch black.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Lili frowned.
"Practicing my ability," she plopped down on the floor. "Close the curtains, put away the glowing stone—those are His Highness's instructions."
"Alright, alright," the little girl rolled her eyes. "I'll go watch in the hall."
"No!" Miyue exclaimed.
"Why?" Lili glared at her. "I can't watch now, and I'm hungry. Do I have to stay here with you?"
"Uh..." Miyue hesitated. "Then I'll get you breakfast. Can you stay here...?"
"What," Lili asked with interest, "are you afraid of the dark?"
"No, I'm not!" She puffed out her cheeks, then muttered softly after a moment, "I just want someone to be with me."
She wanted others to see her progress, wanted others to marvel at her abilities. If she failed, she hoped someone would comfort her, but she would never say these things to Lili.
"Okay, hearing your pitiful tone, I'll reluctantly agree this once," the latter yawned. "Breakfast, quickly."
After reluctantly running an errand, Miyue was finally ready to practice.
"What are you going to do?" Lili asked smugly, chewing on an egg. "Give the thing in your hand magnetism?"
"No, I want to quickly change the magnetism in my hand. His Highness said that I'll see lightning that way."
Lili couldn't help but be stunned. "Lightning?"
"Yeah, I'm starting—"
"Wait," the little girl shouted, moving her body towards the door. "Okay, now you can use your ability."
Miyue exhaled a long breath, operating her magic according to her previous practice. If this scene had taken place in the Co-Aid Association camp, instructor Hakala would have come to reprimand her behavior, but His Highness, in order to facilitate her practice, had specially replaced all the iron utensils in the bedroom, including the iron nails, with copper ones.
Because of these experiences in Border Town, she was even less willing to accept her inaction.
The scenes in her mind appeared one by one, like a revolving lantern. This time,
She found herself entering the state extremely quickly. Magic danced between her hands, the speed getting faster and faster, and the intensity constantly increasing.
Then Miyue saw electric light.
Like a blue ghost appearing in the clouds, the light flashed briefly and disappeared instantly, but at that moment, she clearly saw the trajectory of the electric light—like a small arc, leaping from one end of the copper wire to the other, while emitting a subtle crackling sound.
But this was far from over.
Then came the second, the third... She was surprised to find that every time the magnetism changed, she could see a striking electric light rising up, and the trajectory also echoed it, undergoing the same changes. As she quickly switched the direction of the magnetism, a blue-white bridge gradually connected the two copper wires.
"What is this?" Lili, standing in the distance watching, couldn't help but widen her eyes.
Compared to yesterday's orange-red light, this electric light was insignificant, but it made Miyue's heart tremble—she had seen her ability with her own eyes for the first time! Compared to the invisible, incomprehensible magnetic lines, the rhythm and direction of the arc jumping was completely under her control. This was indeed the "lightning" she had created.
Electricity generates magnetism, magnetism generates electricity, so that's how it is.
She felt the power in her body become clear.
Miyue stood up, placed the metal frame on the table, slowly released her hands, and the magic calmed down, but the ends of the copper wires still flickered with light, looking like stars that were flickering on and off in the night.
She now had a deeper understanding of these words.
In other words, electricity is magnetism, and magnetism is electricity.

Roland chewed on the quill in his mouth, rubbing his sore neck.
"Do you need my help?" Nightingale's voice came from his ear.
"Ah, thank you," he nodded gently. Then a pair of slender hands rested on his shoulders, pressing with just the right amount of force.
Roland closed his eyes slightly, enjoying this moment of peace.
For the town's first law, which would also serve as the basic law of the future, he had been getting up even earlier than the guards these past three days, and only today could he consider it finished—because he knew nothing about law, he could only piece together a short dozen or so articles in dry, colloquial language, based on his understanding of the system, adding up to less than two pages.
But it already contained the ideas of the new world.
Completely different from the ancient feudal system, he believed that this law would, together with his territory, push the new system to the entire continent. Based on it, the new kingdom would inevitably radiate a completely different brilliance.
"Your Highness!" The office door was suddenly pushed open, and Miyue ran in holding the copper wire frame. "I finally understand!"
Roland opened his eyes and saw her place the "little toy" on the table and then release her hands.
"Look!"
She clearly wasn't touching the wire frame, but the arc of light at the cut end of the copper wire still existed.
Looking at this incredible sight, Roland couldn't help but open his mouth wide, and the quill slipped from the corner of his mouth and fell to the ground.
