Chapter 454: Restless
I hurt them. Both of them. The two people who are so close to me and doing everything in their power to make sure I’m fine are the people I hurt. If not for my wanting to stop, I’m afraid of what I would have even done with them. This isn’t right, this is not how things should be going. I didn’t mean to hurt any of them. Yet I did. I don’t know how I can possibly make up for it. How can I even look at myself without hating every last part of my being? How can you still talk to me with so much affection in your voice? I’ll never understand.
I sat there listening to what Ai was telling me, and I felt more and more disgusted with my actions. I could have controlled myself better; there would have been a way for me not to hurt them, yet I didn’t stop. From what Ama explained, I might be someone who gets stronger depending on how much blood I consume. Does Ethan know about this fact? If he does, I think I have a very good guess why he has been so adamant about training me. He needs me to get stronger for some reason I don’t know, and that is getting me frustrated. I can’t make too much sense out of this situation.
Ai stood before me, explaining everything with worries in every sentence that came out of her mouth. She is scared I may leave her alone and isolate myself to protect them, and I agree with her. If not for the promise, that would be the first thing I would do. Sigh, I need to find some other way to take care of this situation. Natsumi-san sounds like our best bet now, so we probably need to move in with her, too. I will have a nice, long chat with Ethan.
"So that is everything that happened," she said, grabbing onto my t-shirt. "You promised me, okay? Don’t leave my side."
"I don’t break a pinkie promise," I said, kissing her head. "Now, who is ready for some lunch?"
"Meee!" Ai cheered, and I turned around to get back to cooking. Change of plans, a lot more food for her, and my blood as a desert. She really needs it.
This does explain some of the events that have happened, so I have to be extra careful with my strength with things. Can’t use the same amount of strength for all the tasks; have to be as gentle as possible. How tiresome.
"Ai, can you please bring my phone?" I called out for the half vampire who had herself resting on my back. She really doesn’t like staying away from me for even a bit.
"Is it really necessary? I want to stay close to Kazu-kun," she whined, and I chuckled at the adorable sight.
"If you don’t, I’ll not let you drink my blood after lunch," I said, and her head perked up as she jumped across the kitchen right into the living room, making her way to the bedroom, and just as quickly brought my phone to me.
She stood there proudly holding my phone before my face, and I took it from her hands. She made her way onto my back now, which didn’t really matter much. She felt a lot lighter than I first remembered holding her, so I could do everything I needed to cook our lunch.
"Time for a little snack," Ai said, sticking her fangs right into my neck and started sucking my blood slowly. I let her do as she pleased because she honestly deserved it and way more. I couldn’t count how many times she has saved me.
I continued making the food as Ai took her little snack, and in the meantime, I sent a little message to Natsumi-san. We have to start packing all the stuff too, since we will be moving tomorrow.
Ethan, talk to me.
"What is it, boy?" I heard his voice in my head.
Don’t give me that. You knew all along.
"Yes, I did. You needed to get stronger, so I had to push you past your limit. Can’t do anything if you can’t protect yourself," he explained.
That doesn’t mean you don’t inform me about it. At least give me a warning, damn it. You know what exactly happened to me when I woke up and decided to stay quiet about it. What do you even plan on achieving from this? Dominic can’t be the only reason you will be pushing me so far. I’m sure you even knew what kind of vampire I would be if I converted to. So, tell me, what do you actually want? What is your plan?
"..."
DON’T GO QUITE ON ME NOW!
"I didn’t want to tell you this just yet," he started.
Well, with how you handled it, you have no other choice.
"Sarah will be waking up earlier than expected."
What? How do you even know that?
"She and I hold a close bond, just like how you and your little lover are, but far stronger. Whatever happens to her, I will feel it," he said. "Her strength is being regenerated at a scary speed. I can tell. She will come after you."
...
"Don’t go quite on me, boy. Sigh, this is why I didn’t want to tell you right now," he explained. "Look, you have a lot less time than before, but it’s still not until the start of the next year. You have to grow a lot stronger because when she wakes up from the slumber, she will thirst for me, and you being the only last part of me means she will be after you."
What does she plan to do?
"A lot of things."
That doesn’t narrow anything down.
"She wants a child," he said bluntly. "We tried to conceive so many times, but every one of those attempts couldn’t survive. Either they died in her womb or minutes after it came out. Part of her losing her mind so much that I had to put her in a long rest was this. Once she wakes up, I know she will still want to try more, and she will be much stronger than ever."
Sarah, talk to me.
"My dearest! You finally called for me! Do you have any idea how sad I felt when you didn’t talk to me for such a long time?! I was so sad and lonely without you," she started talking quickly.
What do you want from me?
"Huh? What sort of question is that? I want nothing but you. That has been the reason for my existence. I want nothing but to be with you. Have you all to myself. We can bask in our glory once more once I wake up," she said.
How can you even talk to me?
"What sort of question is that? We could always do that. We are so perfect together, even telepathy was possible for us," she said.
I...this is getting ridiculous.
"What happened?"
This is again, too much for me to take in.
"Kazu-kun, what happened?" I felt a whisper in my ear before someone blew air in it.
Huh?
"HUH?" I ended up raising my voice for a second and jumping back. I turned to see Ai looking at me worried. "W-What’s wrong?"
"What are you thinking, Kazu-kun? You looked worried," she said, and I let out a sigh,h crouching down.
"What do I do, Ai?" I asked her, but she looked even more confused. Right, she doesn’t fully know what I was just doing. I think I have to go meet up with James and Natsumi-san at the VEO today. This is going to be tough.
"Kazu-kun," Ai called out my name softly and got off my back, pulling me against her. She held my face in her hand, making me look up, meeting eyes with her eyes. "You can tell me, you know. What happened? Why are you so worried?"
"I...need to meet James and Natsumi-san today, no matter what," I announced, and she tilted her head in confusion. "Things are going to get changed really quickly. I don’t know how much time exactly we have."
"What happened?" she asked, and I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.
"I had a talk with Ethan. I wanted answers as to why he was doing all this. Thinking about everything that has happened, I would say that there was a good reason why he was doing this. The training, me losing control to drink that much blood in one go, me ripping my bag, and so much more that is going to happen with me. Ethan wanted to prepare me for what is next. He knows what is going to happen, and he is pushing me past my limits, forcing me to drink all this blood and making sure I am ready for what is about to happen," I said and looked at her.
"Kazu-kun, what will happen?" she asked me.
"The lord of the night will awaken sooner than before."
