Chapter 222: Chapter 138: First Arrival at the Wen Family
The plane gradually accelerated and then swiftly taxied, soon spreading its wings to soar in the boundless sea of clouds. In the violent turbulence of an instant, Wen Xin felt her heart might leap right out of her throat. Despite being prepared for so long, thinking she could face it calmly, the moment she truly embarked on the journey, her heart was like cast into an angry sea of raging winds and giant waves, rising and falling without finding a foothold.
Feeling Wen Xin’s tension, Luo Ye tightly clasped his mother’s clenched fist, wanting to convey some confidence to her.
Truth be told, she was also nervous. The itinerary had been set long ago, and Wen Tong had been asked to notify the Wen Family in advance, but there had been no news since then. The little uncle had lost contact after he last visited with the little aunt. If it weren’t for Mom’s determination to face things, perhaps the journey home might have been aborted.
Dad had just taken office, with a myriad of matters awaiting his attention. Nevertheless, he had taken two days off to accompany his wife and children to face this moment. Luo Ye deeply admired his father’s valor from the bottom of his heart. Such courage was not something that ordinary people possessed.
At this crucial moment, a man who sets aside everything to accompany his wife and children on a trip represents just one thing: Family is the most important thing in his heart!
The moment the plane landed, Wen Xin’s complexion turned somewhat pale. After the aircraft stabilized, Luo Ye compassionately wrapped his arms around his mother: "Mom, we’re here for you."
"Let’s go." Wen Xin forced a nod and a smile, pulling her daughter along as she followed her husband and son, heading out with her head down.
October in Sha City is the most pleasant season of the year, with good sunlight, comfortable temperatures, though it is a bit dry. Stepping out of the aircraft, a refreshing breeze hits their faces.
"Mom, Sha City’s autumn is even brighter than that of Island City," Luo Ye found something to say to ease the tension; upon reaching their destination, her own heart started to beat wildly.
"Yes, it’s just a bit dry," Wen Xin responded somewhat distractedly to her daughter.
Luo Zhenggang stopped walking and turned back to look at the mother and daughter: "Wen Xin, we’re already here, and we’ve notified them in advance. Relax a bit. If things keep going like this, by the time we reach the Wen’s Mansion, you two might start speaking incoherently. Then, what would Grandpa think seeing that I married his daughter and she turned silly, and brought back a granddaughter who’s also half-silly? At least the grandson is passable but remains silent. Do you think he would be happy?"
Knowing full well that Dad was teasing, someone still took offense. "Dad, what do you mean ’half-silly’? I’m just talking casually to ease my nerves. You described Grandpa as so stern; isn’t it okay to be a little nervous?"
Luo Feng hurriedly went to his sister’s side to soothe his half-agitated sister: "Ye’er, if you’re half-silly, then I’m completely silly, okay?"
"Stop it!" Luo Ye laughed and hit her brother: "You know that’s not what I meant."
"Alright, everything will be fine with me here; if there’s scolding or beating to be taken, I’ll bear it at the front..." Luo Zhenggang wrapped his arm around Wen Xin: "I promise, even if Dad slashes my neck and blood splatters, I’ll take it without flinching."
"My Dad isn’t as fierce as you make him out to be," Wen Xin commented, amused into a slight smile.
"Good, that’s more like it. A whole family looking glum as they approach the door would upset anyone. Just relax."
...
Looking through the car window, searching in that fleeting glimpse for memories of the past, Wen Xin’s expression is solemn yet excited. The absence of family members at the station probably meant her father had not forgiven her, right?
Having notified them of their return date, the family of four had scanned the airport lobby but found no one from the Wen Family to meet them. They had no choice but to take a taxi to the home that had haunted her dreams countless times.
The camphor trees lining the road were lush, and the distant gray-tiled ancient mansion gradually came into view. Wen Xin’s tears flowed like beads off a broken string.
Twenty years, and the scenes of playing with her sister were still so clear. She didn’t dare return, not just because of her fear of her father but most importantly because of her guilt towards her sister.
What she was always fleeing was the memory of her sister. However, once truly back, she realized she had been longing to return, and that deep down, she deeply loved this place!
Luo Ye and Luo Feng understood their mother’s feelings, each tightly taking an arm. At this moment, crying freely was better than anything else. They had previously encouraged Mom to relax, but now that they were truly here, the siblings could feel their mother’s intense emotional fluctuations, emotions that were simply impossible to control.
Even though they had opened up about the issues before and Mom had been adjusting, without truly being here and touching the source of the wound, healing may never truly happen. Thus, crying is also a form of healing medicine.
