"I have no interest in your family's wealth. Don't think of escaping," he said, looking at Big B, who was struggling to break free, with a half-smile.
"It took me quite some effort to gather you all. How could I let you go just for money?"
His smile turned more sinister, and his dagger traced the skin of Big B's upper body. But in the next moment, he retracted the dagger, bent his knees, and slammed them into Big B's stomach.
"Ugh!" Big B cried out in pain.
"Don't hurt him. Whatever you want, we'll give it to you," Glasses said anxiously.
"Who exactly are you?" Big B gritted out.
"Who am I?" He slammed his knee into Big B's stomach again.
"You obviously don't know who I am, considering how high and mighty you are." He kicked Big B's leg.
"Stop! Stop, please! Let him go!" Glasses was frantic nearby, but utterly powerless.
Glasses’s cry made him realize there was someone else present.
He turned and punched Glasses in the stomach, then pressed his dagger to his throat.
"Why are you doing this to us? If we have to die, at least let us die knowing why." Though the sensation of the dagger cutting his skin was unpleasant, he tried to remain calm.
"I think it's perfectly fine for you to die in confusion." Blood trickled down the blade of the dagger.
What were these sufferings? He thought of the sealed autopsy report, of his sister, his kind and adorable sister.
The thought of the spoken or written accounts made him tighten his grip.
"Ge!"
He froze. Had he misheard? Why would he hear his sister's voice?
"Ge, it's me, I'm Sheng'er."
That familiar voice again. He turned and saw a translucent figure.
"An illusion. This must be an illusion." He turned his head back, the dagger pressing harder.
"Let go," Glasses felt the dagger slicing deeper, bit by bit, blood mixing with the rain.
Big B dared not speak. This person was a madman. He genuinely intended to kill them. He had to escape quickly, he absolutely had to escape!
"Ge, it really is me." Luo Sheng floated beside him, watching him not far away.
"Did you hear anything?" He lifted the dagger slightly.
"N-no." Glasses nodded cautiously. He didn't know what the man was talking about, but he truly heard nothing.
He looked at Big B, who also nodded, indicating he hadn't heard anything either.
"Ge, they can't hear me. I am truly Sheng'er. Do you still remember the first birthday gift I gave you?
It was a card, my kindergarten craft project. You found it annoying, but you kept it safe." A smile appeared on her face, but it looked strange, as if it hadn't been used in a long time.
"You?" He released Glasses and turned to face the semi-transparent girl.
"Yes, I am your sister, Luo Sheng." She longed to throw herself into her brother's arms and pour out her grievances, but it wasn't time yet.
"As you can see, I am a ghost now. Only after my death did I learn that ghosts truly exist in this world."
"Where have you been? Why didn't you come find me sooner?" He took two steps forward, reaching out to touch his sister.
She was still wearing the clothes she had on when she died, clothes stained with blood that flowed from her body, blood that couldn't be washed away.
Big B and Glasses saw him looking at someone, muttering to himself, and were increasingly convinced he was a madman.
Taking advantage of the moment he wasn't paying attention to them, they cautiously began to untie themselves. Time was of the essence, and this was their only chance. They had to seize it.
Exchanging glances, they understood each other's intentions.
Luo Sheng noticed their movements, but she had come to let them go. She didn't want her brother's hands stained with blood. As for revenge, she could take care of that herself.
Her brother had a bright future ahead of him; he shouldn't ruin it for these scums.
"I've been following Huang Yue and the others, but I couldn't touch them. I could only watch them live the university life I dreamed of."
"Brother will help you. Brother will punish them and make them pay." His expression turned somewhat wild.
He retrieved the dagger he had put away. Hearing his sister's words, he felt an immediate urge to kill these two.
"Ge, I want to do it myself." She reached out to stop her brother, who was about to act. "I've been around them these past few years, and I've truly hated them. Only by ending them myself can I quench this hatred."
"Alright," he remembered something. "But you said you couldn't touch them?"
"I can now. Can't you see me, Ge?" She didn't elaborate on why he could see her; this wasn't the time for explanations.
"I want to make them taste my pain. No, I want them to suffer a hundred times more than my pain!"
"Okay, Ge will help you. Whatever you want to do, Ge will help you!"
"Then, Ge, will you take me to see someone?"
"Who?"
"Someone who can help me achieve this wish."
"Alright. But what about these two? Should I kill them?"
As he finished speaking, the two tied to the tree flinched. Looking at this man talking to himself, their fear grew.
"Don't worry about them. After you accompany me to see that person, I will personally deal with them."
"Fine!" He hadn't removed the trackers he'd placed on these two. Even if they managed to escape, he could still find them.
With that, he left with Luo Sheng.
As Luo Sheng departed, she cast a venomous glance at the two. Let you live a little longer. Soon, very soon, she would personally avenge herself.
The man and the ghost left. Luo Sheng, being a ghost, was unaffected by the rain. But seeing her brother walking in it, she felt pained.
"It's okay, Sheng'er. This little rain is nothing." He didn't mind the rain at all. The rain on his skin was the only way he could confirm that this was not a hallucination.
"Brother, please don't make me worry. She told me I won't disappear soon until I've completed my revenge."
He would still be needed for what was to come. Although getting wet in the rain was fine for Summer, it would surely affect his health.
She only had her brother. While revenge was her obsession, her brother was also immensely important to her.
