Chapter 6 The Foolish Talk of a Dreamer

"It's not a big problem. Apply some ice packs. The young master is taking medication for rhinitis, so we won't prescribe any more for now..." the doctor said after an examination.

He saw Old Mrs. Ye holding an egg and frowned. "Don't use hot compresses immediately after a bump; it will accelerate capillary congestion and make the injury worse. You must use cold compresses. Only after 24 hours can you use hot compresses and gentle massage to reduce swelling and bruising. Remember, wait at least 24 hours."

He emphasized the cold compress, making Old Mrs. Ye's face flush with embarrassment. Her cloudy eyes glinted shrewdly at Yu He. How could this wild girl from the mountains possibly understand medical knowledge? It must have been sheer luck! Old Mrs. Ye thought, then shoved the egg fiercely into the maid's hand, saying coldly, "Hurry and get the ice packs." She adopted an attitude of "if I'm not embarrassed, no one else will be."

Ye Zi Zheng, having narrowly escaped further harm, glared at Yu He with tear-filled eyes. Her resentful gaze seemed to say, "Don't think you're helping me. If it weren't for you, would I have to go through this?"

Yu He: "..."

After the family doctor left, Cheng Li Zhu applied ice packs to her son's forehead. She quietly asked Yu He, "He He, how did you know to use cold compresses?"

"The mountain roads were uneven, and I often bumped into things when I was little. Grandma always treated me this way," Yu He said, her eyes downcast. Her voice was soft, but everyone present heard her. They had thought Yu He knew medicine, but it turned out she just lived in the mountains, disdained doctors, and used folk remedies.

"I've wronged you, He He..." Cheng Li Zhu took Yu He's hand. The thought of her daughter always using folk remedies instead of seeing a doctor whenever she was injured made her heart ache. Yu He's thick, long eyelashes obscured her gaze, and she remained silent.

Old Mrs. Ye scoffed, "So, to show off the little folk remedies you learned in the mountains, you pushed your own brother?"

"I didn't push him," Yu He replied calmly.

"Didn't push him? If you didn't push him, how did Zi Zheng end up hitting himself like this? Do you think I'm stupid, or do you think Zi Zheng is stupid?!"

Yu He: "..."

Cheng Li Zhu weakly defended, "Mom, He He really didn't push Zheng Zheng. Zheng Zheng accidentally fell and hit the foot of the bed..."

Old Mrs. Ye shot her a look. "He He, He He, she's your biological daughter, but is Zi Zheng not yours?"

Cheng Li Zhu frowned, "No, Mom, we need to state the facts..."

"What facts? The fact is Zi Zheng is injured, and she's fine! If Zi Zheng's head had been damaged, could she have taken responsibility?!" Old Mrs. Ye interrupted Cheng Li Zhu sternly. "And that room was supposed to be Zi Zheng's study. You privately changed it into a bedroom. Where will Zi Zheng do his homework now? Change it back immediately! Our Zi Zheng is about to start first grade. He'll be a genius like Qi Chen, at least able to rank in the top ten of his grade. He can't be without a study!"

She spoke with pride. Ye Qi Chen, the eldest young master of the Ye family, had been a genius since childhood. By twenty, he had completed his university studies and started his own business abroad. Old Mrs. Ye was most proud of this grandson, but Ye Zi Su was also good. Although she was a fake daughter, she had watched her grow up. She was well-behaved, academically excellent, and most importantly, she had hooked up with the young master of the Gu family, and they were already engaged.

What was the point of Yu He being the biological daughter? Just one of Ye Zi Su's advantages could make this wild girl from the mountains look inferior.

"Then where will He He live?" Cheng Li Zhu looked troubled. "We've already wronged He He in terms of reputation; we can't wrong her materially as well..."

"How have we wronged her?" Old Mrs. Ye asked sarcastically. "The two guest rooms on the first floor, aren't they both better than her mud hut in the mountains? It's good enough to have a place to stay; why be picky!"

Cheng Li Zhu opened her mouth, wanting to say something but stopping herself. Her mother-in-law had always been so overbearing. If it weren't for the fact that she had given birth to two sons for the Ye family and her eldest son was a young and promising genius, her mother-in-law would probably have forced a divorce long ago. She couldn't argue, but the thought of her daughter suffering for seventeen years and then not being welcomed upon her return filled her with guilt.

As she hesitated, Yu He tugged at her. "If you can rank in the top ten, you get a nice room? And a private study?" Yu He looked at Old Mrs. Ye.
