"You... who are you?" She still couldn't suppress her fear.
"Forgot to introduce myself. My name is Lin Yan, from Class 2, Grade 1."
"The top student in Grade 1?" She seemed to recognize Lin Yan, after all, high school students paid most attention to grades.
Lin Yan was a celebrity in Grade 1, the youngest and the best student. Although it was only a monthly exam, her nearly perfect total score had left a deep impression.
"Yes, that's me."
"So, you're a Celestial Master?" She looked at the female ghost behind Lin Yan, and then at Lin Yan's calm demeanor, realizing Lin Yan's identity was definitely not simple.
However, she never expected that this junior from Grade 1 was not only good at academics but also had a hidden identity. It was so cool.
Realizing this, she forgot her fear.
"You could say that. So, how did you provoke that old ghost?" Lin Yan pulled over a chair and sat beside the hospital bed.
This was an intensive care unit, and she was the only patient. But she had been so flustered earlier, and had even pressed the call button several times with no one coming. It seemed this hospital wasn't very safe.
There was a glass wall between this room and the doctor's office next door, allowing visibility into both. From here, she could see the doctor writing medical records on the computer, yet they showed no reaction to an extra person in the room.
This suggested Lin Yan's abilities were truly formidable.
"Junior Lin, can you really help me?" She looked at Lin Yan with hopeful eyes, as if Lin Yan were her last hope.
"That depends on what you've encountered. But you saw it yourself, that old ghost in the shroud couldn't defeat Sister Wei. If it's just him, I can help you resolve it."
Hearing Lin Yan's words, she became very excited. She wanted to get up, but accidentally bumped her wound, letting out a pained cry.
"Senior, be careful. Don't worry. Since I'm here, I'll definitely do my best to help you resolve this."
Then Lin Yan heard about this senior's situation.
The senior's name was Zhang Lili, a student in Grade 3. The reason she encountered this trouble was because she and a few friends played a game on the weekend – Ouija.
They had heard about this legend from somewhere and decided to try it. Normally, such games wouldn't summon powerful ghosts.
After all, ghosts had pride and wouldn't appear instantly. So, usually, Ouija only summoned new ghosts. If they played in their own homes, they wouldn't be able to summon anyone at all.
Many places where people lived had too much yang energy, and ghosts couldn't exist there.
But they played this game in an abandoned forest, saying it would be more thrilling.
Lin Yan didn't know how to comment on these girls. They disregarded their own safety for the sake of thrills.
Since they wanted to play this game, they must have believed in ghosts from the bottom of their hearts. Belief made it real, and if they didn't believe, they wouldn't have thought of playing it.
Later, they did summon an Ouija. After asking it a few questions, they found that this Ouija seemed to know everything, so they kept asking more and more.
Until finally, they got carried away, forgot the taboos, and asked that question.
"Ouija, how did you die?"
After asking, they realized something was wrong and frantically tried to send the Ouija away, but it was already too late.
The pen held by the three girls drew circles on the paper wildly. They were terrified and started to speak without thinking, saying who knows what, until the Ouija finally left. They all collapsed on the floor.
But they quickly got up and left the place.
However, even though the Ouija had left, the matter wasn't over.
Last night, this old ghost had gone to their dormitory, asking her to fulfill her promise. With nowhere to hide, she ran to the balcony.
She had intended to run to the corridor, but the ghost blocked her path, so she could only run towards the balcony.
Zhang Lili jumped down herself. She had shouted "Help!" loudly in her dormitory, but not only did her roommates not wake up, even the corridor and balcony sensor lights didn't turn on.
She had initially thought that from such a low floor, jumping down shouldn't be a problem. But she never expected to be so severely injured. Even more so, she didn't expect this ghost to chase her to the hospital.
"What did you promise that ghost?" Lin Yan frowned. She looked closely at Zhang Lili and saw a black thread tied to her wrist. The other end of the thread extended outside the ward and disappeared in the direction the old ghost had left.
It seemed Zhang Lili had indeed agreed to something with the old ghost and reached an agreement, which was why she was being haunted.
"I... I don't remember." She was too flustered at the time to remember what she had said.
"Did your two friends who went with you have any problems?"
"I don't know. Probably, probably not." She hesitated. The Ouija game was her idea. If her friends had suffered any harm because of it, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself even if she died.
"Tomorrow is Saturday, they should come to see you. Leave them here, and I'll come in the evening to try and resolve this once and for all." Lin Yan understood Zhang Lili's fear and didn't ask further.
"Here are some talismans. Keep them under your pillow and in your pocket. You must not be without them. I'll go to the bureau to report information about this ghost and come back tomorrow evening."
Lin Yan took out a handful of triangular folded talismans from her backpack and handed them to Zhang Lili on the bed.
"Junior Lin, can't you stay here with me? I'm scared."
"Don't worry, I'll remove the illusion spell soon, and your parents will come to accompany you. The call button will also work shortly." Lin Yan tried her best to comfort Zhang Lili.
"But..." Zhang Lili was still very worried.
"Keep the talismans safe. I'll cast a sleeping spell on you in a moment, and you'll sleep soundly until tomorrow morning. You're injured now and need more rest to recover faster."
Lin Yan couldn't stay in the hospital. Not only were outsiders not allowed in hospitals, but she and Zhang Lili had no prior connection. It would be strange to suddenly visit her and then stay overnight.
Even though Lin Yan was a Celestial Master, she still wanted to enjoy a normal person's life.
"Okay, then." Zhang Lili knew she was asking too much, but she was really scared. "Why don't you use the sleeping spell on me now, Junior Lin? While you're here, I'll feel more at ease sleeping."
"Alright!" Lin Yan stood up, put the chair back in place, and walked to the bedside. She didn't take out a talisman; instead, she raised her hand and drew a sleeping spell on Zhang Lili's forehead with spiritual energy.
"It's cool and so comfortable." Zhang Lili murmured. The pain from her injuries was unbearable, and although the doctor had given her a patient-controlled analgesia pump after surgery, she still felt terrible.
What Lin Yan drew on her forehead felt very comfortable. The next moment, she drifted into sleep.
Lin Yan covered her with the blanket, placed the talisman under her pillow, and then left the ward.
