Chapter 114: Two matchdays; no rest for the wicked
There’s a saying that goes... no rest for the wicked.
Well, in the Spanish La Liga this season, if there was any wicked, then it had to be Real Madrid and Barcelona.
I mean, how can you play 22 consecutive games and not lose a single one?
Do you want to do an Arsenal Invincibles in La Liga? And to think that both clubs were gunning for the record at the same time.
If that was not wicked, then nothing else was.
And since they were the wicked, there was no rest for them. The calendar had no mercy on big clubs and hence why squad depth is so important.
Both clubs were scheduled to play two league games in six days.
Two stadiums, two storms, and one impossible demand: perfection.
Barcelona and Real Madrid stared at the schedule and felt the weight of history weight down on them. Fatigue burned their muscles, but the race at the summit left no room to stumble.
They would not give up, and so, they had to fight.

>San Sebastián – Real Sociedad vs FC Barcelona.
Rain lashed down on the Reale Arena, the home fans praying for a miracle as the Calatan giants finally visited their home turf for the return leg of the fixture.
FWEEE!
The game started and from the first whistle, the Basque crowd whistled every Barcelona touch, their chants echoing like thunder.
If they could, they wanted to drag Barcelona down with just their voices.
Barcelona’s legs were heavy. The bruises from La Cerámica still lingered. For long stretches, the game was a slug-fest with Real Sociedad pressing, suffocating, and forcing Sam deeper and deeper.
Barcelona were actually forced on the backfoot for long stretches of the game as they defended against waves of Real Sociedad attacks.
Real Sociedad were caught offside 8 times in the first half alone!
But even under a siege, champions find cracks.
In the 54th minute of the game, Sam ghosted between the lines, dragging defenders with him. With a flick of his boot, he threaded Raphinha clear. The Brazilian, surging like a bullet, slotted low past Remiro with venom.
0–1 Barcelona.
The Sam-Raphinha connection struck again when it mattered.
With the one goal secured, the rest was survival for Barca.
Araujo threw his body in front of Silva’s shot, José García tipped Oyarzabal’s curler just wide, all these just highlights of the defensive push that Barcelona made just to protect their lead.
When the final whistle eventually blew, Barça’s bench erupted. It wasn’t beautiful, but it was enough.

>Santiago Bernabéu – Real Madrid vs Athletic Club.
In Madrid, it was war.
Athletic Club came armed with Basque fury, fearless at the Bernabeu as they pressed high, snapping into every duel. For twenty minutes, Madrid looked rattled, until a single moment of individual brilliance.
Vinícius received the ball and went full Ronaldinho mode as he danced past his two markers like they were not there, before squaring for Bellingham, and the Englishman drilled low into the bottom corner with terrifying ease.
1–0 Madrid.
They were behind, but San Mamés’ pride doesn’t die easy.
In the second half, Iñaki Williams silenced the Bernabéu in the 62nd minute, blasting a thunderous shot past Courtois to make it level.
1–1.
The Bernabeu trembled, nerves in every breath, but then came the hammer late in the game in the 83rd minute.
Valverde thundered forward and unleashed a rocket from range. Simón parried, but Rodrygo pounced and buried the rebound to steal all 3 points.
2–1.
The whistle blew, and Madrid survived their storm.

...
By the next morning, both camps felt it.
Muscles screamed, ice baths stung, and rotations loomed. Coaches whispered about minutes, recovery, and nutrition.
Hansi Flick took it a step further as he stamped down on the personal life of the players. No excessive partying, no late night clubs, no alcohol.
Well, since Sam never did all these in the first place, he was not part of the players that the coach blasted.
As all these happened, the calendar rolled forward mercilessly.

[La Liga- Matchday 24:]
>Spotify Camp Nou – Barcelona vs Granada.
Back at home, the Spotify Camp Nou roared like a cathedral of hope.
The fatigue was still there, but so was the adrenaline of playing in front of their people. Playing in front of the fans meant the world.
From the first whistle, Barcelona pressed as Yamal danced on the right, tormenting defenders. In the 28th minute, he beat two men, slipped the ball across, and Sam rifled it in to get Barca the lead.
1–0 Barcelona.
Granada tried to resist, but the blaugrana tide rose. Pedri sprayed passes, Balde surged, and in the 63rd minute, Sam struck again, unleashing a curling thunderbolt from 25 yards to double the lead.
The net bulged, and the stadium shook.
2–0.
"Sam!" "Sam!" "Sam!"
The Sam chants resumed at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The party was sealed in the 81st minute as Yamal, irrepressible, jinked inside and curled one of his own into the far corner.
3–0 Barcelona.
The whistle came with chants of "Campeones!" echoing through the night.

>Mestalla – Valencia vs Real Madrid.
The Mestalla was chaos.
Flares smoked the night air, and jeers rained down as every Vinícius touch was met with venom. Valencia smelled blood, and in the 35th minute, they struck, Hugo Duro sweeping home from close range to give them the lead at home.
1–0 Valencia.
Madrid were rattled, but without flinching, they dug deep.
Bellingham surged, Valverde pressed, and Mbappé burned into his reserves of stamina as they fought for the equalizer.
It came in the 52nd minute as Rodrygo twisted inside and fired, his shot spilling to Vinícius who tapped in to bring Madrid level.
1–1.
The Mestalla howled, but Madrid refused to bow.
The game ticked into its dying minutes, tension tearing through every pass. Then Mbappé exploded late in the 88th minute.
BZZZ!
He sprinted behind the defense, latched onto Valverde’s lofted pass, and smashed into the roof of the net with venom.
POW!
1–2 Madrid.
The final whistle brought groans from the Mestalla and relief from Madrid’s bench as their winning streak continued.

...
When the dust settled, the table still burned like fire.
1. FC Barcelona – 66 points
2. Real Madrid – 66 points
Both remained unbeaten; both remained untouchable.
Two matchdays, four victories, still no cracks.
The pundits were left shaking their heads in disbelief.
"This is madness! Neither will give an inch."
"It’s like watching gods fight above us."
"La Liga has become a coin toss, and the world is watching."
Sam, exhausted, iced his ankle in silence.
Vinícius, still buzzing, replayed his goal on his phone, but both knew the truth... this season was no longer just about winning, it was about outlasting the other titan.
The league burned hotter than ever before.
History beckoned.
