If disasters, illnesses, and calamities in the mortal realm were destined, then a large-scale death event occurring in a sect with abundant immortal connections, without any forewarning, was far from normal.
Yue Zhiyin stood up. "Has anyone been sent to investigate what's happening?"
The heavenly soldier shook his head. "We sent people to check, but they couldn't figure out what was going on at all. We initially suspected a water quality issue, but all the surrounding lakes were thoroughly examined, and no poison was found."
"Aside from the lake water, there were the other foods, but those were fine too."
"That shouldn't be the case. There haven't been any major disasters in the mortal realm this year," Yue Zhiyin frowned deeply. "Have you checked for any demonic energy?"
"We checked," the heavenly soldier shook his head. "There were no issues. It doesn't seem like the work of Rakshasa Heavenly Venerate."
Qi Yu's expression turned solemn.
"This is strange. If Rakshasa Heavenly Venerate isn't behind it, then who could be pulling the strings? Such a disaster befalling the mortal realm without reason is utterly baffling," Si Qing stood up, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "Your Majesty, perhaps we should send someone to investigate?"
"Indeed, we should investigate," Yue Zhiyin looked at Sui You. "Third Junior Brother, what do you think?"
"I'll go down and take a look," Sui You stood up. "If the situation is truly dire, we'll discuss it then."
"Alright," Yue Zhiyin nodded.
Sui You turned and descended to the mortal realm.
Qi Yu and Si Qing exchanged glances. Curious about the situation in the mortal realm, they stealthily followed Sui You down.
Sui You, walking at the forefront on clouds, had long sensed two furtive figures trailing behind him.
However, he did not expose them, simply continuing forward.
Qi Yu and Si Qing sat huddled on a small cloud, drifting along behind.
As Sui You descended to the eighth heaven, he glanced back out of the corner of his eye.
Seeing this, Qi Yu and Si Qing hastily concealed themselves.
Sui You wore an expression of amusement and helplessness as he silently floated behind the two of them.
Qi Yu and Si Qing looked at each other, then looked ahead. When they realized Sui You had suddenly disappeared, their faces registered shock.
Sui You placed a hand on each of their shoulders from behind, a half-smile on his face. "Oh ho, I was wondering why it felt like someone was tailing me, acting so suspiciously. So it was you two."
Qi Yu put on an innocent expression.
Si Qing covered his face.
Sui You lifted them onto his cloud, arms crossed, and asked, "Looking at you two, you must have snuck up here, right?"
"Heh heh," Qi Yu used an awkward laugh to cover his guilt.
Si Qing sat obediently on the cloud, hugging his knees. "Actually, we didn't sneak up. We came up openly."
Qi Yu nodded. "Yes, yes, it's just that no one stopped us."
Sui You snorted and tapped each of their heads. "No one stopped you because no one saw you. You slipped away when no one was looking, so what is that if not being furtive?"
Qi Yu was momentarily speechless and quickly changed the subject. "Third Senior Brother, let's focus on the main issue. What do you think is happening in the mortal realm? Is the true culprit behind this disaster really not Rakshasa Heavenly Venerate?"
Sui You frowned, his gaze falling upon the inferno below, the sounds of desperate wails echoing everywhere. He gently shook his head.
"Based on the circumstances, I don't think anyone else could be responsible besides Rakshasa Heavenly Venerate, unless it's some demon we're unaware of. But then again... we've descended this far, and we still haven't sensed any demonic energy above the mortal realm. If Rakshasa Heavenly Venerate is truly behind this, it doesn't quite add up."
Qi Yu knitted his brows.
Just then, a desperate cry suddenly erupted from a defending soldier on the city walls below!
Qi Yu looked in the direction of the sound.
He saw the soldier's face pale, his body covered in dark purple markings, clutching his neck and screaming in agony.
Sui You frowned.
The three exchanged glances.
Qi Yu swiftly moved before the soldier, pressing an acupoint with one hand, attempting to draw out the poison with his spiritual energy. To his surprise, the moment the soldier felt Qi Yu's spiritual energy, his eyes turned blood red. Immediately, his fingers transformed into sharp claws, and he roared, lunging at Qi Yu.
