Wei Yumeng watched from the side, stunned. She hadn't expected Zhan Mohan's words to be so sharp, leaving Xin Ran's face as dark as night.
Xin Ran endured it. He wasn't a match for Zhan Mohan, but it wasn't the time to bicker. All that mattered was that Yumeng knew what kind of person Zhan Mohan was.
"Did you see? He accompanied his ex-girlfriend to the hospital for an abortion. Who knows what's going on in his head? What if it's his child?"
Zhan Mohan sat aside, offering no explanation. Instead, he calmly watched Xin Ran with a cold, aloof expression, as if he were merely observing Xin Ran's performance.
Wei Yumeng didn't know what to say either. She genuinely had no idea if Zhan Mohan had actually gone. She dared not make any assumptions.
Her gaze involuntarily drifted to Zhan Mohan, and she raised an eyebrow at him.
"Do you have anything to explain?"
Zhan Mohan shook his head. "No."
Wei Yumeng stood up, seemingly having no intention of listening further.
Xin Ran was utterly bewildered. He hadn't expected Wei Yumeng to disregard the evidence he had painstakingly gathered. This was out of character for her.
Furthermore, didn't Zhan Mohan always believe the child in Wei Yumeng's womb was his? Why were their feelings still so affectionate? This didn't align with reality.
He quickly stood up. "Yumeng..."
She stopped, calmly saying to him, "Xin Ran, I will no longer believe you. From the moment you plotted against me, we ceased to be friends. I am only here to see you today because you said you had something to tell me about Zhan Mohan, and now he is here as well."
"Aren't you afraid they'll rekindle their old flame? What will you do then?"
Xin Ran felt he had considered Wei Yumeng's situation thoroughly. Even though he had a fiancée now, he still thought of her constantly.
If he had known that plotting against her would lead to them becoming strangers, he would never have done such a thing.
But it was too late to say this now.
He simply wanted to get closer to her, nothing more. Yet, it seemed she didn't even want to acknowledge him.
Xin Ran felt deeply hurt.
Wei Yumeng's emotions remained largely unchanged. She simply replied,
"It doesn't matter. Whatever he is, it's my choice. I accept it. I only hope you can genuinely recall that night. Did I really have relations with you?"
Her own feeling was that nothing had happened, but she couldn't be certain, as Xin Ran didn't seem inclined to tell her the truth.
Xin Ran felt utterly dejected, like a frost-bitten eggplant. In the time she hadn't seen him, Wei Yumeng had surpassed his expectations.
He didn't even realize when Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng left.
It wasn't until Wei Yumeng had departed that he finally came back to his senses.
After getting into the car, Wei Yumeng remained silent. Zhan Mohan was somewhat surprised by her composure. She wasn't asking, which he found peculiar.
He didn't start driving immediately. Instead, he turned his head and asked her, "Why aren't you asking if Jiang Siyu's child is mine?"
"If it were yours, would you let her abort it? The elder is eager to have a great-grandchild as soon as possible. Even if you wanted to abort it, he wouldn't agree."
Hearing her calm and rational response, Zhan Mohan found himself looking at her with renewed admiration.
However, setting logic aside, emotionally, he still wished to see Wei Yumeng jealous. This woman was far too rational this time.
He suddenly let out a soft scoff. "I think I prefer seeing you jealous. It's very cute, at least cuter than when you're being so rational."
Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan with a puzzled expression upon hearing this.
"You're kidding me, right? Someone actually wants me to be jealous? That's a bit of a perverted request."
A hint of surprise flashed in Zhan Mohan's deep eyes. "You call me perverted? Hmm, say that again?"
Seeing the increasingly intense glint in his eyes, Wei Yumeng began to feel a little apprehensive. Her intuition told her this look was not exactly friendly.
Moreover, if she uttered something he disliked now, this man might very well not let her off the hook.
She sheepishly smiled, retreating backward.
"I didn't mean that, I didn't mean that."
The man lifted her chin, his eyes slightly raised, his voice captivating.
"Then what did you mean?"
The man's breath was so potent that Wei Yumeng felt her heart pounding in her chest. Her cheeks flushed, and she didn't know what to do.
Wei Yumeng tightly pursed her lips. "I... I didn't mean anything."
"You didn't mean anything? What does that mean? You're so calm now, not a trace of jealousy. Don't you like me anymore?"
Zhan Mohan seemed determined to get to the bottom of it, giving Wei Yumeng no chance to evade.
"No."
Wei Yumeng could only manage two-word answers. Her mind was racing.
"No what? Do you like me, or not?"
Zhan Mohan had already moved away from the driver's seat, his upper body leaning almost entirely over Wei Yumeng. When Wei Yumeng looked up, she could see the handsome lines of his face.
Wei Yumeng clenched her hands, her palms sweating, her expression tense.
"I..."
She wanted to say she liked him, but couldn't bring herself to. Especially under Zhan Mohan's intense gaze, she found it even harder to speak.
Her heart fluttered like a small deer. Sometimes, she couldn't even explain these feelings herself. They hadn't just started dating, so why did she still experience that flutter like a young girl experiencing her first crush?
"If you don't say it, I'll kiss you."
Zhan Mohan lowered himself further, his lips lightly brushing hers.
Wei Yumeng tensed up and blurted out, "I do."
A satisfied smile curved the corners of his eyes, and he kissed her lips again.
"That's a good girl."
Only when he sat back up did Wei Yumeng feel a slight sense of relief. Otherwise, she felt like he would suffocate her.
As they drove towards the apartment, Zhan Mohan proactively explained.
"Regarding Jiang Siyu, it was a misunderstanding, just as you suspected. She had a boyfriend abroad and became pregnant. The man didn't want the child and asked her to abort it. But you know she has no family abroad. I happened to be on a business trip there at the time, so I accompanied her."
Wei Yumeng glanced at Zhan Mohan. "Didn't you and her... you know?"
"You know what?" the man asked with feigned confusion, though a knowing glint was evident in his eyes.
Wei Yumeng felt too embarrassed to say it.
"Never mind, forget I said anything."
"In your eyes, am I someone who would eat anything that comes my way? She had just had an abortion. How could I? Even if she hadn't, I wouldn't have."
He had given her ample reassurance, exceeding her expectations. If it were anyone else, he might not have bothered explaining.
Hearing this, the heavy weight on Wei Yumeng's heart finally lifted. She beamed with a radiant smile.
"Mmm, I know my husband is a good man."
