Watching Jimmy go to the second floor, Grant walked over to Harten.
Grant whispered to Harten, "Harten, didn't you say you were going to borrow a squad of police officers? Why is there only one person? And he's so young."
Harten, "Well, having him here should be enough, if Baka brings more people later, we'll call the county police for backup."
Grant, "Are you sure? Baka has at least four men, and we only have four here too. In case something goes wrong, it would be troublesome."
Harten, "Don't worry, you haven't seen his profile, which is why you're concerned. I've checked with the sheriff, and this guy is tough, AKA the Butcher. You understand what that nickname implies. His biggest accomplishment was a 1V5 situation; one escaped, four were killed."
Grant looked up at the stairs, nodded his head, and continued to prepare the equipment he would need later.
For Jimmy, it felt no different from being in prison right now; he wasn't sure where he was. Earlier, Harten had not allowed him to contact the outside, and although he still had his phone, he didn't want to break the silence and contact anyone just yet.
The case analysis earlier mentioned that Baka brought his men. If there were many, Jimmy would definitely need to contact the chief to arrange for more people to come over. If it was just Baka and his three men, then their firepower should be sufficient. Although he hadn't seen the FBI's shooting skills, Jimmy was confident in his own.
After it got dark, Grant and Randall set off, each carrying a large backpack likely filled with the surveillance equipment they needed. Speaking of which, Jimmy had never seen FBI surveillance equipment; earlier during the meeting downstairs, he couldn't even name or understand the function of the equipment in the room. It might be a good opportunity to learn about it.
Jimmy didn't wait for their news and just went to sleep in his room, treating this support mission as a vacation. It was a vacation where his freedom was restricted; no need to support, study, or clock in. As long as he ensured enough sleep and energy replenishment, he would be ready to move out at any time.
The next day, Jimmy woke up early, at just 4 AM. He got out of bed, checked the time on his watch, and went downstairs. There were only two people on the first floor, Jacob and Grant.
Jimmy, "Hey, haven't you guys gone to rest?"
Grant looked at Jimmy and said, "Well, the two of us are taking shifts for the latter half of the night. Would you like to sleep some more?"
Jimmy, "Well, I've had a few hours of sleep, that's enough. Do you need to rest for a while? I can take over for you."
Grant smiled and shook his head, "No need, it will be dawn soon. Randall will take over then, and I can sleep after that."
Jimmy, "Alright then, I'm going to find something to eat, starving."
Grant, "There's food in the kitchen, help yourself."
Jimmy went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and okay, this was not like home. The refrigerator only had some water in the cool section, while the freezer had a pizza which he had seen yesterday, but since it was still early morning, he decided to settle for instant noodles.
Jimmy took a cup of noodles from a box on the side and boiled water with the kettle for it.
"Hi, Grant, did you guys find anything at Baka's house?" Jimmy chatted with Grant while waiting for the noodles.
Grant shook his head, "No real gains, Baka hasn't arrived yet, and there are no signs of anyone living in that house. Cameras have been installed at the intersection and outside the house. We temporarily can't enter inside; apart from one door, all other doors and windows are locked from the inside. Plus, there's dust on the floor, making it difficult to enter without being noticed from behind."
Jimmy, "How long do we need to wait? Any news from Baka?"
Grant, "Not yet, coordinating with other groups requires Harten."
Jimmy, "I came here too hastily yesterday, I didn't bring anything, do you have any books or something else to pass the time?"
Grant turned and looked at Jacob, "Jacob, did you guys bring any books? Give Jimmy one."
Jacob turned to look at Grant, "Do I look like someone who would bring books? Watch some shows, I have some on my computer."
"My, storing TV shows and movies on the computer, that's a bit against the rules. But for FBI techs, it shouldn't be a big deal, should it?"
Jacob grabbed a laptop nearby, plugged in the headphones, opened a TV show, and handed it to Jimmy.
"Don't mess with anything else on my computer," Jacob instructed before turning back to the equipment in front of him.
Jimmy headed to the kitchen to get some instant noodles, sat next to Jacob with headphones on, eating while watching the show as Jacob focused on the equipment and Grant on the surveillance screen; the three men did not interfere with each other.
In the morning, everyone else had also gotten up, and the first floor started to get lively; Jimmy also stopped his movie-watching moment.
Harten: "Grant, any updates?"
Grant: "No, you take over the surveillance, I'm going to rest."
Harten: "Alright, go ahead."
Harten took Grant's place, looking at the surveillance screens in front of him.
Suddenly, Harten's phone rang.
"This is Harten, go ahead."
"Okay, keep on it."
After hanging up, Harten immediately called Grant and Randall back.
Harten: "Just got information, someone went to Baka's apartment, grabbed a black travel bag, and left. It seems to be one of Baka's men, but not someone we already have a photo of.
The surveillance team has already arranged someone to track him, hoping to find Baka's current hideout. Baka himself hasn't shown up back at the apartment."
Grant, take a rest but be on standby. Randall, go and prepare weapons; if we get news on Baka, we'll be ready to head out immediately."
"OK." Grant didn't go upstairs to rest but instead walked to a couch against the wall in the living room and lay down to rest.
Randall pulled out a large box from the wall, which contained two rifles and several handguns, along with matching magazines and bullets. He then pulled out a slightly smaller box, opened it to reveal FBI-inscribed bullet-proof vests and a few helmets.
Randall checked each item in the two boxes, pulling back the slide on the rifles and handguns to ensure they were not loaded; he also checked each magazine to see if the bullets were properly loaded.
Jimmy watched them each go about their tasks, but he had nothing to do.
"Harten, what about me?"
"Jimmy, just wait for now; we need to confirm Baka's location. If he doesn't come to this safe house, we might need to apprehend him outside, possibly in other places."
While monitoring the surveillance, Harten responded to Jimmy.
Jimmy was Plaskey County police; beyond Plaskey County, he had no jurisdiction. Although the FBI had called him here to assist, it was only locally; out of their range, Jimmy was completely useless.
The FBI had nationwide jurisdiction; for them, wherever a criminal appeared, jurisdiction was not a concern.
