Chapter 22 A Trip That Must Be Made

A woman who does not cherish herself!

Since there is someone in your heart, you should not be intimate with other men wantonly, especially to show disrespect to this Seat!

Dongfang Cangwu rose abruptly and waved his sleeve, instantly teleporting Yan Jiaojiao back to her room.

Rong'er was inside and was startled when Yan Jiaojiao appeared in the air above the bed. She looked around and seeing no other anomalies, went to check on her mistress.

Dongfang Cangwu had already broken the dream and dispelled Yan Jiaojiao's charm, and Yan Jiaojiao was now on the verge of waking up from her dream.

Rong'er walked over and nudged her shoulder. Yan Jiaojiao slowly woke up.

"Where is this?"

Yan Jiaojiao felt sore all over, as if she had run a hundred thousand miles. Her body was very weak, and her mind was in a haze. Everything that had happened in the dream was a jumble, leaving no impression of Dongfang Cangwu.

Rong'er's face loomed closer, immediately bringing Yan Jiaojiao back to her senses. She had escaped.

She only remembered being hit by a soporific, and now that she was safely back in her room, it must have been the little black dog's doing again.

"This little black dog runs off without a trace every time it's done," Yan Jiaojiao muttered.

She had even wanted to prepare something delicious to reward the little black dog, as it was truly useful.

It was not in vain that she had gone to such great lengths to summon it.

Rong'er did not hear what Yan Jiaojiao was saying and moved closer: "Eldest Miss, what are you talking about? You were gone for so long and then suddenly appeared. Did the Second Madam trouble you?"

The barrage of questions made Yan Jiaojiao's head spin even more, and she had no idea why she felt so weak.

Rong'er, not getting an answer, said worriedly: "Eldest Miss..."

Yan Jiaojiao immediately raised her hand to cover Rong'er's mouth and commanded: "Be quiet. Go to the front gate and stand guard. Report back if there is any movement, especially from the Second Madam's people."

Rong'er nodded vigorously. As soon as Yan Jiaojiao let go, Rong'er couldn't help but want to ask more questions. Yan Jiaojiao pointed at her from afar, and Rong'er reluctantly retreated from the room.

Yan Jiaojiao immediately reached for the Spirit Recalling Bead in her embrace. Fortunately, it was still safely there.

After carefully placing the Spirit Recalling Bead away, Yan Jiaojiao sat cross-legged and circulated her spiritual energy to examine her body.

As expected, her body was greatly depleted.

Could it be the after-effects of the soporific were too strong?

Yan Jiaojiao wondered, and then slowly absorbed the surrounding spiritual energy to fill the emptiness in her body. She circulated her energy for seven or eight minor heavenly cycles before she gradually recovered.

However, the symptoms of blood loss in her body made her vision blacken for a long while when she stood up.

She pushed open the door and walked out. Rong'er was sitting on a small stool, diligently guarding the courtyard entrance.

For the first time, Yan Jiaojiao carefully observed Rong'er. This loyal little maid was only thirteen years old, but like the original owner, she was thin and small for her age due to long-term neglect.

She had a small, melon-seed shaped face, round apricot eyes, a delicate nose, and a cherry-like mouth. She could be considered a little beauty, but due to her frailty, her complexion was sallow, and her cheeks were sunken.

Seeing her seriously guarding the door, Yan Jiaojiao felt a pang of sympathy.

"Rong'er, go get something to eat," Yan Jiaojiao called out.

As a cultivator, she wouldn't feel hungry after abstaining from food for months, but Rong'er was a normal person who should eat three meals a day.

Rong'er immediately stood up upon hearing her voice and ran to Yan Jiaojiao's side: "Eldest Miss, are you done?"

"Yes, go prepare lunch," Yan Jiaojiao replied with unusual gentleness.

In the past, Yan Jiaojiao had considered herself just a passerby. She had come to the Yan family only to vent her anger and had not paid much attention to Rong'er, treating her casually.

Now, she couldn't bear to be too harsh on Rong'er.

Rong'er smiled, her eyes curving: "I'll go right away, Eldest Miss."

Watching Rong'er's encouraged figure leave, Yan Jiaojiao couldn't help but chuckle.

A moment later, Rong'er entered the room carrying a tray and placed it enthusiastically on the table: "Eldest Miss, we had good luck today. Sister Yu from the kitchen gave us two eggs. I made egg drop soup, which we can have with rice."

Yan Jiaojiao looked down. On the tray was a bowl of plain rice, half of which was burnt. There was also a bowl of pickled vegetables and a bowl of egg soup.

This was good luck?

Yan Jiaojiao was dissatisfied with her first meal in the Yan family.

After searching through the original owner's memories, Yan Jiaojiao realized that leftovers were the norm for this pair.

Yan Jiaojiao became a little angry. Only a fool like the original owner would tolerate such things!

"Let's go out! I'll take you to eat!"

Yan Jiaojiao pushed the tray away and stood up, beckoning Rong'er.

Rong'er was startled. Her first reaction was to look regretfully at the bowl of egg drop soup: "Eldest Miss, aren't you going to eat this? Can we go out?"

Times had changed. Yan Jiaojiao didn't care about that anymore. If she could go out, she would. If she couldn't, she still would.

Yan Jiaojiao led Rong'er towards the main gate of the Yan family. As expected, no one stopped them.

Especially when they passed by Chen Wenyu's courtyard, Mama Chen happened to come out. Her expression upon seeing Yan Jiaojiao was as if she had seen a ghost!

Yan Jiaojiao gave her a strange smile. Mama Chen was so frightened that she fell to the ground, completely losing her dignified demeanor. She never expected Yan Jiaojiao, who had been locked in a dark room by her, to be walking around so brazenly.

When Yan Jiaojiao said "We have plenty of time," from a distance, Mama Chen immediately scrambled back towards the back courtyard.

Rong'er, standing beside her, was confused: "Has Mama Chen been possessed?"

Yan Jiaojiao merely smiled without answering.

The two soon reached the Yan family's entrance. The guards looked at Yan Jiaojiao with some fear and timidly blocked her: "Eldest Miss, the Second Madam previously issued an order that you cannot leave the estate freely."

"Does she have the right to control me?" Yan Jiaojiao sneered. "Move aside!"

The guards dared not, and stood frozen.

Rong'er also secretly tugged at Yan Jiaojiao's sleeve from behind and whispered: "Eldest Miss, Rong'er doesn't want to eat outside."

In her memory, the last time Rong'er had eaten well was on the original owner's birthday last year, and going out for fun had been ages ago.

Yan Jiaojiao naturally understood that Rong'er did not want to make things difficult for her, but she had to go out today.

"I will return shortly. If the Second Madam has any issues, I will take responsibility," Yan Jiaojiao said, then waved her hand and used her spiritual power to sweep the guard aside.

The guard stumbled. When he tried to pursue them, Yan Jiaojiao had already taken Rong'er out of the gate and hurried towards the stairs.

"Eldest Miss..." The guard called out with a bitter voice, then dejectedly slapped his thigh and turned to run back into the courtyard to report to Chen Wenyu.

Rong'er looked back worriedly, but Yan Jiaojiao acted as if she didn't know about the guard's actions. She even untied a horse tethered at the entrance, mounted it, and extended her hand to Rong'er: "Come, I'll take you."
