Chapter 24 Why Do You Make Me Worry?

Hearing the voice behind her, Su Ziyu’s delicate body trembled as if struck by electricity.

She spun around abruptly—

Only to see Li Qianfan, one hand on the steering wheel, the other gripping the door handle, walking over with that little Mini.

Upon seeing him.

Feelings of grievance, panic, worry, and hatred converged, rushing towards Su Ziyu’s tear ducts.

Her vision blurred instantly.

Yet, she could hear the pounding of her heart, which had been lodged in her throat, finally descend.

Then.

Su Ziyu practically flew to Li Qianfan’s side.

The slippers on her feet were flung off.

Startling Li Qianfan.

Before he could react—

Su Ziyu raised her left hand, grabbed his collar, and her right fist landed heavily on his shoulder socket.

Li Qianfan staggered from the blow.

Su Ziyu’s voice was hoarse as she cursed, “You bastard, where the hell were you? Do you know how worried I was about you, afraid something happened to you!”

At this moment, hitting him hard was the only way Su Ziyu could vent her complex emotions.

But after she punched Li Qianfan—

She couldn’t control herself and hugged him tightly.

So tightly.

As if she wanted to pull him into her very being, she asked with a sob, “Why did you make me worry about you?”

Li Qianfan stood there, dumbfounded, somewhat at a loss.

Su Ziyu’s emotional outburst was something he had never dreamed of. They had only been married (or known each other) for three days.

Yet, Su Ziyu’s demeanor made him feel as if they had been together for three lifetimes!

“Is this… love?”

As Li Qianfan pondered this, he heard Su Ziyu say softly, “Take your hands off my butt.”

Huh?

Ah!

It’s not my fault; blame this left hand that likes to explore when it sees something good.

Li Qianfan sobered up and hastily raised his hands.

Su Ziyu, catching a glimpse of some building security guards not far away out of the corner of her eye, took a deep breath, roughly pushed Li Qianfan away, opened the car door, and got in.

She couldn’t face anyone.

Her instinctive reaction just now was like a woman who had waited years for her husband to return, finally getting her wish.

It was so embarrassing—

But then she thought, “I’m his wife. Isn’t it normal for a couple to hug, cry, and carry on in the street?”

With that thought, Su Ziyu felt at ease.

She nudged her feet and said to Li Qianfan, who was standing in front of the car, “Shoes.”

Shoes?

Oh, oh, okay.

Li Qianfan understood and quickly ran over, picking up the small slippers from the ground.

“Put them on me.”

As Su Ziyu gave the order, she felt like a queen.

That damned Li Qianfan was her little servant.

When she told him to stay behind, he stayed behind—

Li Qianfan, acting servile, held one of her feet, his hand cupping her heel.

Su Ziyu’s heart suddenly fluttered, but she feigned indifference and snorted, “I told you to put on my shoes, not to play with my feet.”

Did I?

I’ve already put your shoes on, what am I playing with?

What’s so fun about stinky feet—

Li Qianfan gave a sheepish chuckle, and Su Ziyu said, “Let’s go home.”

Li Qianfan quickly replied, “The car’s out of power.”

“Push it. Do I need to teach you?”

Su Ziyu frowned and placed her hands on the steering wheel.

Li Qianfan hurried to the back of the car and began to push.

The advantages of a small car were countless.

At least, pushing it required no effort.

If Su Ziyu could get out and help push, it would be even easier.

Su Ziyu took out her phone and called her mother, “Mom, I found your son-in-law. He reeks of alcohol and perfume. You handle the details. Don’t just beat me up for no reason.”

Before Ning Xiaolan could say anything, Su Ziyu hung up.

Despite her near loss of control earlier, the keen intuition of a woman still made her detect the scent of women’s perfume on Li Qianfan.

Su Ziyu also wore perfume, a light mint scent.

The perfume on Li Qianfan, however, was a cloying sweet fragrance.

This alone spoke volumes.

Li Qianfan pushed the car to the charging station.

After plugging it in to charge, he found Su Ziyu still sitting in the car, looking at him coldly.

It was clear—

She wanted an explanation.

If Li Qianfan, who had been missing for most of the night, couldn’t provide her with a perfect explanation, she wouldn’t be polite!

Li Qianfan, of course, was fully prepared for this.

“Wife, it’s like this.”

Li Qianfan stood by the car window and launched into his story.

After he drove away from Guangming Hospital that afternoon, he went to a famous scenic spot in the western suburbs.

He was so captivated by the beauty of the place that he lost track of time.

When he finally thought about going home, it was already sunset.

He hurried back.

By the time he reached the city, it was completely dark.

He was starving, so he found a small eatery and ordered a couple of dishes.

He figured there wouldn’t be any drunk driving checks, so he boldly had a drink.

After eating his fill, he continued his journey home.

But as his car approached a branded cosmetics store, it ran out of power.

“Late at night, I couldn’t find a charging station, so I decided to push it home.”

“Then it suddenly occurred to me, with you being such a virtuous wife, shouldn’t I, as a husband, give you a gift?”

“So I went into that cosmetics store, and the sales assistant enthusiastically recommended a luxurious perfume for you.”

“To demonstrate, they sprayed some on me so I could smell it myself.”

Li Qianfan took out a bottle of perfume and presented it as a treasure, saying, “Wife, this is for you. I hope you like it.”

This perfume was something he had specifically bought from a cosmetics store after leaving Victoria, precisely to cover up (or explain) the scent left on him by Mo Hongti when she sat in his arms, her body covered in sweat and perfume.

“I don’t want this kind of perfume. It’s too strong, too vulgar.”

Su Ziyu’s face showed disgust, but as she took the perfume, she clutched it tightly.

Inside, she exclaimed with delight, “Finally, a man is willing to give me a gift!”

Alright.

Li Qianfan’s breath smelled of alcohol, and his body carried the scent of perfume – both points were now explained.

So, why had he turned off his phone?

“My phone died in the evening, and I didn’t have my charger with me,” Li Qianfan explained. “When I was eating out and buying you the gift, I paid by card.”

Ning Xiaolan had given him a million-dollar bank card, a fact Su Ziyu was aware of.

“From now on, if your phone dies when you go out, you must find a way to charge it and call me, so I don’t worry about you.”

With these issues clarified, Su Ziyu finally felt relieved.

Li Qianfan quickly nodded in agreement.

Su Ziyu hopped out of the car, “Let’s go home.”

“Oh. Wait.”

Li Qianfan opened the car door and retrieved two boxes from the back.

One box contained two packs of cigarettes.

The other box held a pair of women’s leather shoes.

These were gifts for Old Su and Ning Xiaolan.

“Hmph, at least you’re smart enough.”

Su Ziyu squeezed the perfume in her hand again and said, “Because you didn’t come home and I couldn’t reach you, I thought you’d been kidnapped by Mo Bin again. I’ve already confessed to Mom about my plan to get revenge on you today. When we get home, don’t slip up.”

She paused.

A flicker of trepidation crossed the eyes of the violent woman. “If Mom hits me, you have to help.”

“Okay.”

Li Qianfan nodded. “I’ll help Mom hold you down.”

“You—”

Su Ziyu suddenly turned around. “Come here, hands on your head, and squat down.”

Li Qianfan, of course, refused.

Carrying the two boxes, he bolted.

“Hey, stop!”

Su Ziyu, in her small slippers, chased after him, her footsteps pattering.

The bright moon in the starry sky cast a soft glow, watching the happy young couple.

And also watching—

Dai Paipai, who had just walked out of a certain police station.

After an investigation lasting dozens of hours, the police had finally determined that Dai Paipai had not poisoned her husband, Wang Mingshuai.

“If only I had listened to that young man that afternoon, how good would that have been?”

Dai Paipai, her face haggard, looked up at the moon, tears of regret once again welling in her eyes.

Zhao Lianjin walked over.

Looking at the woman’s beautiful figure, he swallowed hard and said in a low voice, “Sister-in-law, let me take you home.”
