Chapter 473: Chapter 473: The Husky and the Stray Cat by the Road (1)

Late night.

The usually busy hospital had fallen silent, with only the nurses and doctors on duty left in the corridors.

The ICU nurse watched over the instruments monitoring the patients’ conditions, rubbing her abdomen and furrowing her brow in discomfort.

Her stomach had been growling uncomfortably since earlier. Unfortunately, the nurse on duty with her had gone to eat and wouldn’t return for some time, and now it was already time to replace the patients’ drips.

As she was at a loss, someone walked up and tapped her on the shoulder: "What’s wrong? You look terrible."

The nurse glanced at the newcomer, who was also in a nurse’s uniform but seemed unfamiliar, clearly not from the ICU.

"I’m a new nurse from the obstetrics department. I came over after eating to check on things," she segued. "What about you? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Yes, I don’t know what’s wrong, my stomach started to feel uncomfortable not long after I started my shift." As she spoke, another wave of stomach cramps hit, and cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

"You should go get it checked out quickly. Look at you, your face is white from the pain."

"But Dodo hasn’t returned yet, I can’t leave my post."

"Well, I’m here, aren’t I? I’ll keep an eye on things for a bit."

The nurse wanted to refuse but was in too much pain, so she relented: "The patient inside arrived from a car accident. She isn’t in a good condition and hasn’t left the critical stage yet. If anything seems off, inform a doctor immediately."

"Sure, I got it. You go quickly, it looks like you can’t hold on any longer."

It was even worse not talking about it—the mention made the nurse’s abdominal pain more unbearable. Not bothering to say thanks, she hurriedly stood up and rushed to the restroom.

Once the nurse was out of sight, the person leisurely carried a tray into the ICU.

The ICU’s equipment beeped quietly.

On the hospital bed, Beau Shelby was wrapped tightly, breathing through an oxygen mask.

The person swapped out the IV bag and adjusted the drip rate, then pulled a small vial of transparent liquid from a pocket.

They took a new syringe, drew the liquid into it, and inserted the syringe into the IV line.

Just as they were about to inject the liquid, their wrist was suddenly grabbed.

Startled, they saw the person on the bed abruptly sit up.

"You! You’re not injured?" Then quickly realized: "You’re not Beau Shelby!"

"Correct. He’s not Beau Shelby."

A voice came from the balcony, and as it spoke, Raina North opened the door and entered the room.

The woman’s face changed: "This was a trap to lure me in!"

Raina smiled slightly: "If not for setting up this trap, how could we have caught you? Now let’s see who you really are!"

As Raina said this, she advanced toward the person.

The person sharply retreated to avoid Raina’s approach, raised a hand, and violently threw the medical tray at Raina.

Taking advantage of Raina’s evasion, the person swiftly dashed towards the door.

In the next second, faster than they had escaped, she stumbled back into the room.

Elias Hawthorne, accompanied by a group, walked in from the doorway.

The person’s expression shifted several times: "With such thorough preparations, it seems I won’t be escaping tonight."

"Not just hard to fly; you never even stood a chance," Jasper Hawthorne stepped forward. "If even my brother personally stepped in and you got away, how would he ever face my sister-in-law?"

"Sister-in-law?" The person frowned and exclaimed, "Aren’t Elias Hawthorne and Raina North getting divorced?"
