Chapter 436: The Odd "Von" Out?
"P-please marry me, Miss Arius!"
"Absolutely not."
Long after Emilio—who was once Nearlo—had woken up, he had been asking for Lillian’s hand in marriage nonstop, claiming her to be his guardian angel, even when she constantly rejected him.
Fortunately, with the help of Lillian’s element, he had made a rapid recovery from his deathly wounds. However, that only seemed to cement the image that Lillian was truly his guardian angel.
After all, how had he survived situations like the Leviathan and that monster half an hour ago without her help?
The memory of Lillian being the cause of the latter had already vanished from his mind.
This back-and-forth offer and rejection happened for a total of 30 minutes.
And in that time span, they had managed to swiftly rescue Viesta, who had managed to keep herself alive without any injuries whatsoever by keeping herself in the trees.
This fact caused Lillian to smile, as this was also what Viesta had done in the game to survive—and in the exact same spot. It seemed that Fate wasn’t going to try to change up the original story too much to fit her in.
"Even when you know of my family’s reputation? I can give you and your family a much more luxurious life without any problems whatsoever! I ask nothing more than a chance at your affect—"
"Sorry, but as someone who’s already part of an already somewhat wealthy family, I think we’re fine."
Viesta, who was watching the exchange beside Lillian, leaned into the girl’s ear whilst pointing at Emilio:
"H-hey, Lillian... Who is that? I don’t think he looks like someone of this world, especially on an island like this..."
Lillian side-eyed Viesta before twisting herself around and getting a look at Emilio, who looked rather crestfallen due to the constant rejections.
Her eyes then looked over Emilio’s appearance.
Straight black hair that fell just below his brows, vibrant purple eyes that seemed to darken periodically, a sharp jawline, but not enough to appear overly masculine.
If Lillian had to give an answer about what she thought about him at this very moment, she would find that he appeared to be rather adorable in her eyes, especially with his appearance.
’If it wasn’t because he was attacked, I would say he was dressed rather neatly.’
Emilio Von Nightraven, one of the many male characters in this game you could romance, wasn’t THAT bad of a pick if you were to look past his earlier personality.
He also had quite a high chance to become stronger with his Element of Eclipse, which had incredible potential, considering he had a degree of control over both light and darkness.
’Unfortunately... He’s the odd one out of the family...’
When a member was born into a family titled with the noble name, ’Von’, they would always be found to have at least some high amount of talent or at least a decent amount due to genetics.
However, Emilio was born without the usual amount. You could even say he was born with barely any talent, causing him to be the black sheep of the family—a favourite, but still the odd one out.
Thus, he was home-schooled instead of being able to experience the academic life.
’I think he’s around my physical age, as well...’
Lillian turned around and continued to keep an eye out for monsters.
And as she did that, she couldn’t help but recount her current knowledge of the nobility status in the world.
The families that bore the noble name ’Von’ were dukes in this world.
In the past, the title of duke was passed around whenever you were to be related to the royalty of one’s nation by blood.
However, after the most recent war, such a way was discarded and has now been changed to a more achievement-based assigning, which was ranked as Von first, Ker second, Gla third, and Fie last.
The noble name ’Von’ belonged to either royalty or families that achieved near legendary feats during the war.
’A good example would be either the Roselles or Emilio’s family, the Nightravens.’
From a family belonging to the East Nation and one of the Four Underworld Lords, just like the Roselles, the Nightravens played a massive role in the Second Great War.
Cutting off the supply chains of neighbouring countries, acting as inside informants... These were only some of their exploits.
’I think they even went as far as almost killing the entire West Nation’s Royal Family...’
They were even partially in charge of the massive air fleet that invaded the South.
The Nightravens were definitely a prominent family that dealt mostly in information gathering, invasions, and destroying the enemy from within.
These sorts of activities were something a certain bunch of Assassins wouldn’t ever indulge in since it would hurt their inborn pride.
’Compared to the Roselles, I think the Nightravens are a more nicer bunch, I think, in terms of being less hostile...’
Now that she thought about the Roselles... What sort of gift should she get for Marionette the next time they meet?
Flowers from the Trial World?
’Agh... This place is the worst one for something like that...’
The carcass or material of a powerful monster?
’Ah, crap... I forgot to collect some of the Leviathan’s scales for that...’
After ruling out both options, she began to think whether or not she was being too materialistic... Can’t Marionette already get these types of things?
Emilio, who was in deep thought about some kind of pickup line, immediately sat up with a bright smile and turned around, having just come up with one.
But then—
"ARGHH! WHAT DO I DO?!"
—He watched as Lillian yelled into the sky with both of her hands clutching the sides of her head.
Seeing that it was a bad time, he silently put away the pickup line for another time as he faced Viesta, who seemed to be rather upset with how he disguised himself as Nearlo.
Fortunately, the two got along well as they spoke about the rumours of the legendary Nearlo’s exploits, especially one where he battled a massive kraken for an entire day and 2 nights.
Night soon arrived, not because it had been hours, but because it was already late the moment they appeared in the Trial.
After finding their way to a specific location, Lillian decided that they should set up camp.
Once she sent off the Beetle to act as a patrol, she sat near the campfire, which had now been created thanks to Viesta.
Lillian then eavesdropped on Viesta’s worried and stressed conversation with Emilio.
