Chapter 395: Chapter 231: Got Framed?
"They... don’t think we’ve just started to exert our power, do they?" As he watched Yan Han and Lu Jian sprint away, Liu Xing stroked his face: "There are still more than ten kilometers to go!"
"Our momentum just now was indeed a bit scary!" Zhan Hao laughed: "Liu Xing, don’t doubt it, Yan Han might really maintain this pace; he was a long-distance runner and has won a national youth championship gold medal."
Luo Ye couldn’t help but click his tongue: "Our team is really packed with hidden dragons and crouching tigers."
As they talked, several people were already level with Mo Datong’s car; Luo Ye turned his head and saw Mo Datong, who had gotten out to help a local push the cart, and burst out laughing — Mo Datong was being blocked by an old ox cart!
Just as Mo Datong’s gaze turned towards him, Luo Ye quickly repressed his smile and put on a serious face: "Instructor Mo, do you need help?"
"No need, just keep running!" Mo Datong glanced at them: "There’s an instructor waiting at the turnaround point, run with ease."
"Giddy up!" The cart driver yelled, and the ox continued to walk leisurely, lifting the base of its tail and leaving behind several clumps of warm deposit, proudly swishing its tail as it strolled leisurely!
Mo Datong helplessly covered his head, thinking that just these few hundred meters had farmland and coincided with the autumn harvest, which was supposed to bore the students, yet it ended up boring him instead.
Seeing the students getting closer from behind, Mo Datong turned back and shouted to the assistant instructor: "Xiao Liang, drive slow, I’ll go ahead!"
"Liangzi, taken note, we’re leaving too." The other two instructors pushing the cart also waved to Xiao Liang and quickly moved ahead.
"Brother Niu..." Xiao Liang wailed in despair, continuing to move unhurriedly; there was still a tricycle behind... Boss, are you training me or the students?
At about 700 meters from the finish line, Mo Datong encountered Yan Han and Lu Jian who had turned back, and casually asked: "Did you sign on the brick?"
"Sign?" The two were stunned and turned to dash off.
At 400 meters from the finish line, he encountered Luo Ye, Zhan Hao, and Liu Xing again, Mo Datong with a smile on his lips: "Did you sign on the brick?"
"Yes, Instructor, we did!" The three answered in unison.
"Go ahead!" Mo Datong waved his hand.
Luo Ye glanced at Mo Datong: "Instructor, are you quite disappointed?"
"Huh?" Mo Datong was momentarily stunned, then quickly realized and wanted to reprimand them, but found that the group had already outpaced him by a lot, his lips curling: "So energetic, I want to see how long you can keep it up!"
In the last five kilometers, Luo Ye, Zhan Hao, and Liu Xing almost simultaneously reached their second physiological limit, their throats painfully dry like burning, a sip of water provided less than a minute of relief before the sensation returned, breaths felt like needles in their lungs, and every step took tremendous effort.
Yan Han leisurely passed the three, slowing his pace and gradually accelerating, soon leaving them far behind.
Luo Ye looked back, leaving only Lu Jian, Yu Na, Ji Sisi, and Jing Feng in the first squad; everyone’s condition was similar, panting like dogs, faces redder than crabs!
Turning his head back to watch the increasingly distant figure ahead, Luo Ye, confused, said: "Long-distance... champions are indeed different, but... with such good stamina, how could the team bear to let him go?"
Zhan Hao took a sip of water to moisten his throat, explaining: "Yan Han is quite stubborn; he couldn’t stand the coach’s physical punishment of the younger students, argued with the coach, and in his youthful vigor, submitted a retirement application and went to the military academy."
Liu Xing added: "The conflict wasn’t built up in just a day, otherwise how could he have retired so easily? But being able to pass the exam shows his academic performance is not bad."
"His studies are indeed good!" Zhan Hao nodded, "Concerning retirement, one of the triggers was a teammate who was nearly at his level, but was favored by the coach and team leader, all the good opportunities went to that teammate first, Yan Han was utterly disappointed before he decided to leave."
Luo Ye felt much better and quickly looked towards the two: "I’ve recovered, have you two been waiting for me?"
Zhan Hao waved his hand: "I just started feeling better too!"
"Me too!" Liu Xing quickly said.
"Okay, I believe you. Should we speed up then?" Luo Ye looked back; Ji Sisi and Yu Na were fiercely catching up, less than three meters behind the three.
The three tried their best but couldn’t catch up to Yan Han, however, they left the people behind them far behind.
Upon reaching the destination, Zhan Hao gave Luo Ye a look and forcefully pushed Liu Xing over the finish line, before she could react, he also gave her a push.
Staggering past the finish line, Luo Ye, thoroughly displeased, glared at Zhan Hao who was following close behind: "Annoying!"
"That line should be said by Liu Xing first." Zhan Hao chuckled, patting Liu Xing who was glaring at him and Luo Ye: "Don’t bulge your eyes so big, they’ll never be as big as a bull’s eyes!"
Instructor barked at the group, "Don’t stop, keep moving!"
As the group was leisurely doing slow stretches, they saw Jing Feng rapidly overtaking Yu Na and Ji Sisi, and then Luo Jian, sprinting towards the finish line, making him the fifth!
"I’ll go ahead and greet Star Manipulating Moonlight." Luo Ye checked the water bottle in his hand, "Too bad, can’t share the water with them!"
"Together," Zhan Hao dragged Liu Xing along, "Let’s go, just take it as a stroll."
"Eldest Young Master Zhan, I would have kept up even without you pulling me." Liu Xing said while gently nudging Zhan Hao, "Look at Yu Na and Ji Sisi, turning foes into friends."
Luo Ye had already noticed when Jing Feng overtook them; Yu Na had gone over to hold Ji Sisi, seemingly saying a few words, and then, the two changed their manner from confrontation to supporting each other as they ran forward.
"Girls’ matters, hard to explain and comprehend," Zhan Hao shook his head, noticing that the looks Yu Na and Ji Sisi directed at Luo Ye clearly contained a hint of jealousy.
"An enemy of an enemy is a friend." Luo Ye’s lips curled into a smile, "If they can set aside their differences for me; that means I still have some charm!"
Zhan Hao shrugged, "That’s why I say, girls’ matters are complicated, Yan Han ran first place, Liu Xing and I won’t be jealous, we would just respect him."
"Generally speaking, girls are more openly jealous than boys, but, you have to admit, there are many petty boys too."
Liu Xing nodded, "Agreed, we have two guys in our class, both excel academically, almost always first and second, they can’t see eye to eye, not talking privately at all, always slandering each other. They live by, my friend’s enemy is my enemy, and my enemy’s friend is my friend."
After walking more than a mile, they encountered the second squad led by Star Manipulating Moonlight looking like drowned rats, mouths wide open panting as they staggered forward.
Luo Ye waved a water bottle in front of them leading the way, "Come on, Demon, Male Emperor (Wu Zetian’s nickname), push through! The water’s just a short distance away!"
"Meanie!" Star Manipulating Moonlight looked longingly at the unreachable bottle, sticking out his tongue to lick his dry lips, his face full of frustration.
"Then chase the meanie, if you catch up, you’ll get water," Luo Ye waved the bottle behind him continuing to run forward.
Zhan Hao and Liu Xing, running at his sides, added fuel to the fire, "What Luo Ye said is true, not just water at the finish line, but ice-cold water, so refreshing that you can’t even imagine!"
...
"This is ice water? This is ice water? I’m going to flatten you big liars!" Star Manipulating Moonlight held up a hot bottle of mineral water, feebly protesting.
Lured by the promise of ice water, she, along with Yaoguang and Wu Zetian and closely followed by Li Xiaobei, desperately increased their speed to race back, only to find, instead of the dreamed-of refreshing ice water, it was more like lukewarm water!
"Would you have come back this quickly without that trick?" Luo Ye rolled his eyes, "Ungrateful wretch, we reached the finish and even turned back to run with you."
After downing a bottle of water, Wu Zetian finally felt at ease, mysteriously glancing at the group, "Oh right, you guys ran too fast to see the good show..." He sneaked a look at the instructor, motioned everyone to come closer and walked a bit further away.
"Didn’t get blamed by Uncle Niu, right?"
"How did you know?" Yaoguang looked astonished at Luo Ye, "Don’t tell me you are even better at predicting than I am?"
"Cut it out!" Luo Ye smacked Yaoguang, "Spill it, what actually happened?"
"I’ll tell, let me tell!" Wu Zetian cleared his throat, trying hard to suppress his laughter, "Wasn’t the instructor’s car following that oxcart? Somehow, the ox got spooked, pulling a load of corn and cornstalks and took off running. The old farmer was desperately trying to stop it with his whip, but the more he whipped, the wilder the ox got.
The real problem was, on top of the cornstalks in the car sat a young woman in her twenties. When the ox bolted, she climbed out from amidst, screaming in terror.
In a critical moment, the head instructor ran over, grabbed the ox’s reins hard, and got the cart to a stop. The huge inertia from stopping threw the girl out, and the head instructor leaped forward, catching her in his arms.
If things had ended there, it would have been fine, but the key issue was, the girl’s father, the old farmer driving the cart, wouldn’t have it. He said his daughter had been held by a man and demanded the head instructor to marry her, or he wouldn’t let them leave, hahaha..."
Zhan Hao slapped the gleefully laughing Wu Zetian, "Really? For real?"
"Would we joke about this kind of thing?" Wu Zetian looked offended, "Do I appear so unreliable to my buddies?"
"They’re back, they’re back!" Yaoguang shouted quietly, nudging the others with his foot, "Keep it down, don’t let him hear."
Mo Datong hopped down from the SUV, took the logbook from the instructor’s hand, checked everyone’s results, and after a sweep of his eyes clapped his hands, "The last three to arrive, take out the bricks from your backpacks, we’ll send you back. The remaining 24 students, get ready for dinner, and after dinner, we move on to the next item, hiding!"
An early morning update from Nu’an.
