Catherine still chose to meet Kai. They arranged to meet at a place they had dated before, a place filled with their shared memories.
"You're here," Kai said, looking remarkably calm when he saw Catherine, as if they were merely out for a date.
Catherine, however, did not look as composed. She even looked at Kai with a hint of fear on her face.
"Kai, what exactly do you want from me?"
But Kai didn't answer her question. He simply said, "Do you remember this place? This is where we came after we officially started dating. Back then, I thought we were truly in love, and I was overjoyed. I even made a silent promise that from then on, you would be my only treasure in this world."
He turned to look at Catherine as he spoke. "I even thought about when we would get married, when we would have children, and how I would work hard to give you a happy family."
Hearing this, Catherine's face remained pale. To her, Kai's words were nothing but a list of her sins.
No matter what, she couldn't change the fact that she had deceived this man's feelings.
As if he had read her mind, Kai's tone suddenly changed, becoming sharp and harsh. "It was you, you personally destroyed everything beautiful. You even trampled my love on the ground."
"I'm sorry," Catherine whispered.
Yet, this apology was not heartfelt. She was merely intimidated by Kai's presence.
To this day, she didn't believe there was anything wrong with striving for what she wanted, even if it meant sacrificing some things.
"Linlin, I just want to ask you one thing: did you ever, even for a moment, genuinely like me?"
Kai gazed steadily into Catherine's eyes, needing a sincere answer.
Catherine bit her lower lip, her gaze evasive. She couldn't face Kai directly.
"Kai, I really did like you. It's just that because of what happened between us, I had to make that choice." Catherine still tried to use her affection as an excuse.
But Kai laughed at her words. "I already know your answer, your true answer."
Kai was no longer the fool who would be ensnared by Catherine's carefully crafted deception. With his current perspective, he naturally realized that Catherine had never liked him.
"Linlin, although some things may be cruel to you, I have already experienced that cruelty," Kai said, taking a few steps back, as if bidding Catherine a permanent farewell. "Linlin, I will make you pay the price for everything you've done. This is for my closure, and it's for my love."
Catherine's eyes widened. She knew how close they had been, which meant Kai possessed ample evidence to incriminate her.
"Kai, please, spare me. I'll compensate you for everything I've done wrong."
"Compensation? How do you intend to compensate me now?" Kai asked with a bitter smile. "My heart, the time I wasted in prison, how will you compensate me for that!"
Catherine's plea only made Kai's emotions more volatile.
"When you used me and caused all these consequences, why didn't you consider the outcome? You brought this all upon yourself; you have no one else to blame."
Kai then deliberately showed Catherine something stored on his phone.
"Tell me, if I were to release all this evidence, what do you think would happen?"
"No! No!" Catherine lunged forward to snatch the phone, but she was no match for Kai.
Kai sidestepped slightly, and Catherine missed, falling onto the ground. Yet, she refused to give up, crawling to Kai's legs and clinging to them tightly.
"Kai, please, don't make this public. Please, if this gets out, my life will be ruined. Everything about me will be destroyed."
Kai looked at her coldly. "So what? Didn't you already ruin my life?"
With that, he sent the evidence he held in his hand right in front of Catherine.
One copy was published directly online, and the other he sent to Wei Yumeng.
When Wei Yumeng received an anonymous email, she initially thought it was spam. However, upon opening it, she discovered it contained evidence of Catherine's past misdeeds.
Wu Yi rushed into the office. "Ms. Wei, something big has happened."
"What is it?" Wei Yumeng had not yet had a chance to check the news online.
Wu Yi explained, "All the media outlets have just released new reports containing various accusations and evidence against Miss Catherine. It even states that Mr. Kai was merely taking the fall for Miss Catherine all along."
Wei Yumeng quickly opened the news on her computer. Indeed, these reports were rapidly spreading across various media platforms, sparking unprecedented public discussion.
Wei Yumeng was surprised by Kai's speed and ruthlessness. She had initially thought Kai would confront Catherine, and then she would seize the opportunity to guide Kai into revealing the evidence of Catherine's actions. She never expected him to resort to such an extreme solution.
Wei Yumeng couldn't help but sigh. Perhaps the depth of love in the past now fueled the intensity of hatred. The hatred Kai felt for Catherine was likely beyond the comprehension of outsiders.
Meanwhile, Catherine was forced by Kai to witness her actions being broadcast online, to see the curses hurled at her by netizens.
"No way, is this really that Catherine? I remember supporting her during a certain incident."
"I never imagined a woman could be so wicked. Mr. Kai shouldn't have gone to jail for her; she should repay it all."
"I really owe Wei Yumeng an apology now. I was blinded by that wicked woman Catherine back then and was led astray by her words."
"A woman like this should be sentenced to death. She's useless to the world anyway."
"No... no... this isn't right, this isn't right!" Catherine clutched her head and began to cry. How did things turn out like this? It shouldn't have happened!
Looking at Catherine's current state, Kai could no longer feel any pity for her. He said indifferently, "Now, from this moment on, everything between us is settled."
